A MAJOR label was interested in signing Journey w/JSS?

What label might that be?

Maybe Universal? That was one Neal Schon was dropping out there when they had label offers for Gens.

They're interested, alright....in Jeff. Why else would they be so eager to sign an already established band that's been recording and touring for quite some time now? He made the Journey sound distinct and new again. Chalk this up to another What Might've Been.

Really? No disrespect to JSS but he hasn't ever been a hot property in the eyes of major labels. It's crazy but there it is....

No but perhaps the combination of JSS & Journey did generate SOME interest.

I'd need a huge amount of pursuading before I'm ready to believe this rumour....

Sometimes all it takes is a random flash of exposure.
The major labels can be a roulette game sometimes.

If a major label was genuinely prepared to pump money into Cain and Schon's bank accounts you can be sure JSS would still be in the band.

Yes - and had they recorded an amazing demo then who knows what could have happened?

Oh yeah, I can agree with that. But then again its hard to say what goes on behind closed doors.
File one more thing under stuff we'll never know the whole story on.

Not necessarily. These guys have made dumb mistakes before. Besides that, a major label signing doesn't necessarily mean the label will use their big bucks to do a lot of promotion for you. If that were the case, the only real advantage you'd have with a major lable is easier distribution.

Discs shopped to Billboard... decent radio play... an awesome tour.

Happy fans.

Agree it's no dis on Jeff to say that the combination of Journey and HIM had the labels intrigued. But to say "it was ALL because of JSS..."...............mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. :|

They had an array of labels for Generations, too.

Not nessecarily, Matty.
A major Label opportunity coud've been a
'negative' in the eyes of Schon and Cain...

Face it, these guys are getting older and lazier.
Maybe they didn't warm up to the prospect of
all the self-promotion and extra work that would be required
of them if they went a Major Label route, i.e. More TV/Radio appearances,
tons of extra press/interviews, writing and recording 20-30 new tracks to get
10-12 solid album cuts, trying to tour behind a new album and
actually playing half of that new album on tour...
It'd essentially be like starting over for these geezers since they've
been set in their ways for the past 10 years fo "doing their own thing".

Why go that extra mile when you can take the easy way out, make big $$$
on the touring circuit by sticking to the GHs and DD sets year after year???
It's pretty sad, especially when they had a lot of us fans believing that
they were still hungry for more...

It's a great scenario - but there is the nagging reality of "Winds of Freedom". This song barely attracted a handful of posts on a die-hards message-board after Journey played it. I remember I had to bump up the link to get a conversation going about it.

I hate to say it but if new material got the tumbleweed treatment on MR I can only imagine the indifference out there in the real world.

And before the excuses start up...yes I know it was primarily a Cain song and he wrote it in a hurry and it was for a special occasion...but nonetheless there was no sign of any creative spark and we all knew it.

You're dead on right here. Poor guy over at AAO has been waitin on Jon to pick out his next single for two months.
Complains when he doesn't have work, then when is asked to do a little work he bitches because he can't rest.

Dead on, they're old, lazy, and set in their ways. They want the world on their terms. So it seems.

Well, you said an amazing demo, so I was just imagining in my head some unborn amazing track.
Winds of Freedom was kind of a novelty song. :P

CH - if they still have the energy to tour relentlessly they can easily manage a few interviews. Cain is always ready to speak to the media anyway...

Also - with major label backing and the additional publicity wouldn't the tour generate even more money?

You're not an idiot. I'd never heard of them either.

They're Jon's solo indie label. AAO Music/Reality. They run his myspace and handle that shiteous solo turd he put out.

Ok, fine. I'll buy the interview portion...
but again, it looks like they don't want to put the effort in to do
anything else above-and-beyond, like write enuff solid material for a new album...
I think they were affraid, or even knew, that Jeff's ambitions and drive
were too much for them; they knew they wouldn't be able to keep up with
his "way of doing business" and his work-horse menality.

I'm trying to remember all my takes....

Well, so far I've said that I don't believe that Augeri was innocent or victimized during Tapegate....that Journey are returning to the stategy then started in '98....and that I doubt Cain and Schon were offered a lucrative deal by a major label. Seems pretty realistic to me...

The trouble is Deano...your take on the truth is entirely connected to where your emotions lie...and your emotions shift around all over the place.

First Neal was a villain during Tapegate...then he was blameless and a great guy as well...and now he was a villain all along. Let's see what you're saying in three months time. Chances are you'll side with Schon again, I reckon. But we'll see.

I've no ideal who the label was for the previous lineup, but the new label for the new lineup, yet to be confirmed (as you all know) is this one:

Is it possible that Cain thought that JSS's material wasn't good enough? Everyone is portraying Cain as a green-eyed monster...but let's not forget who the multi-platinum song-writer is in this scenario.

You're right. I just make up shit as I go. Rich Meyers is saying precisely the same thing on his blog. However, he won't allow posters...only his view point. He has a rude awakening coming. He is accusing me of doctoring tapes to get Augeri fired. He should hear the voicemails from Neal that I have. He should also know SA has admitted to a small group of people that he did use tapes. Yet Rich won't believe it because Journey officially didn't say it.

I was talking about this thread in particular but wth?

They were all wrong in TG, period.

I warmed to Neal because we had the band back on the tracks and plus I got inside the circle...Loved it. Who wouldn't?

My emotions? Am I friends with Jeff? You bet I am. Proud of it too. However, if Jeff ever lipped, I would be on his ass too, and he knows it.

Let me sum this up. I am pissed not at the band for firing him. Stupid decision? Yes. However, if they would have just told him that he wasn't right, and give a reason, I would be fine with that and so would Jeff. That's all he wants to know.

There, I said it.

Brilliant! Another festering turd to add to the fine stable of Mall-eoke acts. Wonder if Tiffany is available for an appearance? Better act fast. The holidays will be here soon enough and they could very well get bumped out of a gig by Santa.
