New Journey song

Postby Angiekay » Wed May 09, 2007 12:33 am

Apologies if this has been discussed, I haven't had much time to skim everything.

Journey will premiere a new song this weekend, when the band plays a show commemorating the 400th anniversary of the first British settlement in the U.S. The track is called "Winds Of Freedom," and a rough demo version was just laid down last week. Lead singer Jeff Scott Soto wrote on the Journey message board, "It sounds killer if I might say so, a testament of what's to come. It starts off kinda like 'When You Love A Woman,' but it's not a traditional Journey ballad, especially lyrically."

The song will have its world premiere on Saturday (May 12th), when Journey performs at the America's Cup Of Polo match between the U.S. and English teams at Morven Park in Leesburg, Virginia. The event is being held to mark the 400th anniversary of British settlement in America, on May 14th, 1607, in Jamestown in what is now Virginia.

Journey will open the event with a version of "The Star Spangled Banner," then return after the polo match to play a full set, which will include "Winds Of Freedom." Proceeds will go to the non-profit Journey For The Cure, which supports the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the MS Society for research into multiple sclerosis.
This will be Journey's last show for the foreseeable future. Plans are underway to record a new album, with a release possible early next year.

The title is gay, but I'm sure it will rock. 8)

Speaking of which, I hope that it's not something like what Elton John did with his tribute to MM, where he changed lyrics for Di.

The music had better not be too similar to WYLAW, with new lyrics applied. :(

Well HOTS, it wouldn't be the first time...
Isn't Message of Love just Seperate Ways cut up, sliced up and thrown in a blender for good measure?
I don't think it will be 'overly' similar just for the sheer fact that Jeff adds a whole new writing dynamic to the band.

I think that JSS wrote that Neal and Jon had the bulk of it already finished while he was away. I would hope that JSS wouldn't agree to a ripoff of WYLAW in the same way, Carl. I can't see it as a good beginning to NEW music from them.

As per Jeff's post about it, he commented that it "starts off kinda like" WYLAW. So well I am thinking it will have that traditional "Journey" sound, I can't see it being a ripoff. Time will tell, curious to hear it. :)

Jeff will put his touch on the song. He'll also be singing it- making it his own. I don't think it will be a ballad in the WYLAW sense. Time will tell ;).

LOL!
Lula, you and Debbie both wrote, "Time Will Tell." Now that would have been a great title for their first song.

Has a new song been so anticipated from Journey, as this? Will it be an indicator or what is to be expected in the future?

Time will tell! This is a great opportunity for JSS. The best of luck for new beginnings!

Does anyone have any idea if this is being televised anywhere? I know ESPN Radio (DC/Maryland) is one of the partners in the event but I can't find any info confirming whether this is going to be aired in any form. (I'm still looking though!)

Jeff? Would you know?

I second that hope.

That song is horrible and this band is capable of far more.

I'm wondering if the new song will be included on the new album. :?:

Also,I'd be curious to know if "Winds of Freedom" was composed especially for the Virginia event..If so,I guess it will have a different feel to it.
Or it could be a "normal" Journey song that was written previously and it happens to match the idea of the event.

Maybe I missed the info on this.

From what I gather the song was written for Virginia/Jamestown.

Pilgrims and Indians; heavy on the drums, synthesizers for the winds, heavy on the bass for the rough seas, high guitar solo for the freedom of the new life...I can hear it. :)

...or is it going to be about the immediate relief one feels when,
after days of stomach cramps and constipation, that those refreshing
and sometimes potent "Winds Of Freedom" are finally released and all is well again

I think you are right, I think it will be similar, but more drums. JSS will probably rock it out too, I pray.

Get out! Castles Burning? That was the Back Talk of TBF. An absolute stinker...

Ironically enough, my next student today is 16, but she is a Journey fanatic, and she has WYLAW down to a T. Believe it or not, she was a Journey maniac before she started studying with me...how about that?
