Jeremey's Rolling Away the Stone

The dude can flat out write and sing, you must admit. Imagine how good this would be with Schon and Cain's touches and a little better production. This is hard to ignore.

Its JEREMEY .
And are you kiddin me about Schon/Cains touch!? Last they touched somethin it was a knife they stuck in a friends back !!
Jeremey is too good for them. You'd wish Jeremey playing with them only if youre his enemy!

Sounds like a direct attempt at FTLOSM Perry, right down to the phoney vocal inflections. Just put on the wig, shirt and tails and be done with it.

Damn, I don't like impersonations of ANYbody. It just pisses me off to know Journey is headed down this road again. How many times were fans told to let it go and move on with them to another era of Journey and new music? Even if they write some new stuff, they still want it to sound as close to Perry as they can. That's just too damn strange for me.

Too lazy to see what your original screen name was.

I've seen Jeremey perform live a lot and shared some beers with him. Of course he's very talented. Love what he does as a performer. Good guy too.

I'm pissed at what went down with Jeff though - completely and totally. Nicest guy in the business.

My advice - if you want Jeremey to get the gig, all these threads are not going to help matters. The 2 creeps in control don't like anyone else getting any attention.

Friga lose the blouse.

I hear you. I feel the same. I was very reluctant about accepting Jeff into Journey, even though I loved his work with Neal in SoulSirkus. I did come around, and I think Jeff busted is ass and deserved respect. I also think he raised his own bar and in the end was a better singer than he was originally--which was fucking good!

But when I hear Jeremy doing his own material, well its pretty fucking awesome and if that was Journey I couldn't complain, because that IS the sound that I love and miss.

I don't know what to feel anymore. I think Schon and Cain have screwed everything with the moral dilemma they created for the fans. I know its only rock-n-roll, but nobody likes betrayal. They do look pretty bad, and Jeremy would sound great in the band, and he seems like a decent guy. Pity if Journey's karma should hit him in the head because of what they've done to Jeff and Steve.

Just a suggestion: U might want to figure out how to spell Jeremey's name if u plan to be his fan forever! Spelling it "Jeremy" is kind of an insult to the guy, dont u think?

It's amazing how much Jeremey sounds like Steve Perry. Honestly, it's all bad timing. If Jeremey had been asked to fill in for Augeri, we probably would've all felt better about things.

But it's NOT Journey. It's Jeremey's band and Jeremey is not Steve Perry, nomatter how much Friga and Fro want him to be. That sound you "love and miss" is Steve Perry's melodic influence and writing ability. Just because someone has a similar range or tries to duplicate his phrasing or inflections isn't gonna magically give him all the rest of the tools needed to be a co-writer and contributing force in a band like Journey.

This is the same crap they pulled with Augeri. Getting someone without all the tools to step into such a monumental band.

Soto came the closest so far and they dumped him. He wasn't trying to sound like anyone other than himself. I think what he really wanted was Journey to break out of their stagnant mold and try something fresh. Cain is like an old bitty sitting in her rocker, arms folded, saying how "that's the way it's always been and I ain't gonna change now"!

Did you listen to the song? Jeremey wrote that. He wrote others too. I think that's the point about Jeremey. is that he does seem to have the "melodic influence and writing ability" you spoke of. That is what is creating the dilemma for me. If all he could do is cover Perry like a fly on shit, then that's not good enough. If he can make some new stuff that fits the Journey brand, well....I have to admit I'm buying that.

That song fucking kicks ass. My god dude. How you managed not to giet picked up by a label is a mystery to me. Were we born too late ?

Ok, my opinion is this....it cheapens the band and makes them all look like a bunch of incompetent losers when they hang everything they have on the Perry sound and the Perry years. Do you REALLY think they are interested in Jeremey's writing talents? They want him to be a replica, a clone, an impersonator. That's why they hired Augeri. They didn't give a rat's ass about his writing ability. That plan failed, so they snapped up Soto to get them out of a mess.
Jeremey is going to be used to try his hardest to cover Perry, period. Perry's shadow will loom larger over Jeremey than it did over Augeri or Soto, just because he tries so hard to sound like him. That won't benefit Jeremey in the long run and it sure as hell isn't gonna gain Journey any points with their long time fanbase.

Sure he can sing but the fact is we're gonna be stuck with another Perry copy cat and I wasn't really waiting for that.
After attended a couple of tame Augeri/Journey-shows over the last few years I was totally blown away by the energy Jeff brought on stage... I've never witnessed anything like it before. It was like they all got a testosterone-shot before hitting the stage. After getting to know Jeff's music I was so thrilled for the music they would write together.

Jeff was their ticket for a fresh, new start and they screwed up... still can't believe this happened!

I don't think he is just a copy cat anymore. A copy cat needs to have something to copy. When I listened to his original stuff, that came from him not Perry, and its damn good stuff. Sure, he has the Perry voice quality and influence, but I'm not gonna kill a guy for being influenced by the very best, why should I?

Besides, do we crucify guitar players when they copy each others tones and licks? There is no true original in a vacuum. Everyone has an influence. Look at how all the grunge and modern rock singers sound exactly alike. If you like that sound, I guess its ok.

Perry isnt just an original, he is the creator of a genre. That genre should live on. Not many people are talented enough to fit the genre is the real problem.

Still I think it would be wiser for Journey to close the Perry chapter and move on into a new, fresh era... with Jeff!
Nevertheless it does surprise me Jeremey never sung in a better band than Frontiers... or did he? I don't know the man's history. Does he have a site?

Jeremey isn't trying to cover Perry, that is his natural voice. I have heard him sing many different things over the years, and the Perry inflections and tones are there whether he likes it or not. He's just singing like Jeremey!

So true. Even when he sings non-Perry he sounds like Perry. Heck, I have Perry inflections when I sing. I listen to him all the time, so it's no surprise.

How many people sound like Kurt Cobain or Scott Stapp or how many do Mariah Carey's melisma (runs)? Do we crucify them too?

Yes Jeremey's song is killer. Ever hear JSS's catalog? Tons of material!

Stepping out into uncharted ground but wanted to weigh in.

BOTH of these people are highly talented. One got fucked over HUGE. Great direction they had going too. All you American Idol fans, imagine Jeff on there with his stage presence? Total fucking home run - chance for a break out. (Still hate that show THOUGH)

Now if Jeremey can live out a dream - I will be very happy for him. I really like the guys in Frontiers. We saw them awhile ago and my wife was sick and they let her crash backstage in the club where there was a couch. Otherwise I'd have missed the show.

Jeff Scott Soto? Total class act. The best. Not getting into it all, but just a great guy and a talented performer. Journey screwed up and fucked up. Still have trouble digesting it and will never forgive Friga and Schon. He earned that job and cared about the Journey legacy more than they did.
