A - Freaking men! Yes, Imus said something totally rude and offensive, but he's been doing it for decades. What this has been "shock jock" says should be meaningless. i don't think I have ever seen anything get so blown out of proportion. The black community has much bigger problems than Imus and as the author of this piece pointed out, the "Revs" don't seem to be motivated to do anything to really help "their people".

Interesting article. And I agree with him too.

Jason was on Daily News Live yesterday on Comcast Sportsnet Phila. He is a total class act with a completely objective comprehension of the societal ills affecting the African American community and speaks his case quite eloquently. Most black activists hate him, or at the very least vilify him behind his back while smiling to his face. He should be admired by all races.

Yeah, because he sees right through them.

great and very precise article.

More "African Americans" (what a fucked up term) should take note.

I totally agree with this man.
The thing that no one has said, except Barb, is that this was an attack against women..
Somehow, these so-called MEN OF GOD have made it a racial pile of sh*t! :(
Thank you, NIG, for posting this!
I passed it on to some friends, and I emailed the writer...

Imus is a shock jock and has been saying this shit for 40 years, so why all the uproar now? Because CBS has followed the bling after all the big contributors bailed out..follow the money.

And all the while, the rappers continue with their trash talk about women, much worse than anything Imus had to say. Do you see Sharpton or Jackson calling their lyrics racist? Of course not!

I watched Cavuto last night, and he had a rapper on his show.
The name doesn't come to me, but, his lyrics are to say the least, HORRID.
He explained to Cavuto that his lyrics were different than what IMUS said.
His lyrics were.....get this....ART?!!!!

Amazing report, I actually emailed this guy & heralded his words....THIS is the future of civil resititution as far as I can see, but the way all of this was handled proves we won't see it in our lifetime, maybe longer!

"It’s embarrassing. Dave Chappelle was offered $50 million to make racially insensitive jokes about black and white people on TV. He was hailed as a genius. Black comedians routinely crack jokes about white and black people, and we all laugh out loud.

I’m no Don Imus apologist. He and his tiny companion Mike Lupica blasted me after I fell out with ESPN. Imus is a hack.

But, in my view, he didn’t do anything outside the norm for shock jocks and comedians. He also offered an apology. That should’ve been the end of this whole affair. Instead, it’s only the beginning. It’s an opportunity for Stringer, Jackson and Sharpton to step on victim platforms and elevate themselves and their agenda$."

Soooooooo very true :!:

This writer hit the nail on the head. Where are all the Jacksons and Sharptons in this world when all of this shit is happening to young black persons? That is where they should expend their energy in changing, instead of getting their ass all bent out of shape for a remark. Jackson and Sharpton are Nappy Headed Media Ho's.

If his words are so powerful and so destructive and must be rebuked so forcefully, then what should we do about the idiot rappers on BET, MTV and every black-owned radio station in the country who use words much more powerful and much more destructive?

Amen!

Some thoughts from Snoop.

"It's a completely different scenario. (Rappers) are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We're talking about hoes that's in the 'hood that ain't doing shit, that's trying to get a nigga for his money. These are two separate things. First of all, we ain't no old-ass white men that sit up on MSNBC going hard on black girls. We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel. I will not let them muthafuckas say we are in the same league as him. Kick him off the air forever."

I wish I could say you were wrong Jeff. Both sides of the issue are going to milk the "limelight time" of it for all it's worth for a long time to come. They don't really care about the people who are suffering. They only care about the "limelight time".

Thank you NIG for bringing that article here. I saw an interview with a black radio personality on GMA today who said much the same thing.

hey nutz4neal, how about shrinking that AV a bit so it doesn't mess up the whole screen.

Very interesting article. It really summed up what I've been thinking. Imus was offensive, but as others have said, he's been doing that for years. The cancellation, etc. was too extreme. To the chagrin of the people who wish him ill, Imus will probably get picked up by XM/Sirius (whatever they'll be called once they merge), and be making even more money than he is now.

Great article. I have heard callers this week to many radio stations and most blacks say Jesse & Al wanabe do NOT speak for them. Maybe this will be the Waterloo for both of those rich Revs. I also think that CBS & MSNBC are heavily involved in the music industry and profit from the gansta rap and anti woman trash. CBS also polutes with owning Viacom MTV and VH1 which used to be about music and now is low level porn. Let those networks know they are more guilty than Imus. I rarely listened to Imus, but this is about more than him & his goofiness.

it's more than a lot of things; particularily more than the racist and sexist comments from black and white people. it's more than just the words that imus used and the way he used them and it's more than rappers using them in their songs to denigerate black women and women in general. it's more than mammy and it's more than rev sharpton, mlk and jackson. it's more than heartfelt stories of mammies comforting little white children or a govenor being run off the road by a man in a cadillac or nappy headed hos. it's not peckawoods, or a literate black men. no single word or words can explain and you won't find the answer trying to compare it to a little white old lady being mugged by a black man. not one person black or white or of any race or enthicity has put it into words what has happened where people can understand without having to defend their race or vilify jackson or sharpton or young bright educated articulate black and white girls. he doesn't write for all black people nor does imus speak for all white people. and jesse and al don't speak for them either. but i do know that it was as wrong as ludscris' and snoops songs deplicting black women as hos..it's as wrong as michael richards spouting off at the mouth and it's as wrong as jackson and sharpton being ambulance chasers and serving as speakers of the black community. it's just wrong. if this writer answers questions you have and it serves you well then use it but i don't think he or al or jesse do not speak for all.

Thank you, Don Imus. You extended Black History Month to April, and we can once again wallow in victimhood, protest like it’s 1965 and delude ourselves into believing that fixing your hatred is more necessary than eradicating our self-hatred.

The bigots win again.

While we’re fixated on a bad joke cracked by an irrelevant, bad shock jock, I’m sure at least one of the marvelous young women on the Rutgers basketball team is somewhere snapping her fingers to the beat of 50 Cent’s or Snoop Dogg’s or Young Jeezy’s latest ode glorifying nappy-headed pimps and hos.

I ain’t saying Jesse, Al and Vivian are gold-diggas, but they don’t have the heart to mount a legitimate campaign against the real black-folk killas.

It is us. At this time, we are our own worst enemies. We have allowed our youths to buy into a culture (hip hop) that has been perverted, corrupted and overtaken by prison culture. The music, attitude and behavior expressed in this culture is anti-black, anti-education, demeaning, self-destructive, pro-drug dealing and violent.

Rather than confront this heinous enemy from within, we sit back and wait for someone like Imus to have a slip of the tongue and make the mistake of repeating the things we say about ourselves.

I'm sorry- but I think this "passage" says it all.

We've been having discussions about this all week at work. And those of "Color" have basically said the same.

The "blacks" in this society won't get "out from under this curse" until they let go of it. The same as the Irish. Or the Jews. Or any other group of people that have be singled out for "persicution" by another.

hell - I could go on. But I've had one too many tonight- so I won't

Everyone at work are calling each other nappy headed ho's every five minutes now. Mountain out of a molehill. If there is one person on that team that has though that its no big deal and that they dont even care about what Imus said do you think that we will ever hear about it ? Nope. That wouldnt be news now would it ?

Rutgers wouldn't have said a fucking thing if they had won that game.

I mean honestly for the Rutgers girls to say he "pemanently(yeah I know I didn't spell it right for all you English teachers here) scarred them" is about as stupid as anything I've ever heard. If his words scarred you that bad you may as well go jump off a cliff because you will never survive in our society where much much worse things are said and done everyday.

I also read where another radio personality was fired for saying the same thing -- having people call in and say "Im a nappy headed-ho" to win free stuff. He got canned!

Thanks for the link NIG.Very good article, it says it all. My daughter listens to that shit when im not around to catch it.After hearing some of that trash, i think somebody owes Imus an apology for being the whipping boy. What he said was nothing compared to some off the stuff I ve heard. Id like to see the guy who wrote the article go on Al Sharptons show. You ll never see that happen
