In and out of Journey?

My mother's a huge Loon and I want to make her a Journey-themed multimedia presentation for today. :)

Are there any that doesn't refer to missing her? Like, any written as if she were still around?

well , almost all of street talk is about girlfriends,, then anything after that, that just might be about something other than immediate love is DEPRESSING,, so if you looking for happy better go with his upbeat tunes, mother or not,, captured by the moment , strungout.. do you recall, feeling that way,,

I'll Be Aliright Without You and I THINK Once You Love Somebody. At least I hear some undertones there. "But letting go..that's the hardest part".

Altho Jon Cain wrote the song, Mr. P has mentioned in a few interviews that when she was ill and he was on the road, whenever she would see the vid for "Faithfully" and it got to the part where he was shaving his moustache, she would cry and someone would call him so she could talk to him and he could calm her.

Allegedly, around that time, when Journey was in the studio, there was a helicopter so Perry could travel back and forth as needed immediately.

It reached a point where he took the time off and stayed by her side to the end.

the helicopter part is from the ROR recordings, not Frontiers.

"Melody." Also written for the late Mrs. P, God bless her soul...there never would have been a Journey without her.

Sorry 7,but "Melody" wasn't written for Mrs.P...

SP said it himself: "It's really about my relationship with musical melody. I've always been in love with a beautiful "Melody." Of course it could be a girl's name but the original idea for the song was about the "melody of music."

I'll be damned. Oh, well. Wrong again...don't tell Slander or Froy. I've been up working on some new songs, and I have to get up in four hours to drive my son to school...first lesson is at 10:00, then straight through until 4:00. Why am I still up? Good question. Ah, the music, she is in my blood, no?

Shania, what about "Back Talk"? Or was that written by his mom? Either way, I can't decide if that song or "Castles Burning" gets my vote for worst Journey song ever...there are only a few I don't like, so it's kind of difficult.

In all seriousness, though (and I should get out your book as a reference but I'm too stubborn and tired), was "One More Time" written for her? My God, that song makes me cry every time I listen to it...I can only handle it once every few months. It seems to manifest everything that's ever broken my heart over the years...

I didn't say it was from Frontiers - just from when his mother was dying.

LOL...Back Talk is not among my favorites either.

I don't know about "One More Time"...It was supposed to be on the FTLOSM album, but for some reason Perry changed his mind and left it out.
1994... Maybe he wrote it for his Mom,maybe for Journey...works either way.He never gave any details.

According to Cain, these 2 songs are bookends and not about Mrs P, but one about going head-over-heels for a terrific piece and then one about moving on when the inevitable happens.

Just one more thing that makes ROR so cool to me.

"IBAWY is really the second part of OYLS." ----Friga.
"I love almost everybody."---Rocky Balboa 1990
"Let's reform this thing.Let's go out and get some guys who want to work and go do it"--Neal Schon February, 2001
"I looked at Neal, and I just saw a guy who really wants his band back"-JCain 2/01

I remember that from Time 3 liner notes...but I do think that those songs have something to do with his mom along with the divorces they were going through at that time. My opinion anyway...take it lightly.

I think it was some sort of degenerative bone disease..unless I'm confusing her's with someone else's.

Not sure exactly - I believe it was a type of cancer - when responding to rumours that he had throat cancer Perry responded that he did not - that people had assumed that he was the patient when he was seen with his mother at the treatment center.

Perry's Mom died because of a severe neurological illness, which made her incapable of speaking towards the end...Very sad.

Liam, the degenerative bone disease is what SP was diagnosed with.
