ROR:to dig or not to dig

Shit, the Easter Bunny can wait, this is Journey we're talking about!
Just for the record,Deano.I said HALF of the fanbase likes ROR,not 80%.That procent was in reference to the content of the album.
Also this Poll will not reflect the fanbase's opinion, but the MRers residents.
So will it be 50-50 here,or not?I'm really curious.
No cheating please.Just one vote per member.

It's got it's moments. That doesn't mean I love it or hate it. There's stuff on Generations and TBF, that I dislike more than some stuff on ROR.
Hell, at least they put something out at the time.

What the fuck is this?
My argument was that it would not finish in the top 1/3rd or 30% of all Journey albums. hell I will say from 77- 86 + 96, that ROR finishes either last or next to TBF.
If you say ROR is better than Escape, Frontiers, Infinity or Departure, you are either on acid, a Euro(Matthew), or a fag.
This is fucked up Laura.

I like the songs on ROR but it sounds to me like they were trying to follow the trends of the time by having keyboards and synths play such a prominent role in the sound. Foreigner did that as well on their late 80's albums.
Bottom line though, I think the songs themselves are good and I like'em.

This "poll" is NOT a poll. It is a question.
Fuck, I have to do everything here if it is to be right.

Ditto here.. I like em too.
Not better than the albums Dean mentioned, but enough to be listened to every now and then.

BGTY is the best of ROR and one of the best of Journey. I listen to IBAWY only now and only live because Jeff sings it and Ross plays.
I have no idea what the heck the rest of the album was about. I did go to ROR tour in Houston 86. but I pouted the whole time.
and Ross' absence is intolerable for me. I have it but I wont listen to it. It is not in my iPod.
If there are to be reissues with Jeff singing Journey, first and foremost is ROR, mainly to get Ross on it.
yea, I'm cranky about it. bash me I dont care, but I won't trade punches. i'm set in stone.

Huge Perry fan here and when ROR came out my first thought was=this is a total sell out by them, didn't like it at all. Now I can tolerate a few of the tunes of course after hearing them for years they become associated with certain memories and such. I hated the album cover and the name too.

Styx did it with Cornerstone, that's another limp dick excuse for an album

It defnitely did have that "mid-80s" synth-sound. There are songs I really love on there and others, if I never heard them again, it'd be ok.

In all arguments and haste my vote goes as
love for this album, yes I had it on vinyl.
Every song is playable, that gets a passing grade
on my score card.
The title track is one of my faves and made
calling out the past in song a popular theme to be
upheld by many others after them.
I'm sure they weren't the first to use this direction
but damn, they sure slayed me with it!

ROR is one of their greatst, imo.
Different name, different art cover and different but still Journey. IBAWY is on the radio often.
"All I wanted was to hooooollllllllLLlllllllllllllld you,"
Now, sing me a line of how you feel when you look in the mirror in the morning, Deano.

Well I've heard BGTY and IBAWY on the radio in my area. ROR has always been one of my top favorites as well as TBF too.

The album, like TBF, is end to end, a small handful of good to great songs....but mostly poulated with just about the worst Journey has ever offered (save for Dead13)...

No you haven't. You have not heard BGTY on the radio in 10 years. It simply is a lie you are telling.

I voted i like most of it - except for a couple of tracks
Now besides the music, my biggest gripe - what in the hell were they thinking of with those frigging perms?????
Lora, couldn't you stop them - shave their heads or something???
I am a major major Perry fan, however, I hated that Farrah Fawcet look ---- still loved him to death - just wished he wore a hat or something.

LOL, must have gotten the perm between filming videos. I love the feathered look of GCHI but not as keen on the puffy permed look of IBAWY.

Perry was solely responsible for Gayin up the other two in ROR era. Wear a hat? Fuck all Hell, wghat was up with the thin ties and hair smocks that friga wore?
Perry gets all the blame for this derailment.
Dude, did Espee tell Randy NOT to suck in his boiler, wear Craps pants, a pink polka dotted axe and did he tell Michael Baird to look like he came from working at Gay Chevron Gas station, complete with a pink lid and bright stars of glitter sprinkled all over him?
