Might get toned down out of respect to the good people that own this site. However we won't forget what happened. You might move on and make a few bucks, but you alienated the hardcores twice in a year. First you charged us for a fraud. We'll never know it all, but you discharged a guy who made you money for 8 years and you alienated one portion of the fanbase with his dismissal. I wish Steve Augeri well and look forward to any future recording or show. Sorry for anything I said about you Steve, I liked the stuff you did overall. Good luck.

THEN, after the debacle, you guys at least make a perfect decision and get Jeff. One of the hardest working dudes in the business. You cultivate your fan base, and it was easy to buy in. The guy flat out delivered. Your mistake was that JSS is not some puppet you can control. He is established and well respected in the recording industry. He has a loyal fan base. Discarding him the way you did, for no good reason has cost you more than you realize. Sure, you may still get those summer paychecks. But your chance of headling like you did for a bit is over. If the Classic Rock Main Event Tour happened today - you'd now be the opening act.

Anyone can make it in country music because none of them actually have to write their own songs or play an instrument well. A few do, but if you have writers block? No biggie...there's a million generic professional songwriters in Nashville willing to do your work for you, and even more studio musicians to make you sound exactly like every other record out there.


Yes, there's always exceptions...but shouldn't the talented musicians and songwriters be the norm and not the exception?

ill give ya the point that the star dont have to do much,, but those studio cats.. THAT is pressure,, i cant even imagine a dude saying.. "ok ,, lets do this in F#.. a 1,8,4 .. then the chorus,, first take ok boys"..................now the drummer,, well that cat has it easy..

I disagree. No one has figured how to outsource or offshore Nashville.......yet.

If anything, the state of the art is advanced on these shores and then exported in bits and pieces as other cultures adopt style and technique /methodologies i.e. Hollywood's influence on Bollywood.

Agreed 100%. In between bands, I've frequented karaoke bars, and after (almost) nailing "I Can't Drive 55", the yahoos go nuts over some off-key, caterwauling F-350 driving "sanitation engineer". Happens every time.

100% agree with this statement. I'm not a prolific poster here as my posting tally shows, but I'm regular reader and I've developed my favourite posters over the year I've been here. People who, when I see their names up on the board as the starter or last poster of a thread, I will automatically click on that thread first to see what they have to say.

I suppose it's comparable to a TV serial where you have your favourite characters. You don't know them but you still feel quite involved with them. And if their plotline takes them in a direction you don't like, you can feel quite disgruntled. In the same way I am very disappointed to find that some of my favourite posters here are showing a complete lack of regard for Journey's behaviour. Brushing it off as though "Oh well, that's showbusiness. Bring on the next singer".

It's made me see them in a completely new and less favourable light.

I don't see anybody brushing this off or making light of it Joybringer. What I see is some people who are a little more realistic in there expressions of disappointment and disgust.

Everyone of us on this board could say we're through with Journey, like I did about 10 yrs ago when they fired Steve Perry. I meant it when I said it then too, but I'm still here. So are a lot of other people who have said the same thing for various reasons over the years.

I still cared enough to start reading messageboards, then posting on messageboards, I eventually let Dean talk me into listening to all of Arrival and Generations. I admitted that there was some stuff on there that I liked.

Then tapegate came about and a lot of people swore off of Journey, or at least swore off of BT in protest. So, lo and behold, a new messageboard sprang up out of it and many Journey fans who hadn't been posting for years took up residence there. So in effect, the internet fanbase actually grew because of tapegate while people were swearing they were through with Journey.

As long as we're still reading and posting on this board we're not through with Journey dispite what we may say to the contrary. And you know what? If Andrew were to close this board so we wouldn't be posting on a Journey board, we'd all be posting on the JSS board talking about Journey or on the TJF that has now reopened in light of this.

Oh, BTW, I also said at one time when I was all indignant about them hiring Augeri that I'd be disgusted and ashamed of Steve Perry if he were even to appear with them anywhere again. I ate those words with the WOF appearance.

Now saying you'll never spend any money on them again on CDs or tickets is another thing. I said I'd never buy anything that Augeri was involved in and never attend a concert with him singing and I didn't. That's doable. But being through with Journey is another thing.

I could spout off all full of righteous indignation and say I'd never listen to them again, but the only way I would be able to keep that promise is if I knew nothing about what they were doing. The only way that would happen is if I stayed away from the messageboards. I know I won't do that as long as I have a computer though. My curiosity would get the better of me and I'd make a liar of myself.

yeah me too...I just can't and will not follow them down the copycat/tribute singer route....but then again, after the classless way they jetisoned JSS, I won't be following them to the next stations stop anyway
