Trial By Fire

Someone told me that this entire album is one big religious Christianity metaphor, but I am not so sure. Anyone else heard this?

I think it was more a metphor on "how to dangle a golden carrot in front
of your fans and band-mates" only to leave them ALL shit out of luck and left hanging

Although Journey never said that,it might be true. The title of the album is inspired by the Bible and the song (TBF) too.

The opening lyrics of "Trial By Fire" are shaped after an excerpt from the 2nd Book of Corinthians.

"But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed."

"Treasures in the jars of clay
Let the light shine out of darkness
Fallen down but not destroyed
It's just another trial by fire"

Other songs may be related to Biblical references as well...
"One More" is sure one of them.

That's what I'd heard, too. One of the things I like the most about the song TBF.

Songs like "One More," "Colors of the Spirit," and "Trial by Fire" make the album for me. They were a little deeper and more experimental than the rest of the songs on the album.

If the other songs had better lyrics than the typical "my broken heart" fare, and stayed true to this constant theme, TBF would probably be my favorite Journey album.

KILLER instrumentation and arrangement, just.... weakness in the lyrical department. Also, some of the ballads I could do without.

don't know about the Bible connection, but I do love When I think of you and another ballad or two from it.

I love this album. Lyrics are amazing on some songs and shallow on others.
