We the fans should issue a press release

Postby joybringer1 » Fri Jun 22, 2007 2:13 am

I've been doing a marketing course recently and it says that it's easier than people think to get in the papers because every day they're looking for interesting stuff to fill the pages. Well with all the buzz around Don't Stop Believin at the moment - how about a press release headed "Journey Fans Stop Believin" with the story about the disgraceful way Jeff was ditched and the uproar it's caused among the fans. If a few of you live close enough together you could arrange a ceremonial shredding of Journey merchandise. Over the Journey star on the Walk of Fame would be a good spot. The press release would go out with plenty of notice to enable a photographer to be there - maybe even a TV film crew.

I mean, if 3 or 4 of you live close enough together you could rope in friends and neighbours to make a crowd of 20-30 people. The press don't care how many are there, to them it's just a good story.

Now's the perfect time to do it while the song is so hot.

We'll never get the true scoop from the Journey camp on what happened here.

Heck, I'm still waiting for that statement from the band I was promised about the whole lip synching affair. I almost got booted from BT for asking about it on more than one occasion and was told by CJ that they would be releasing a statement. Obviously, that never happened.

You're not getting it people. WE should issue a press release. THE FANS. Telling the world how angry we are and announcing the ceremonial memorabilia shredding. Nothing to do with Journey. The press wouldn't have been interested a month ago but now they will. Deano needs to be spokesman, of course. That goes without saying.

Or we could take out a national add in USA Today. Its an easy reader for Fro and Friga and better coverage.

This forum in some ways IS a press release so to speak, though not in a traditional sense, I understand.
If anybody in Journey's camp has any ounce of brains (this is debatable at this point), they're aware of the backlash their behavior has caused. What cowards though, to take BT offline--the parting shot in their fans' backs.

Fans releasing a Press Release and whining about what a Rock Band has done to wrong them.
Funny...

This is kind of like the neighbor who calls the cops because she's been looking out the window at the kids playing in the street.
I think if Journey wants to change as a whole ... they have that right.
We people who buy tix, buy cd's, and $40 T-shirts... well on the outside looking into the fish tank... we vote with our wallets... if we like what they do... we buy. If we don't like what they do... well there are other things to do in life.

No amount of standing outside of the Hollywood Bowl with a sign saying Journey wronged me by changing lead singers... is going to bring back what was.
I would actually find it funny to see such a thing. And if you elect to do that... please post pictures here in the forums... because that would be just downright funny!

Here's my thought on the subject:
Move on...
They have!
Ha Ha!! Yeah Right... as if the fanbase has moved on ... they still scream for Steve Perry.
It's pretty funny... fans at some of the shows I've gone to over the years that bought tix thinking Perry was going to be there and being disappointed to the point of walking out or booing the other singers... oh the humanity!

By all means if you like Augeri... support him.
As well as Jeff Scott Soto... support the guy ... because he is talented, he is an awesome singer and he is fun to see and you like what he offers us in entertainment.

In my opinion Journey has always been a fun concert to go to ... the music is usually always great that they produce or record.
If it isn't fun and they suck then I won't participate. If they put on a good show or change the name to JRNY or whatever featuring whatever lead singer and Neal, Ross and Jon along with Deen or who knows who else... the show would still be fun. Heck... if they had Deen's son and Neal's son come out and do a few songs... hell that would be fun! Personally, as I sit here and ponder what was, what could've been and what is coming... I'm sure it will be interesting and it will give us all something to talk about.

Times are sometimes turbulent in families and in Rock bands... Journey has just been a wild ride this past decade with changes. One thing is for sure they aren't getting any younger they have a Legacy that they put together when Steve Perry, Neal, Steve Smith, Ross and Jon set it in stone. That is when this band was at the top... that top spot is a spot that is very hard to get back to. Is it about getting back to a New Peak with this band or is it more about living to survive and support what they have on the legacy of Journey? Only time will tell.

I like the way Sammy Hagar has done things... he doesn't care about what was... he moves forward and when he stepped into VH he and that band went forth and put together some awesome stuff... and left the legacy behind and created another. This was what I thought was going to be the next step in Journey... however... now we just can wait and see.

Over the years as a fan of the music I've been happy with Journey... I just have to look past the other stuff that goes on behind the curtain.
The behind the curtain stuff is where we really aren't privy... and frankly is it "Really" any of our business what Neal is doing with his free time?
Not really... is it fun to hear and read about? I guess for some folks that are into celebrity controversy or whatever... personally I have way to much fun and things going on in my own life to give much thought or care for what a rock bands musicians are doing.

I guess each person just needs to find the hobby that interests them.
For some it is wallowing in whatever... As is the case with many of the users of Backtalk, MelodicRock, VH1, JourneyForums over the years... the sun will come up tomorrow and many of us will still have our hobby of typing on Journey forums and many will walk up and want something to bitch about... what a more excellant band to be a fan for if you love bitching about something? Journey sure provides the topics!!
Neal has told us in the past to get a life...
He is right... many of the forum users on the various forums really do need to... Bwahahaha
Some folks are so wrapped around the axle over the things of Journey that they seem to forget the things they have in the lives they lead. Which is quite sad.

Hey tomorrow is Friday... woo hoo!!
Now that is something to look forward to...
See you in the next thread!

All a press release or feature would do is give the remnants of Journey the oxygen of free publicity.

I think the fan press release is pretty cool. It will expose the band for the dicks they are and how they've screwed the fans over rather than just "oh, Steve Perry's not with them anymore?"

By the way Rockstar was cancelled. Thank God, that last band was a pile of shit and the singer they chose sucked horribly.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

But that wouldn't be a press release at all.
It'd be an opinion column, and might actually get buried as a 'letter to the editor'...whenever they stop laughing.
Good luck.

Well that is what power to the people means..after all that is why we developed a democracy in Britain in the 17th Century,so we could make our voices heard. Also the power of the pen can sometimes be mightier than the sword :D Spot on Idea in my book :D

People do this in the UK, it's popular as part of the whistle blowing technique when someone or something is wrongfully dealt with. The Tabloids in the UK welcome this stuff. :)

I'll be away most of the weekend but when I get back I'll draw up a draft press release if no one else has in the meantime and post it for comments. I'll leave out the part about the destroying the merchandise as it doesn't appear to have had enough backers to make it viable.

I think the Journey Fans Stop Believin plus the story of what has happened, appealingly written, should be sufficient to get it picked up because journalists are always looking for something to print and if it's written well enough it saves them the job of doing it themselves. Then we can think about posting it to various news wires, agencies if enough people are in agreement. It needs to be done pretty quickly though or it'll be too late.

Right Lenny, in the UK they'd be all over a story like this, wouldn't they. Pity Journey aren't enough of a deal here.

I don't live close enough to that many other fans and I'm not burning or shreading my Journey stuff anyway. It still means as much to me now as it did when I bought or traded for it. My feelings about the music and the way Perry and Jeff sang it haven't changed.
