Today being Earth Day, everyone should plant a tree.
"We" and "they" no longer exist. This planet is just us. The destruction of one area is the destruction of yourself. That is the new reality___________Dalai Lama
Happy Earth Day everyone, regardless of what you believe.

The republicans will have you thinking that if you embrace Earth Day, you are nothing but a tree hugging liberal....as if caring about the environment in which we live is idiotic. Al Gore has been proven right, by scientists, and yet the republicans STILL think there is NO problem.
I am all for Earth Day. However, Earth Day should be practiced year round. Kudos to San Francisco for banning plastic bags. Los Angeles is sure to follow.

Uh deano, since you went all political about this. You should know that Nixon (albeit a scumbag in other areas) was the one who created the EPA, and he was a (R). Created in 1970 with the purpose of preserving and protecting our environment.
So before we start name calling parties it would probably be good to look at the history. I guess what I'm getting at is if you follow this back to when earth day first was recognized you have Nixon to thank for it.
epa.gov/earthday/history if you want to look for yourselves.
And for the record, I've stated more than once that I don't care for either party. I'd rather have people that speak the truth than just spewing their party line garbage of hate about the other party.

My friend at work is a republican, and we were having this discussion, and he just flat out said 'Screw the environment'. I was stunned. Some republicans are in the world for nobody but themselves. Very selfish people. Not all, but some. Democrats are more environment friendly. We want to have something left for our kids and their kids. Great thread HOTS.

i don't think it's fair to lump a group of people together. not all republicans are the same & not all democrats are the same. my hubby's a republican and he's a freak when it comes to the environment. so someone who happens to be a rep says they don't care about the environment... that shouldn't reflect on the whole republican party. that person is just an ass... and there are many from all walks of life. }:C)

We planted a fruit tree. Then we went to Home Depot and got a couple of free light bulbs. They are giving away a million light bulbs today. Suppose to save on electricity.

I have been using energy efficient lightbulbs for a few years now. As for planting a tree, there are quite a few here where I live, and some of my neighbors here have been planting various plants to make our common area look nice. When I find a shovel to dig a hole, I will be transplanting some of my aloe vera plants in an area that needs some green in it.

My Mom did that very thing. We had a plastic plant that turned yellow when I was a kid. I think it was close to a lamp, but my Mom likes to joke that she even killed a plastic plant!

Because it is Earth Day

I'll play along. HOTS, what do you say we get a 150 year old Redwood and plant it right in that gaping hole between your legs? Just stopping the toxic emissions your crotch releases into the atmosphere annually has to be the equivalent of American Airlines' entire fleet. That's the ONLY way I'm being a part of "Earth Day." You in?

In honor of Earth Day, I installed sod in my front yard. I am a good person for doing so, too. Don't you think?

Is SF going back to paper bags?
Wait! I know! Just back your car into the grocery store and load up!
