That's exactly how I've been calling JSS secretly since I have discovered all those clips.(actually,I posted something about his "chameleonic" voice...LOL)
Ain't that the truth?

I think my fave quality of Sir Soto's slay abilities is that
he gives a nice fresh flavour to what he ventures a take on.
Thanks for the links Shoot!

Belar, you know he CAN sing just about anything, but don't want to hear hip-hop or rap but to me they are the same ! AWFUL

Well, no-one can sing Flock of Seagulls. NO-ONE. Mike Score is the greatest singer of all time, in any genre. Other than that, Jeff can nail anything.

Are you the same guy that said David Lee Roth was the greatest frontman ever? Just wonderin'

RWF, I suppose I need to clarify...by "frontman", I was referring to the "overall package" - perhaps you could measure it in average decibels per audience member. There was NOTHING like Diamond Dave in his prime, and I've seen them all...he even put Steven Tyler to shame. Now, did I say he had a great voice? Hell, no. By his own admission, he had "at best" an average voice. I had two older cousins who "forced" me to see a ton of rock/metal bands in the late 70's and early 80's...I mean, Steve blew him away vocally, and was an amazing showman, too...damn, I'm writing myself into a corner here, so I'm just going to shut my cake-hole.

My pick wouldn't be Perry either, though he probably had the best voice in his prime. Mercury was the best frontman ever, hands down! Slam dunk!

Can't disagree with that. He had the voice, in the early days at least, and great stage presence.

As Niggy would say, "True Dat!" But Diamond Dave in his prime was what Rock and Roll was all about and,
even if he didn't sing that great, he was STILL the total package when it came to showmanship.

I wish someone would find/post the mysterious samples of JSS singing Journey songs (over Journey music performed by Journey--probably the original studio tracks minus Perry's vocal) that appeared briefly on the Soul SirkUS and Journey websites a couple of years ago. By the time I download one sample posted at Backtalk, the post had been removed.

Back in the day, I thought DLR was cool. Looking back at some of those old VH clips on Youtube, though, he now seems more like a drunken, stoned fool.

That's because you let yourself get old.
VH put on an incredible show back then, and DLR was a huge reason for it. He set the bar for showmanship.

Dave partied kind of like Ted...it was mainly about the women, although the Diamond did confess to sporadic drug use, and he could light 'em up with the best of 'em. You couldn't do what he did, night after night, year after year, if you were drunk all the time.

I don't know Red. Wasn't it DLR that the Motley Crue boys were complaining about not sharing his drugs in their book "Dirt"?
LOL, yes I actually read it.

Looking at the total showmanship package even I would have a hard time choosing which of the two would win the "Entertainer of the Year" award. Steve was hands down the better singer, but Dave was just so damned fun to watch. Of course I prefer Steve because
I'm a Perryloon who can't have an objective opinion where he's concerned
, but I loved watching Dave do his schtick and he was really a pretty good singer.
