Strung Out Video

Do any of you remember seeing the original, full length version of Perry's 'Strung Out' video?

There was an additional couple of minutes at the end, where a woman named Sheila introduces Steve to the man who will be directing 'his first big video...Oh Sherrie.' I believe the director's name was Graham Dent, and he went off on how there would be trumpets and fanfare, and it ends with Steve saying 'but there are no trumpets in my song!' This gives better explanation to the Sherrie video, and Sheila and Graham Dent are both in the Sherrie video as well.

I remember seeing that version on MTV years ago, but haven't seen it since. :?

Escape - is this a different scene to the one at the beginning of the Oh Sherrie video...which was also on the trumpet and
fanfare theme? Did they carry on the joke?

Yep
The directors name was Graham but I can't recall his last name.
remember a spark of a match in the dark
billowing clouds of smoke riising from the shadows
Acrd stench dancing within the light
How can there be such beauty from an deadly stick of fire.

Yeah, I've got that one. That's my favorite Perry video. The look on Steve's face when they start babbling about the concept of the Oh Sherrie video is priceless.

Great song, but I'm with Perry on this one. I don't like videos and I don't think he did either. I like to associate songs with memories, not some ridiculous videos. I still have nightmares about that silly fuckin' Cars video. I hate that group....just for that.

Video: Pussified.

Song itself: Badass, especially the Journey version from the live shows.

I agree on that (and I remember that hideous Cars video! )

The funny thing about videos is that for me some of them worked the other way around...For example I hate Madonna's music, but she had some amazing videos that made me like the song because of the great visuals.

On a similar note, I read one time that this is why Seal doesn't include the lyrics with his CDs (at least he didn't with his older CDs). He didn't want to ruin the listener's interpretation of the songs, but rather have them experience it the way THEY were hearing it. I respect that.

Great description. That group sucked. MAYBE 1 or 2 decent songs, but other than than that they were pure shit.

I bet Perry still has nightmares about the "Separate Ways" video then! I must say, I hated that video but that is still THE song that got me into Journey.

Well, honestly, most of the videos on the '80s were pretty bad. Anyone remember the video for "Sledgehammer"? What the hell was that? How about "Safety Dance"? WTF?

Billy Squire's 'Rock Me Tonight.'

They tried to mold him as a bad-ass, but the dude comes off as a total fruit in this video.

Yes they were. I liked the rock videos better when most of them went to concert type videos (thank you Wayne Isham). They are musicians not actors. Leave the concept videos to Madonna, etc.

Billy credits that video with ruining his career. He took some real bad advice.

Are you crazy, Belar? Those Peter Gabriel videos were incredible...way ahead of their time and totally different from all the cliched rubbish that was on MTV at that time.

I like the SW video. I want to see the guys that actually sing the song in the video. No actors, scenes from movies or bullshit love stories. Separate Ways had the right idea....just didn't come across real enough. A bit cheesy. My Grade: B-
