1) Ok, you have a singer that has his own fan base worldwise, and makes it easy to get booked in Europe.
2) He has more solo albums than Perry & Augeri combined, so you know he can write music.
3) He's sang professionally & toured in bands and as a solo artist for 20+ years, so there's experience.
4) His stage persona is energetic, and the crowd loves it.
5) The chicks dig him.
6) Equally at home in a disco band, solo piano, or singing with Queen so he's versatile.
7) Slippery wet stage, he gets right back up & keeps on singing.
8) Other than a little Grey Goose, no substance abuse problems.
9) Youthful energy takes away from people's perceptions it's an "older band".
10) Lots of other artists want to work with him, (incl Steve Lukather) so he's a known commodity.
Maybe he was overqualified for the gig?

He probably got in the band and thought. Fuck! These assholes are dinosaurs! He was getting all the chicks, pissing Neal and Friga off because he has all that energy. Absolutely overqualified.

haha. soto and castronovo were probably the youngest looking of the band. schon and cain have aged a lot, and poor ross looks like father time.

Kind of implied by number 9, but sure.

No. There was never, nor will there ever be, anything like Steve Perry onstage. I'm blessed to have seen him a half dozen times in the 80's.

He was a great showman. I saw him a couple of times, and I've never been entertained as well at any other concert, and I've seen dozens. Good for you 7.

I second that! No one ever came close to Perry. No one.
Why do you think ANY other vocalist is so controversial?

I never ever implied a comparision to Perry when making this thread. Squirt1 was saying it might have reminded them of the old days, a front man taking control of the stage. Maybe it freaked them out.

As long as we're adding things...
12) Doesn't act like a douchebag to the people who put him where he is - his fans.
(Neal can claim no such thing, and that's a first hand account)

Jeff has charisma and stage presence that detracted from Neal and the others, so I guess ego (not his) is what got him canned. Was he over qualified?? In every way, yes!!
