Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - Shot All To Hell?

Postby scarygirl » Sun Jun 17, 2007 12:22 am

Does anybody else here think that the band's chances of induction are blown to smithereens? What about Steve Perry? Could he be inducted alone, based on his own merits?

Absolutely, blown to hell without a single recognizable piece left...although, I personally think chances of the HoF were shot to hell sometime in the 90s and even 80s....but it's my personal opinion that the only way there stands a snowballs chance in hell of the Hof even considering them is if Perry comes back. They didn't consider VH for the hall until word of Daves return to the band became more 'solid'. They were elgible in 03 or 04 when sammy returned for a tour...and even then, they didn't consider them.

So really, for Journey to be invited, considered or even thought about for a fraction of a second, Perry needs to be back at the helm. They bring in this jeremey character and any hopes or dreams of being elected to the hall will get immediately scuttled forever. I don't think the HoF would show any love to a band that has replaced a singer twice....let alone, three times. It just aint happening...

This will have no bearing on their HOF chances. Most classic rock fans probably don't even know about it. Industry insiders may know overall but I doubt they really care one way or the other.

I don't think it will hurt any chances, either. The HOF is going to look over the band's contribution to the industry as a whole. They aren't going to be concerned with any problems within the band, recent or otherwise. Bands like Van Halen & Talking Heads had no problem getting in despite turmoil amongst the members. I'm just curious as to who will take the podium, if anyone, when they do get in.

I still think this band should be a shoo-in for their classic era work, it was too good, and I am willing to say they will still get in for that. 1977-1996.

You can't deny the product they generated.

I agree there, there's no way they could overlook what they created during that time, but then again.....
Fuck Journey.

Exactly. The post perry members aren't eligible anyway and that incarnation won't ever be for a lot of reasons, but the 77-96 era, I believe, will be in one day.

Perry inducted alone? Sorry but, won't happen. It's not been 25 years since ST was released, for one thing, but as a solo artist, one sucessful album isn't enough. They look at that in a big way. His biggest contributions to the music industry were with Journey, so that's his way in.

He is eligible in 2009. It's all speculation obviously. However with all the current press attention due to the Soprano episode, I think many are realizing or remembering what an iconic talent he is.

Should is the operative word in that sentence. I agree that Journey with Steve Perry deserves to be inducted into the HOF. That said, there aren't any bands like Journey in the HOF, so I'm not sure it's ever going to happen. If it were to happen, it certainly wouldn't include Steve Augeri, Jeff Scott Soto or Deen Castronovo, as none of those guys would have ANYTHING to do with the honor being bestowed upon Journey! As for Perry getting in on his own merits...absolutely NOT! Even the most ardent Perry fan out there (I count myself as one of them) could never believe that Perry deserves that kind of recognition for one successful solo album, which is what he has to his credit. As I've always said, the name Journey and Steve Perry's voice will be FOREVER linked, and nothing will ever change that. The guys calling themselves Journey today have been trying to change that for the past 10 years, and it simply isn't going to happen!

after this week, they deserve it more than ever, based on the idea that the HOF is a joke.

Perry will get in, whether that means anything good or not.

I have a hard time believing that Perry would get in based on two solo albums, one of which was average.

I'm with Niggy, though. Who really cares anyway?

with all the termoil, drama and crap over the last 9 years, this should make Journey a shue in. How irnoic would it be if in Sept, they are on the list of nominies, for 30 years in 08 of Infinity... That would be pretty damn funny and it would be as bad as Van Halen, where only two guys show up...

The people who decide who gets inducted into the R&R HOF are the critics who hated Journey more than anyone for the last 30 years.

Critics hated Sabbath too, but after dozens of "respected" bands cited them as an influence, eventually they had to get their due...same with Queen, Aerosmith, and others.

Unfortunately Journey's critical stature hasn't improved over the years like some other bands, and I don't see that happening anytime soon. I have a feeling they'll fall into the same category with a band like Bon Jovi; bands who sold a ton of records but never really had any respect from critics. That's what gets you into the hall of fame, anyway.
