Any one else besides me see a HUGEproblem with the fact that all over the news is the face and video tape of the kid who did all the shooting but not any where near that many pictures of the victims? Personally I think the media should have shown that tape maybe once and thats' it. Why glorify what this kid did to other people who are right on the edge? And don't hand me this BS about we want to find out what made him snap so that maybe we can prevent anything like this from ever happening again. There has NEVERbeen any report of a mass murder being prevented because we "understand" what caused this person to snap. They get caught ahead of time because someone got wind of the plan and let the authorities know about it. Knowing what went through this kids mind means dick as far as preventing this type of incident in the future. If someone really wants to do this, no one will ever know about it until it happens. Sure he exhibited "signs" that he was weird. Big fucking deal we're all weird to a certain degree. Does that mean we're all mass murderers? NO! And I am quite sure, almost without question that the parents of the dead and injured could give a shit less why he did this. All they know is either the just lost a child or almost lost a child and that is all that SHOULDmatter at this point.
The media needs to just let this asshole burn in hell and focus on the many great heroic stories that occurred on Monday. The Israeli professor that survived the holocaust and died saving those kids as an example.
Sorry for the ranting like an idiot but I just don't see any value in portraying this jagoff as anything more than some fucked up kid the killed a lot of people. I don't care what made him that way because it will NOT bring back anybody he shot and killed on Monday.

They shouldnt have made the video public. If the familes wanted to see it, then they should have been allowed, but airing this video is giving that loser piece of shit murderer exactly what he wanted.

I agree. He sent the tape to them so they would put his name on TV and they are doing exactly what he wanted them to. I think it's a shame.

Exactly my point. All NBC did was show any other loser that is planning this kind of thing that he or she will also get all the attention they want if they send in a taped confession that shows just how fucked up they are.

I agree. A few families of the victims were supposed to appear on one of the morning shows this morning, but cancelled because of that. I watched it last night and got chills.

It was dreadful.
Just seen it on the news here.
He planned it then. Obviously didn't just 'snap' one day - it was premeditated.
OMG. It was bad enough, but that makes it worse. His facial expression was so hard and ruthless.
Unpleasant viewing.

Unpleasant yes. Unnecessary viewing is more like the answer.
And "snapping" doesn't necessarily mean a spur of the moment thing. He may have snapped weeks before and for whatever reason could not let go of the rage.

True. I had assumed that something had happened that morning to make him act, you know to trigger him off. [Sorry that sounds like a play on words, but I didn't mean it like that. But I can't think of another phrase.]
He had obviously snapped a while ago and his hatred has been festering. They could have put that message across to us without showing the video, I agree.
The news reporting these days seems to be going the way of showing us everything. And rolling it out over & over.
I agree that we need to know what's going on in the world, but as you said, did we really need to watch that video?
I'd say not. And I suspect the families of his innocent victims may agree with us.

People are looking for anwers on many levels.
No finding a reason will not bring back any of these victims or lessen the heartache of their families and loved ones.
However, recognizing a commonality in the perpetrators might help throw some light on what "happened". it is now being reported that Cho was bullied a lot in school and physically pushed around and sometimes pushed down and told to "Go Back to China" because he did not speak English plainly.
No that does not give him the right to do what he did - however, if we cannot stop the bullying, perhaps being able to spot people that cannot handle being bullied will help to identify potential heartbreak.
I agree that the tapes and pics should not have been public. Even tho in general the immediate reaction is outrage, as others sit and view it again, as some sit and view it repeatedly, their outrage lessens and again the level of acceptance is raised.
Just a thought.

What NBC did was completely wrong.

All that footage not only offended the families of the victims and all the people in mourning, but also accomplished the killer's mission big time.
His sick idea of being an example to the generations of weak kids like him

wasn't something to be broadcasted all over the world.
There are lots of disturbed teenagers like he was and God forbid one of them will wake up one day with the same ideas.
I truly condemn the media for this foolish move.I can agree that the videos and the pics had breaking news value, but broadcasting it over and over again is just as disturbing as the footage itself.
I agree with you Chf3...The entire media should have focused on the victims, their families and their stories.
That bastard needs to be erased from the public view as soon as possible.

Oh, dear god! Here we go. He was bullied, his daddy didn't hug him enough. What fucking difference does it make. Everyone at some point in their live got bullied. But unlike this douche, we didn't all kill people because of it. And as for daddy not hugging him enough, maybe daddy could have done us all a favor and spared everyone this tragedy by either pulling out or when he realized what an asshole this kid was, beating him to a pulp with a wok.

Cat - I think his problems went far, far deeper than that. He had reached chronic stage mental illness.
I read today that had he received an order for mandatory psychiatric help back in 2005 he would have failed the background check when he bought the guns.
Anyway, at least NBC allowed the FBI time to look at the tapes. But I agree that showing them to the public is about generating ratings and little else.

Exactly Matthew - that is what I am saying....... we need to recognize and act on red flags - chronic stage mental illness would be one - that is why we need to look at the perpetrators of these types of crimes and identify commanlities - just analyze every clue so maybe, heaven forbid there is a next time, perhaps someone will see something as a warning and take it seriously.
We have become a society that has become afraid of saying "No"
No you can't take weapons to class
No you can't kill other students
No we will not hide your actions from your parents.
As you said, he received an order for mandatory psychiatric help in 2005.
An order???? A piece of paper - for crap sake he was obviously in trouble then, however, everyone is so damn afraid of litigation that no one even bothered to take him by the hand to that psychiatric help - and call his parents and advise them.
And please, I am not defending him or taking his side.
And I am certainly not forgetting the victims, their families and loved ones.
I just don't want to see it again. Until we start paying attention outside our own safe little worlds, in my opinion, it will.
And we will all mourn again and light more candles.

Fuck NBC and that piece of shit for what they did. Gee, wonder why there are all these copycat threats in the last few days.
That picture of him with the 2 guns just pisses me off. It's like he's saying fuck you from the grave. Please, no more air time for this retard.

When they showed that one picture of him pointing the gun directly at the camera, the reporter said something like, "This is probably what his victims saw."
I shook my head and thought, did he just say what I thought he said? I couldn't believe it. Talk about cold and heartless.

NBC is probably the worst of the major television media outlets, in my opinion. Besides that, I don't fault them for running portions of the video but I would like to see it kept to a minimum. There's no reason for continuous coverage of it.

There have been copycat threats at schools in several states today - many schools in lockdown. A bomb threat somewhere, suspicious package at some school. One person has made threats to make the VT shootings look tame. I haven't paid too much attention to the specific locations but just check the media outlets - they are reporting these instances.
This is what mass media causes sometimes. Before TV, the internet, even radio - quite obviously news just didn't get out so fast and sick people couldn't find other disturbed individuals to emulate.
Mass media does more good than bad (storm warnings, product recalls), but sometimes the lose site of the responsibility they carry. Focusing too much on tragedies like VT probably isn't the right thing to do. Report on it, let it go. Then it becomes a matter for the involved family and friends.

Many people in charge missed signs of trouble. The networks have been disgusting since the 80's. Now a days the news is not journalism, but slanted propaganda. Hey, Dan Rather you got yours. Everytime something like Anna Nicole ,O.J. Columbine etc happens they act like lemmings and cover it 24/7 when 15 mins an hour would suffice. I will make an exception to 911 because the country needed to be on alert.

There has been a situation all day in my bi-county area. Some nut is threatening to do a shooting spree. All schools are on lockdown, and all after school activities, such as little league, have been cancelled in three counties. It was the first time I saw my area on CNN. Usually, not much happens here.

Exactly Cat! Handing a piece a paper to someone who was a VERY disturbed individual would not make a person seek professional health. Some one like this would NOT even recognize they had a mental illness. They believe they are not the problem, it is everyone else who has the problem in their mind.
Plus the fact that he is an adult. Legally no one can make an adult person get help (Before the crime is committed) he would need to be to taken to court to get him declared mentally imcompetent and prove he is an endangerment to himself and others , and that he is unable to make medical decisions for himself.
I think we have to be able to have "new laws in place" that when a person is "highly suspected" of showing signs of mental illnesss, and severe emotional troubles that aurthorities can be allowed to step in, and make the person recieve the care they need, so these kinds of horrible tragedies can be prevented from happening.

They can talk about the warning signs, etc, without even mentioning this murderer's name. (& it’s ridiculous how little we learn or change, time after time.)
It is completely obscene how much coverage this nutcase has gotten. They need to STOP showing his picture, and STOP mentioning his name!!!!
Not only are they giving him what he wanted, they’re making him a hero to sick fucks everywhere. The media really are whores, no matter the consequences.
Even BBC showed the pictures while reporting on how upset the families are about showing the pictures! It's ludicrous!
Sorry for the rant, this whole thing upsets me beyond words, really.

Prime example of what the glorification and constant media attention of these assholes gets you...
More glory-seeking assholes!
It's like sports.
All these Dallas and Philly fans complain about TO...
TO isn't the problem
Every swingin' dick with a microphone and camera giving TO a stage to
talk his trash are the problems.
Take away the attention, the problem gets limitted.

Agreed 110 % - My wife was saying initially they shouldn't have even released the guys name. Until these folks realize that there'll be no "glory " in it for the, I'm afraid there will be some who will continue this type of thing in order to go down in history.
BTW_ Did you notice how he namedchecked the Colombine guys as "martyrs" in his rant? Sad, sad shit...
