It's Chalfant...

Or it's a joke.... if they get a tribute guy singer they'll *never* get out from under the stigma of that.

I listened to Chalfant's stuff... his voice is the right kind to pull it off but original enough he's not a clone.

I never thought Soto had the right voice from day 1 by the way coming after Perry and Augeri.

Obviously a trend at that point... too late to switch gears.

it's already a joke, with or without Chalfant.

Well, yes and no... if you accept that they're a nostalgia act it's not quite as bad.

They can always just say Soto wasn't the right guy. I could have told them that from day #1. They're a nostalgia act... have been for years.... most of theirs peers are also.

That's just the way it is... those that think it's going to be 1983 all over again are kidding themselves. That ship has sailed... with our without Perry it will never reach those heights again.

Chalfant just did a Journey tribute album. He's sung Journey songs in concert many times. He's almost as much of a tribute singer as any of the others.

Fact is, most of the fans outside the core figure they're the band with a tribute singer on the nostalgia circuit anyhow... by now. Here it is becoming into fruition.

That's the thing. The general populace isn't going to know or give a crap. Some woman I used to date actually thought Augieri was Perry in '99...and she had all the records! I mean, he wasn't even CLOSE! I said, "yeah, he stopped the aging process at age 36, grew four inches, got a new perm, and took dance lessons from Trent Guroski." She didn't get it, but...

I think Chalfant's voice is better geared towards Survivor (can I say Survivor here without getting sued?) than Journey. He sounds very similar to Jamison in my opinion, and no that's not an insult. Hell of a vocalist, but just not my favorite tunes.

I love Chalfants voice, I think it would be a helluva addition. Jeremey or Chalfant, they could do no wrong if they want a Perry soundalike I suppose.

No tribute singers. Tribute is fine, but this is SUPPOSED to be the real deal.

I originally said Perry, Augeri, Soto or Castronovo.....or retire, but I may accept Mickey Thomas

Chalfant's voice is very overrated on this board.

So you honestly think they are going to replace JSS with a tribute band singer? Get real people. JSS has the following, stage presence and talent to take Journey to new heights, Steve Perry has got to be the only reason this has happened. The only other reason is if JSS quit, but this is obviously NOT the case.

No, Perry isn't the reason why this happened. It is totally Frick and Frack's doing. Do you really think Perry would want to come back to a band that has no morals? Back to a band that didn't really think about the Journey legacy until now? Perry wouldn't touch them now. Frick and Frack probably didn't want to go into a new direction. It would mean WORK ! Actually working on new product. Now all they want to do is ride the Greatest Hits.........

Journey should retire.

Why do we all assume it is Frick and Frack? Dean and Ross aren't part of the band?

Have we forgotten that Steve Perry fired Ross and Steve Smith for Raised on the Radio, but they still came back for Trial by Fire.

It can happen. If the Police can pull it off, any band can. Just my opnion of course.

Because Frick and Frack have been making all the decisions since Perry left. Deen and Ross are simply yes men. They will go with any decision that Frick and Frack make. I take it you are not up to speed on past or current Journey history.

Raised on the Radio?
Yeah Smith and Ross came back. Know why? ---> $$$$$$$

And what does Smith and Ross leaving the band 20 years ago even have to do with JSS or what's going on now?
Of course Deen and Ross are going to agree with what Frig and Neal are up to. They aren't looking to lose their gig.

There are three possible singers that I would support:
Perry
Soto
Chalfant
Knowing that Perry wouldn't lower himself enough to come back, and if I were JSS and Neal called and said that it was all a terrible mistake, I still wouldn't do it. That leaves Chalfant, who from my understanding, has always kind of been waiting in the wings, but would he take the chance? I kind of doubt it under the circumstances.

I am very up to speed (more than you know) on current and past history. I also know that they take band votes on serious issues. Everyone is ASSUMING that JSS is a victum, but haven't heard JSS's side to confirm or deny that he is. If he is a victum of anything, it will be bad timing and disappointment that the ride for him is over due to Perry coming back.

They didn't need to fire JSS to do greatest hits tours, they all work hard. It's not about that I assure you.

The problem is...someone here asked JSS directly if Steve Perry came back what his reaction would be. He said that he would gracefully step aside - no quams. He would have been very graceful, respectful and understanding if Perry came back and I don't think it would have turned out like this at all.

I really think JSS spooked the boys with his stage presence, his interraction with the fans, and desire to take Journey to the next level.
