I am a longtime Journey admirer, although not as much as the people here seem to be.
I've found the sturm and drang over Soto's firing over the past few days to be kind of funny. It's amazing that people who post obsessively on a message board dozens of times a day really think they are through with their favorite band for good.
Whatever.
I would bet everything I own that if I were to check back here in one year, all of you will still be here talking about your favorite band. You are diehard fans. [Fan]atics. What else are you gonna do.
Soto is a badass and I am not a fan of his solo work, but the dude was wrong for Journey and he sounded wrong doing their stuff live. Steve 2.0 had a decent voice, but it was a thin approximation of the original and his songwriting wasn't that good either.
It blows my mind that people really want "Hugo" to be the new lead vocalist. I've listened to him on Youtube and his vocals are mediocre, despite their occasional resemblance to Perry. Also, the lookalike thing is really creepy and the press would destroy the band if they hired a lookalike.
The Jeremy guy has a better voice, but it's kind of sad if Journey feels the need to hire yet another clone to copy Perry.
I think Journey should find some great 20 year old kid with Perry's vocal range and modify their material to fit him. If not, then they need to pack it in.

You'd be wrong, cuz I'll probably be on the JSS forum here........ only checking in here when it has to do with Perry.

You would be wrong. I think that Journey will be retired in a year or so. They cannot survive another lead singer change. And all they want to do is the GH tours? Nah. I'd rather would of liked to hear new music from them.
Journey is a joke, and I won't be here in a year.

I will bet you a million dollars that their concert revenues will not suffer one bit since most people who attend Journey concerts don't care about who is on stage, as long as the songs sound like the records.
You'll still be on this board a year from now. Why? Because despite how pissed off you are, you're here right now.

Once again, you are wrong with your assessments aaronproot.
The only good thing Journey has done for me lately is make yet another fan for Jeff, in me. I've moved on form supporting Journey. Jeff on the other hand, will have a fan for life, in me. Afterall, I've got to spend the extra money I'll have left over, on someone, it may as well be someone I have actual respect for.

If you guys have sworn off Journey, why are you still posting in the Journey forum? Shouldn't you be elsewhere celebrating your new Journey-free life?

Besides, Many of us are fans of PERRY, so I guess we ahve a right to be here and babble on about non important shit, if we choose to. Quit trying to antagonize us, you won't win.

What you don't seem to understand is that many of us are friends and like posting here and interacting with each other, whether we're talking about Journey or anything else under the sun.

Ok, that was just funny!
Here's the thing about Journey . . . . we traveled, we have callouses, we drank together, we have horrific travel experiences but ultimately, we go to the concert see each other at other events surrounding the concert and become friends. Journey is just the common thread. I have met some incredibly wonderful people here that I look forward to seeing at the concerts . . . . the parties . . . . the sight seeing, etc. That's why I can't wait to South Bend!!!!!

You are right on the money. As long as the band still sounds great, the people will come. There may be a few here that actually call it a night, but let's face it, we're still here 25 years after the bands heydey.

So maybe to preserve the friendships and to start the healing process, maybe you guys can start an "I Was Obsessed With Journey, But Now I'm No Longer a Fan Even Though I Still Listen to Their Albums Everyday and to Hell With Jonathan Cain" message board?

Yes, you're right, some of you will stay, and new fans will come along too. I will always be a fan of Steve Perry's voice, but I have my cd's for that. I know it won't make a difference to the band, but it makes a difference to me what I am supporting. My friends will find me in other places around here.

You guys have supported this band through some pretty mediocre albums over the past decade or so, the loss of the main reason the world likes Journey, a poor Steve Perry clone, and more drama than a group of drag queens in a poodle shop.
If you've come this far, you will never jump off the bandwagon. You need Journey as much as Journey needs you.

We are not here for supporting the band anymore though, that's the difference. Only supporting each other through the loss. When we feel ready to move on, don't worry, many of us will. And DUH!!!!!!!!! We don't think the band will suffer in the least, but I will feel a whole lot better about not supporting a band that is a big disappointment.

I guess this is where I disconnect with fans of bands, singers, or actors. How is something that happens to people who are essentially strangers to you, a "loss?" Aside from Soto who posts here and is a classy dude, the Journey boys seem like a pack of a-holes. It's just a band and you should celebrate the music. Nothing else matters.

I have to agree that your posts are antagonistic...but very true. I saw Journey 3 times with Soto last year, and I never thought his voice fit in. He is clearly a stand-up guy, and Journey should not have announced him as the lead singer unless they were absolutely committed to him and having a new sound.
I think that what we have here is the reality of the business meeting peoples personal feelings. I think it is hard for people on here to come to grips with the reality that JSS really hasn't had what I would call major success in his career. If JSS would have remained Journey's lead singer and recorded an album...it would have been mediocre at best to the majority of the fan base. People on this site would rave about it for sure...but the numbers would speak for themselves.
Yes...it is hard to come to grips with the fact that our music idols are not the gracious and kind people we want them to be, but that is reality. If we based our music choices on peoples true personalities (outside of the obnoxious artisits who try to use their stage as a political arena), we probably wouldn't listen to a whole lot of music. The fact is, you have to play the hits at these shows. When your average Journey fan who doesn't know or care about a site called Melodic Rock goes to a concert and doesn't hear the songs from their high school days...they are going to be pissed. I wish JSS well, and I hope Journey chooses their next steps wisely.

I'm starting to sense a frisson of hostility in your posts, faux Kalodner.
It would be refreshing to see an honest to goodness fan revolt against the tyranny of a power made rock combo, but methinks all this sound and fury signifies nothing (to paraphrase the legendary Billy Shakespeare).
You still love despite the hurt.

They could call this forum "Gay midget porn" instead of Journey and I would still post here because of the people, not the forum name. And if it was a gay porn thread, I'm quite sure your measly post count would jump exponentionally.

What if I were gay, much like "Butterfly" from the last album? There is nothing wrong with gay homosexuals and it is wrong for you to deploy that word as an insult.
I'm merely pointing out that people who have an obsessive compulsive fanship for an artist have a hard time letting go.
And for the record, I don't like gay porn. Klingon bukkake is more my speed.

LMAO. Nice. Don't ya just love it when the trolls come out of hiding to stir the shit when something bad happens?.
