Awesome! Thanks so much. I didn't know that video was out there. I fell in love with that song when I started listening to Captured. I still love Captured. Great stuff.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

I agree, Dean. While the lineup is a bit different, Journey is arguably tighter than ever musically. Vocally, no one will ever match Perry and we ALL know that. I don't think that has EVER been a point of contention here. But trying to say that the band was tighter back then just doesn't fly with me.

Schon is 10 times the guitarist today than he was in 1980, if such a thing is even possible.

I agree, Jeremey. 27 years ago I would have told you that you were fuckin' nuts. Today, I'll merely say that you are correct. 8)

I really think the demise of Journey in 1988 forced him to become a better guitarist. He could have coasted for another 10 years, handcuffed by Perry's musical direction, but instead he found himself having to survive by proving to the world that he wasn't just another faceless sideman.

One difference that I could think of. The songs back then – they were new. New creations by that version of the band. They were the ones still breathing life into those songs...together. Not to say that ANY of the linups from that point on did not do justice to playing those songs. But there's a certain energy and excitement comes through when you're sculpting and nurturing your own creations that can't be matched. The band was really taking off at that time, so there's nno doubt that they were always pushing to be on top of their game. Hopefully, soon you all will be able to see that again with the band.
