Jason Newsted joining Metallica

Tim "Ripper" Owens joining Judas Priest

Jeremey Hunsicker with Journey?

Newsted and Ripper worked out awesome...both had a lot of success with each band.

Jeremey and Journey...Only time will tell...

Anyone else have any examples of fans joining their favorite bands?

profitable for the band. saved their asses bigtime, even they admit that. Unfortunately in this day and age, I guess saving the asses of someone or ones, isn't something that saves your job. Perhaps the biggest fuckup in recent years, by anyone in th music industry.

Well the thing is, and I'm sure a lot of people would agree, if they had kept Jeff, it would have been hugely successful.

I agree totally, it would have been AWESOME. My point was, it didn't turn out as a success (as it should of) and I have a feeling that Jeremey could be in for the same problem because of the other individuals that are involved.

The guy with Metallica is no longer with them.
He was probably downloading their albums and got fired.
I HATE that drummer in that band. Biggest dork I've ever seen.
Whiny little bastard who loves to hear himself talk.
Nevermind that fans sharing boot tapes MADE that band.
Metallica- barf.
Sorry, just hate Lars.

DING! DING! DING!
And that's not putting Jeremey down, it's just commone sense at this point. With how people feel right now and what results have been, even though it might seem like a dream right now, it will end up a nightmare. He will back here in a few months, if that, saying shit, what did I do!
What is sooooooooooo different this time is that the prove has already happened! Anyone who is considering grabbing this gig right now, can see what is going on RIGHT NOW!
It's already been written.

Heck, both examples resulted in leaving/getting fired. Guess that doesn't really bode well for "fans" becoming band memebers period. But, at least in Tim's case, I believe he was given a reason & I can't remember exactly how Jason ended up out of Metallica.... Pretty funny if both those METAL bands treated their ousted bandmates with more respect than a warm and fuzzy band like Journey has.

Part of the reason was James' dislike of Jason's side projects. Yet James did some stuff out of the band, for his C.O.C. buddies and added some vocals to a song from the South Park movie. Jason has said that he always felt like the new guy and that they always reminded him that he was not as good a player as Cliff. My memory is hazy as to where I read that stuff. I also recall reading something that said Jason was always dealing with an endless stream of hazing by the guys.

Oh well, Jasonic is in a much better band now (IMO).

Was he fired or did he quit though? That's that part I don't remember.... the rest of it was helpful however - never heard much about the internal stuff that was involved with that whole situation.

Jason left Metallica because he couldn't put up with the band shitting on him any longer... he was with the band from 1986 - 2001.... 14 years...

All hate for Schon and Cain aside... As much as folks might view the possibility of Jeremey joining Journey as "stooping", IMO it really is no different than the original post in this thread....

Collectively they (band and mgmt) want a perry-esque voice to sing the songs... I tend to think that the results song-wise would be pretty amazing, given Jeremey and Deens singing abilities... and its not a stretch to think JC and NS would be fairly excited about the possibilities of writing for that voice too..

It all starts with the music... and what their vision for their music is... and as fucked up as these circumstances are... I can't fault them for trying to do right by it... even if they've gone about it in a completely idiotic fashion...
