Spiderman 3 Spy Report

PostPosted: Sat May 05, 2007 12:32 pm
by Jeremey
Just got back in from seeing this tonight!

My favorite of the Spiderman movies. But for an odd reason - It's not the "superhero" movie that 1 and 2 are. It's more of a Sam Raimi movie this time around - Lots of oddball shit in this film, but that's why it's my favorite of the 3. I think conventional wisdom will say differently, but it gets an A in my book!

Yeah, I know what you mean, Jeremey. I saw it, too, and don't want to give anything away to those who haven't. But those parts fell flat with me in the theater, but when I think of Raimi's other work (Evil Dead), I see what you mean.

I would subtract a few of the really cheesy, hokey parts that made me roll my eyes and much of the audience to laugh out loud. I'd give it a B, but with some editing, could be an A.

going to see it later this afternoon, so far 2 is the best, but that could change. Just hope it is not like the dreadful Batman and Robin hokey-ERIC

I saw it last night...Mark and I really liked it!

BUT...yeah....there's some MAJOR "cringe-worthy" moments....oh, and a bad "John Travolta - walkin' - down - the - street" moment, too...

You'll see... 8)

Yeah, that's one of the things that pissed me off. And the scene in the jazz club. But, like Jeremey said, these are the kind of over-the-top things that Raimi is known for. But it kind of ruined it for me.

Moonie, SM2 is my favorite. LOVE Doc Ock. But Sandman was great in the new one. Exactly like the comic.

You know, I purchased the first two for my little dude, and he enjoyed them more than I did...the third installment is the best. It doesn't touch any of the Lord of the Rings movies (they're in constant rotation here), but it's still fantastic. And before the PTA mothers get on my case...I don't generally allow him to see violent movies, but those five films are the exception. Well, that's not entirely true. I took him to see "Resivoir Dogs" when he was two, but he didn't like Keitel's character. :D

Kinda liked 3 the best, more character in the movie. My 3 year old had trouble sitting still unless there was action on screen. But good movie overall. Must say I did not expect the goblin ending!!-ERIC

possible spoilers!

THis post is SLIGHTLY spoilerish...but not too bad...

Am I the only one who was HORRIBLY disappointed by this film?
Where do I start...WAY too many villians. VENOM, who is possibly the coolest Spidey villian ever, is absolutely WASTED in this film...and don't get me started on what "becomes" of him...Rami only put VENOM in this film to appease the producers and the fanboys and IT SHOWS!
Kirsten Dunst, as bad as she was in 1 and 2, is HORRIBLE in this thing, merely reaffirming that she was woefully miscast in this movie. Byrce Howard's character was useless - WHY introduce Gwen Stacy in film three? Rami;s point of casting Kiki as MJ was to sort of "integrate" the two characters of Mary Jane and Gwen into one. Ok, cool...so WHY BRING GWEN IN NOW??? Makes no sense, and , as usual with Hollywood and comic movies are concerned, it pisses on the source material.
And how about that manipulative, weepy crap at the end ??? MY LORD, I thought I was watching an episode of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRARIE...I kept expecting Michael Landon to pop out at any second weeping profusely with the rest of the cast and initiate a group hug! PEEE-EWWWW!
And how about EMO Peter Parker?? "Hey...THIS'LL prove I'm bad...I'll start wearing black and MESS UP MY HAIR!!!" And, My God, did the film turn into THE MASK at one point??? WTF?????
I didn't totally hate it, believe it or not. Bryce Dallas Howard was quite good (and qutie hot!) - JK SImmonds (as always) was a friggin riot, and some of the fights (what few there were- Peter is only actually in the Spidey costume about 20 minutes of the film) were kick ass. OVerall, though, a huge letdown...WHY can't they get a third comic film RIGHT???????

Exactly the parts I was thinking of, as well as some smaller bits. Love the creepy tooth effect on Topher Grace. Reminded me of Bill Paxton in Raimi's Simple Plan.

I didn't read your spoiler post X Factor but I will
once I've seen the film. :)
Yup, that's right, Prick Dorf didn't take us last night
and I am losing any patients I had with him.
He said he would take us today after the kids get
out of school......here's to hoping......sigh.

Wonderful Web of a film!, we loved it, had only two complaints
and I won't spill it here for fear of spoiling it for someone.
Best part, cool special effects, sucked me in like the sandstorm that
played on the screen before me.........
That HD on the players faces is really something else, ain't it?

So glad we went to see it at the theatre. :D

Venom be cool but I'm holding out for The Rhino in one of em!

I disagree on the MJ thing X factor, I love her in all of em though
Hubby and I both found her to look less spirited and live like in
this one, darker plot with her and Spidey this time maybe?
Whatever, I say keep her.

I loved most of this flick but do find myself asking the question as to why
they pulled the name Gwen Stacy into this one, I expected more
of the comic character to come through.
I wasn't dazzled by BD Howard's performance, she was the one
I was most looking forward to in this one and they did NOTHING with her
not her fault but she didn't do anything for me.
Make her be Black Cat and she would have held my attention better.
Peter Parker after Black Spidey get-up was Chris Gaines to me, nerd works
just fine when it comes to Mr Bugle Boy.

Not quite the same as seeing it in the theater, but I am sure you will like it. Give us a report later.

I know it isn't the same as seeing it in the theaters, Niggy, but it will have to do. I just found out yesterday that I will have to pay for my Medicare now, and that is almost 95 dollars less than what I have been getting from SS.

Anyway, I did enjoy the movie, even tho one part drove me nuts. Bryn was wondering why Peter Parker was acting the way he was. Of course I had to explain it to her. What is bad is that I haven't seen Spiderman or Spiderman 2, so I don't know if anything in 3 cleared up anything from the previous movies. Looks like I will have to get those first two movies to find out.

I did get some other movies in this week as well. I watched "Big White" with Robin Williams. That was a strange movie. I do have "The Covenant" (horror), "The Libertine" with Johnny Depp, which both of them I will have to watch when Bryn is in school. I have "Pan's Labyrinth", which is a foreign film, and I thought would be a children's movie. I googled the movie adn found out it isn't really for kids. So I do have some new movies to watch. :D

Yeah, you really need to see the first two to fully understand Harry Osborn, Green Goblin, etc. But you probably caught on with no problem.

Harry is Pete's friend, the guy in the black outfit, and he thought SM killed his father in part 1 (the original Green Goblin). In actuality, GG sent his glider to come up from behind SM to stab him. SM ducked and the glider stabbed GG. That's what Harry's butler told him in SM3.

Oh now I get it ! Thanks Niggy! I will have to see if I can get my friends to rent the first two Spiderman films to get caught up.

Hey, why aren't you in VA? :D
