So in other words Jeff wanted to go in the direction of new music and the different direction Jon was talking about meant different than Jeff's in that they just want to keep doing the nostalgia thing.

They believe Jeff wouldn't make them money, but they know that a Perry clone and the 'legacy' sound will. Money talks, indeed.
This all leaves a very bad taste....and the writing was on the wall with Steve A's treatment.

If they had just told Jeff that, he probably would have agreed that it wasn't a good fit, and left amicably. Why did they do it the way they did?

A little twist that David Chase worked into the last scene....the "would-be" hit man who enters the restaurant at the same time as AJ, sits at the counter and then goes to the bathroom is none other than Steve Perry himself (as his song plays on the jukebox! lol). Go back and look at the facial features. There's no doubt it's him. Another stroke of genius by David Chase. Love it!

JSS was a GREAT choice, if an ambitious one.

That's BS. It was a guy who owns a pizza parlor that some casting person from Sopranos found. They wanted a classic Italian looking guy, and he fit the bill.

It's the same guy that played Philly Phil's nephew a few seasons ago...
