I say screw a label. I think they should do it all themselves and sell it to Walmart and Target. Promote it on TV and radio.

This one's made me laugh...don't know why.

Hopefully it won't be "different" - it's gotta be "Journey"!

I like Kevin's work for the most part, but why do you think he will return?-ERIC

I assume he meant Elson not Shirley.
Neal and JSS did a pretty damn good job on the Virgil version of Worldplay.

Gotta roll with Elson. Aside from perry sitting in the producer's chair, he's been behind their best, most rocking work.

I don't want Shirley anywhere NEAR the Plant when Journey goes in to lay down trax.

Perry didn't produce any of their Rock albums....
No to Shirley for me too, didn't care for his and Klod-ner's thinking they know what Journey is supposed to sound like.

Exactly.
He made TBF fluffy all the way through and Arrival fluffy in way too many spots.
And Strangegrey raises the point, he couldn't conjure up any tension on TBF. Just hollow songs. And he was a fuckin Journey know-it-all who knew NOTHING in every interview.
Anyway that chapter's closed, surely and they're thankfully not going back so no use bashing him anymore.

I'll restate my prefence of Elson as #1 choice to produce.

LOL. This coming from a guy who likes Butterfly. No, that "song" isn't fluffy at all.

Nothing wrong with a strong ballad or two. At least 80-20 rock to ballad ratio please.

Fluffy TITLE, Butterfly.
Not a fluffy song, Dean.

Fluff quotient-wise, the Shirley-produced Easy To Fall is approximately 46 times as fluffy as Elson's Butterfly.

You're just sore that Shirley once implied, if not came right out and said, that your hero  Perry couldn't cut it live anymore, but I think that was a Q&A or something, not an interview.

That's a little ballad-heavy for me, NealIsGod.
Next Journey album should have a MAXIMUM of 1 ballade. Hell, this isn't '96 or even 2001 anymore, no sense in throwing 5-6 ballads at the wall to see which one sticks as "THE NEXT OPEN ARMS." They're not beholden to the airwaves anymore.

Hell even the Generations songs that were on radio were TPIYH and FITH, rockers.

Easy to Fallis a stellar song. Butterfly is about as good as the runny shit I just took.

Pfff.
There's scintillating and thought-provoking analysis. What it IS, is you're blinded by the title of the song and Augeri resent.

The Shirley-produced All The Way is approx 59 times as fluffy as the Elson-helmed Beyond The Clouds.

keep KevCat.

I love Butterfly, if it had a different name and instead of Butterfly used a different word, it would take on a new conotation.

I have to agree with this. The actual song isn't one of Journey's "fluffier" ballads by a long shot, in my opinion.

Not if they are quality, like Little Girl, Loved By You, or Patiently.

Fyre is producing the new record. It's going to be full of Latin rhythms.

END OF DISCUSSION.

No stone throwing please, just my opinion--Butterfly by any other name would still be a sucky song...I skip over it when playing the album.

After the Fall is not fluffy...

Well, then you're a little sissy boy, aren't you?

Depends how many song on the cd, if they do 10 songs then 2 ballads, 13 or more then 3.
Butterfly is a great song.
Kevin S liked his production on Arrival but not TBF. GEnerations was a great cd, only bad thing Kevin E's production was great on all songs. Didn't flow good from one song to the next (Maybe if songs had been in a different order that could have been corrected)-ERIC

Now I know this doesn't apply to every band, but I tend to think a shorter album...say one of 8-10 songs usually turns out to be a better album than one with 13-15 songs. It's easier for me to give a new album a listen if there are only 8-10 songs on it, rather than one with 15. After 5 or 6 songs from one particular band, I get too much overload! Plus, your not as likely to get an album with fillers on it if the band keeps it to a max of 10 songs. Again, not saying that Journey isn't capable of putting out a great album that has 15 songs on it, but with their last two full length albums, there were songs in which I skip over and hardly ever listen to. However, Petra's last album (don't know if any of you are into Christian rock) only had like 8 songs on it, but every one of them were considered "hit songs" that I could listen to. Does that make any sense?

As in regards to the rock vs. ballad issue. I definitely agree that if you are going to have a record of 10 songs, no more than two ballads. I think 6 rockers, 2 mid-tempos, and 2 ballads would be perfect.

Was reading this thread and..."Fluffy"?LOL... Really now..."Fluffy" is part of Journey's "legacy".It's the fluff that made them strong.
