Poll:What do you want from Steve Perry?

Been reading the debate from Nora's thread and thought about a poll about fans' expectations.
Would be interesting to see which option is the most wanted.

Personally,and I've said this many times,as much as I would be ready to hop in the first plane and fly anywhere to see him on a stage,I have to say that I'm not so sure about SP's willingness to gear up for the rigors of a tour.
So I'd be happy with an album,no tour necessary.That's where my (realistic) vote went to.

What I want...well,that's another story.(1,6 & 7) :lol:

It would wear him out!

I voted for an album without touring also Shania. Something like Street Talk. He could call this one, "Heard On The Street."

I can't vote in your poll, because I could never choose one of the options you've listed. MY ideal scenario would definitely involve a new album and limited touring, but I would want rockers and ballads. An 'anthem' song like DSB, a ballad along the lines of Faithfully, or even a rocker like SIL. He can sing it all!! I long for the time when I can sit (well, stand, or even FLOAT might be a more appropriate term) in the audience and see him on stage.

Also, 8 should be stricken from the poll because to reuinite, Journey would have to be broken up and I also have the impression that JSS isn't going away anytime soon.

I voted for: nothing, I'm enjoying what he's done in the past.

I am a new fan of SP and Journey in general, and I don't think it's fair to expect someone to do something forever. I think music is ART and the artist should feel compelled to create the art... not compelled because the fans demand it or the bills need to be paid. I understand that some people perform because bills need to be paid or some are dedicated to the fan base... but if SP has enough money and is happy in retirement, then that's fine. I am enjoying COMPLETELY the body of work he left behind and I expect nothing more from the man. He doesn't owe anyone anything. He owes it to himself to be happy, and if he would be unhappy with whatever he'd produce at this stage of the game, then I get that.

Plus, I agree with JoePa... JSS is the new Journey, and there is a fanbase for that. Me included!

It would have to be more than broken up,but I typed it out for the ones who are still thinking about that option I guess..

Btw,I don't this HOTS is afraid,just pragmatic.That's what made me vote #4 too.

I voted for new album no tour as I know that would be impossible for him since is is getting into my age group and things like that are impossible at our age! I know he can still sing the way we like him to sound but just not good enough for himself..Maybe some day SOON he will listen to his fans and realize that we want to hear his voice not matter in what range he sings in now. Hope someone will pass tlhis information along to him.

Slightly OT, but how is it that the prevailing wisdom says that SP won't record or tour because his voice is not as perfect as it once was? Is that speculation, or has he said that's why he retired?

I voted for option 3. A mellow album in the vein of "It's Just The Rain" and "TBF" performed live in a low-key way seems the most dignified and appropriate way to do it. He is 58, after all.

Yes I know Dio, Plant and Rodgers are still strutting around and they're in their 60s - but somehow I'm not sure it would suit the Voice.

Anyway...this is all just wishful thinking I'm sure....after a decade of silence I can't believe any longer that he'll be making a comeback.

Our excuse I guess, is that we all just miss The Voice and long for some music from him.

I've got to the point where I can happily accept Perry's decision to withdraw from public life. And it seems that he has finally found contentment in his life. But looking over his career it is sad that he has only released two albums in twenty years - and that psychological problems may well have stopped him fulfilling his artistic potential.

Still..no complaints about his work between 1978 and 1986. And maybe that's more than enough achievement for one career.

Heck, I chose the new rock album and major tour! I would love to hear Steve sing some really great hard rock (with a couple of ballads thrown in). I think Street Talk was too pop, and FTLOSM was too mellow.

If I had the choice, I'd take a full scale reunion. I've said it before but I think it's worth repeating. You get Bon Jovi and Journey to be co-headliners. They take turns closing. The hugeness of this twin bill would allow gigantic ticket prices and monstrous stadiums, resulting in less dates. You criss-cross the country, playing 30-40 shows in 3-4 months. Everyone gets paid handsomely, these "older" singers get plenty of rest and the rock world has one of the greatest tours of the last 25 years. Not going to happen, but you DID ask me what I wanted. :lol:

).....stand in one night at a House of Blues (with Frontiers, perhaps :shock:

) or another artist and sing one of the Journey songs. See what it feels like, see how he thinks he sounds and realize if you DON'T like what you hear, you have NO commitment hanging over your head. And if he DOES like the feeling again and what he hears, do it a bit more often and explore a comeback in some capacity. Just try something zany like that. Neal has been famous for popping in and doing shit like that, and it's one thing I absolutely love about him.

I chose the same option cuz I think that is the absolute most we could hope for from him. Maybe a few shows. I think that would satisfy a lot of people.

I went for 10, simply because the voice ain't the voice anymore. For sure he could come back with a Crooners album and milk it but I've always thought he did the right thing, left us wanting more, he bailed out on the top, perhaps an album too many but how the fuck can this guy ever produce another Houston, he can't, it's as simple as that (thanks Huey). I have him captured on disk sounding absolutely fuckin' magical, the best there ever was...I don't want him back 75% capacity of what he was..what's the point :roll:

Mind you what I would like,is him to move to Scotland and get a regular Friday spot in the local pub, everyone sounds fantastic when you're pissed! I'd kit him out in that yellow T and if push came to shove I'd even make arrangements with the pub to let him bring the pussy along :wink:

Strung, calm down, how the fuck would a show that had Journey and Bon 'we had funny hair' Jovi flying from stage on strings with explosions be cool. Imagine Schon flying through the air with Jovi on that track, he'd have a cardiac. Joan's got excited for nothin' here, he's dreaming as per usual :roll:
