One LOADED question

Postby montyollie » Thu Apr 05, 2007 10:35 pm

Here we go. One loaded question.

What's the greatest Rock song of all time.

Pick only one. NO do-overs.

***

Mine is "Don't Tell Me What Love Can Do" by Van Halen.

This question is so obvious. There will be no argument that Cannibal Corpse "Submerged in Boiling Flesh" is the greatest rock song of all time. You can now lock this thread.

Submerged in Boiling Flesh
by Cannibal Corpse

Dangling above a vat of putrid muck
A rancid stench of foul decay never encountered before
Screaming in horror for I now remember my fate
I will be Submerged In Boiling Flesh
This cauldron will soon take my life

Upside down my mind is warping
Cannot break free
From teh shackles
Bloodied chains cut circulation
Losing reason
Gag and vomit

Blisters are forming all over my body now
Oozing with pus as they start to explode, fervent finality
The fumes and the vapors have perforated my lungs
Writhing and twitching from maddening pin
Why must i die like this?

Insanity not far away
Mental breakdown
Scathing havoc
Pray for death to come and get me
Inner anguish
Begins

Fear
Recieved
Relentless
Malignancy

Near the end is what I'm sensing
Must acccept it
Can't accept it
Last attempts to stop this nightmare
Cannot be done
I will be dead

Gone
Berzerk
While waiting
My life will boil

To struggle is useless

(Solo: Rob Barrett)

Plunge
Fatal
Paradise
Of the obscene

(Solo: Pat O'Brien)

Enter the tank
It doesn't take long
Epidermis dissolved
All that's left are my bones
It's a matter of seconds when defleshed in flesh
My body now part of sick mire
This chamber of liguefied humans that I have amassed is completed because i was last in line

Way too hard to pick one.

I hear The Who's Won't Get Fooled Again mentioned a lot in cunjunction with the title which is fine, but I'M not feeling that one.

That's on the short list.

I nominate Layla. Believe it or not, I would also nominate Born to Run.

I don't know why, but the first one that came to mind for me was Aerosmith's -Sweet Emotion.

Sooo many good choices...here's a couple that come to mind.

Walk This Way - Aerosmith
Back In Black - AC/DC
Rock And Roll - Led Zeppelin

I can't choose just one!

As overplayed as it is, "Stairway to Heaven". Not my favorite but perhaps the best.

Just one???

I'll have to go with Under Pressure (Queen & Bowie, of course). Still a powerful song, even after being played-to-death.

My personal favorite is "Lights" - Journey

As for the greatest of all times,it's a tie between 5:

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones
Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple
Hotel California - The Eagles
Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf

All these are anthem-like songs, instantly recognizable, worlwide famous and time had no effect on them.
Hard to pick just one.

Could you please repeat that again Shania? I missed it the first time!

Smoke On The Water is a classic when it comes to the riffs and is probably the first song most guitar players learned to play :)

Lol, that's what I'm talkin' about. (but don't you mean mind bottling? lol)

A little OT: Does anyone else differentiate a little between “Best IN Rock,” and “Best Rock ____” ?
i.e. I think the best voices IN rock music are Steve Perry and Freddy Mercury. But I think the best Rock voices are people like Steven Tyler, Chris Robinson, Roger Daltrey, Bon Scott, Chrissie Hynde …

lol not sure if that makes sense… :P
