Sorry Andrew. I gets pretty dead in here sometimes and hard to think of new things to post. At least I was trying to point my friend in the right direction regarding Jeff.

Sorry again.

Do you think that based on my friends reaction, Jeff's hurdles are too hard to overcome. Seems like the Perry loons just will never be happy without him fronting Journey. Is Jeff's task unwinnable in the long run?

nope, it's not unwinnable.

Jeff doesn't have the stigma that SA had. He's not "Perry with a perm". He can sing AND he can write. He's got a great range and a huge appetite for singing not only the Perry Classics, which he respects (songs and Perry), but other stuff. Hell, he still loves to Rock!

Nah, Jeff's hurdles are not hard to overcome. Jeff is doing a tremendous job! I am a Perry fan, and I do love Soto in the band too. Sometimes it is hard for people to overcome change in a band. Why, I have no clue. I didn't have a problem with Jeff taking over vocals. In fact, I welcomed it! I am a realist, and I know Perry won't be back fronting Journey.

Your friend just needs to be educated more on Jeff's past and present work is all. And after that education, if your friend thinks Jeff is still a schmuck, that is on him. At least you tried. :D

I love Perry. That is the period of ALL the achievements ! Jeff really is a musician /writer and an energetic performer. I loved the concert! Yet, if we are honest, we would all pay just about anything to see Perry again with Journey. Jeff would be OK with that and or as has said "hand him the mic". Jeff is a fan too, and we all sense it would be maybe once at most. Jeff, see you again !

And there ya go.

JSS is Jeff singing Journey songs. Augeri was someone trying to sound like Perry singing Journey songs. He didn't quite make it.

trying to sing Journey with Perry's voice and range type of singing, will mess up anyone's voice. I used to could sing (not just like him) but similair. It always hurt me afterwards, and I knew how to take care of my voice. It's all in the technique. Some people know how to use what they have, some don't.

IMO Whocares, Augeri never had it, he just tried and strained his voice until he was used up. Bad for him, but he could and should have been honest a long time ago and said he couldn't do it.

not the "American way", ohsherrie. Some people will take money over admitting they can't do something.

From what I've read, it's been more of the "Wigglers" than the "Loons" leading the charge against Jeff.

I'm one of those Perry loons, as you call it.
I have heard Jeff, and, I like his voice.
I also like SA, but, Steve Perry is the one that helped bring them platinum status..'NOUGH SAID.

Slow down there, buddy. Of course Steve Perry played a major roll in the success of the band but does this mean that that was the best line up of the band!? Its kind of like the James Bond Movies. Sir Sean Connery was the best agent, but does this mean that they can make great James Bond movies anymore!? Check out Caino Royale .
Perry , as great as he was, belongs to the glorious past of Journey. Do you think that if he would step in today he could deliver!? And Im not talkin about just singing the classic songs. Im talkin about creating new material and being able to hit those high notes flawlessly again!? I personally doubt that he could do it. Plus I really dont think he could bring that level of energy that the band has needed for so long . Sure it would create a major hype and get tons of fans all excited, but it would all lead to higher expectations that they would fail to live up to. With Jeff in the band 1) we get that energy , we also 2) get the youth and singing power of Mr Soto, not only great singin those classic hits but 3) making it exciting for the new material (writing / singing) and last 4) we have the true perry loons having lower expectations, giving the band the chance to over-deliver and meet and exceed everyone'es expectations.
Even though you may settle with seeing Perry singin old songs live, I want more! I want new songs and I am excited to see the new Journey line up continuing this legacy.
