Journey Featuring Steve Perry

You heard it first on this post and a year or so from now you will look back on this post and reflect.

This is what I believe to be happening:

1. Journey website is being redesigned to include Steve Perry
2. Journey is signing with a major label with Steve Perry
3. Journey is taking the year off to write new music and record with Steve Perry
4. Sometime in 2008 you will see a new Journey record with Steve Perry, tour summer of 2008 or 2009 (get tickets early as we all know how these things can go)

I know many many people will not believe any of this will happen, but before you decide for yourself know that Steve Perry has and can still sing, he has been working with vocal coaches and has been much more active in public. Factor that in along with the Sopranos exposure (notice they used Perry's picture) in the press and they did not call him the "former" lead singer of Journey.

Additionally, it is my feeling that this and only this event could have led to JSS's departure. Without Perry in the picture, JSS was the BEST hope for the band and a new direction. I saw them live with JSS and was blown away just as everyone else was. That said, there is no need for a new direction if Perry is to work again.

I'll lose any respect I have left for Perry IF this were true. A year from now, you can look back on this post and read my words. "YOU'RE WRONG!"

You know what? I cannot say this has not crossed my mind, although only briefly. Andrew, Deano, and those in the know say no. I also noticed something Perry said about DSB being used in the Sopranos. Don't know if anyone caught it, and it may not mean anything. But it was something along the lines of me and the guys don't agree on everything (talking about DSB being used), but we were able to SHAKE HANDS on this one. I wondered, there again briefly, if he meant literally. I do agree that is the ONLY way this would make sense.

Perry isn't coming back, folks! Honestly, Perry coming back wouldn't even make any sense. I think Perry is acutely aware of the fact that he is considered a legendary voice by so many. I also don't think Perry can sing to the level he once did. He has always been a man of immense pride and perfection. If he were to come back and simply not have it, his legend would be forever tarnished (in his mind). I think it makes much more sense for Perry to sit on the sidelines and cash the checks, while everyone else speculates as to whether or not he should dust the cobwebs off of the vocal chords! This is the first of what will probably be many posts, speculating on Perry coming back to Journey. It will all come to an end as soon as Journey announces their next lead singer of the month!

Hey John. I am CERTAINLY not predicting it to happen. I'm just saying trying to make SOME sense of what has happened, that would be the only way this could be even slightly justified and worthwhile, although still not completely IMO.

So what? His voice would still be good John, doesn't have to be the level it once was. Why do people keep predicting his range? it doesn't matter.

Figure of speech meaning they agreed on the use of the song. Doesn't mean they were ever in the same room together. Kinda like a virtual handshake.

That is what I figured. I just noticed that as I read the article. And, in lieu of everything else going on, I was like, hmmmmmm.

It's one thing I can definitely say about the music business, and that is, you can't always predict what's going to happen. As long as these guys are all still alive and in decent healthy, there is always a chance no matter what they may tell the cameras. With that said, I think it's a very long shot, but who knows. It would do a certain amount of damage control with the fans, but I'm sure regardless, there will still be fans who will have said good riddance to Journey.

It may not have to "be the level it once was", to you, but that really wasn't my point! I think most Journey fans would be FUCKING ELATED if it were ever announced Perry was rejoining Journey. These guys would make more money than they could ever spend! They could call the U.S. Mint, and start printing very large bills!

My point was and is that I believe. in Perry's mind, he would have to perform at the same level, or somehow feel like he was letting himself and his fans down! I still say there is a less than zero chance that you'll EVER see Perry perform as a member of Journey again!

Of course on the flipside of that, if Steve Perry performs without the J-Band, he'd still be expected to sing some of those tunes in concert. So the question still remains, will we ever hear Perry perform live again? With or Without Frig and Frag?

Exactly what I was going to say. Figure of speech. Doesn't mean dick. As for the press not referring to him as the former lead singer (uh, and some of them HAVE, actually), well, duh - the press never get it right to start with. Not only that but in one of those interviews Perry (as he always does) made a specific point of DISassociating himself with the band by teling them to print that he hasn't been with them since 1998. Cuz that's what people do when they're about to make a comeback right?

None of this seems far-fetched to me in the slightest. I mentioned in another post that Jon and Neal sound awfully confident -- even cocky -- in Journey's own press release: Neal even uses a pun in an effort to inject levity onto the news of Jeff's dismisal. From reaction on these boards in the past week, I hardly need to underscore how bizzare that would be unless you've got the ultimate Ace up your sleeve: a few years ago, even a Journey/Perry reunion would have seemed more likely to people in the biz than the Cream reunion, and yet Cream played together again (however briefly).

I also have noticed a certain public "thaw" on Steve P's side toward Neal in particular, and Journey in general. Maybe the DVDs and remasters were cathartic. Who's to say? Dismissing Jeff -- harsh as it was -- could have been one way for Journey to show some "good faith" to Steve and might be an intermediate necessary step to "Open the Door" and build some much-needed trust by sending the message that Steve Perry, even after the past nine years, is STILL "the guy."

Regardless, this scenario is one of the simpler explanations for otherwise strange signals out of the Journey camp and also happens to be TOTALLY consistent with everything Journey's said in public so far. Ockham's Razor, you know...

Don't know if Perry would come back..... BUT.......
Let's be honest, it's not as if his solo cds are flying off the record shelves either!
I wonder how many copies he sold of his remastered solo cds... Does anyone know?
I'm sure it's no where near 100,000 copies.
So it would be a great cashcow for all involved for a reunion tour.. BUT.....
Does PERRY have the pipes for it..
Plus i get the feeling he held on to his money better than the F TWINS..

Truly a ridiculous post. Classlessly firing a guy you called a FRIEND only sent a "message" to Steve Perry that these guys are still assholes. Perry knows he's "still the guy." He certainly doesn't need those two ass-clowns to reinforce that by sticking a knife in a friend's back. And the only thing up Neal's sleeve are divorce papers. If Friga has anything up his sleeve I would suspect it would be Playgirl.

I would hope Perry wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole, especially if he has read/heard about the conduct of his ex-band mates. I think I'd actually lose a little respect for him if he did. Can't see it happening.....if he didn't want anything to do with them before this, I'm betting he doesn't even more so now.
