I do.
I like the
"shades of forever" (or,
"forevah" ~ you KNOW he's singing LOL

)
But, what has always irked me is this:
The key is clearly TOO LOW for David Pack - he sounds like he's straining to sing that low.

Stellar effort from two of the great and successful voices of radio. The lyrics and styling have Perry's stamp all over it. I wanted him to sing MORE, but after all, it was Pack's CD.

I love the song and listen to it a lot but Steve's voice sounds a bit like it was run through a computer....if that makes any sense.

Just doesn't sound 100% authentic to me. But I don't know shit about the recording process. Anyone know what the hell I'm talking about?

Listening to it now...
Don't agree at all...Just sounds like he's going for a quieter, more intimate vocal, similar to Lou Gramm's performance on "With Heaven on Our Side". It took me a while to get used to Gramm's voice on that tune but now I love it and I like "A Brand New Start".

love it love it
Timothy B. Schmidt (Poco/Eagles) contributes to the b/g vocals ....... he was always my second fave to Perry ....

Here's a picture of them.

Listening to it right now. Thanks for the reminder. I love it. Damn it's great to hear Steve's voice come through loud and clear on here. How can anyone hear this and doubt that he can still sing?

Carol, maybe it's time we all used some reverse psychology on ole Steve. Let's all act like we couldn't care less, and that might make him want to record something. As long as people are fawning over him and the chatter of him is abundant, he's satisfied. Or am I just out to lunch? lol

Rick, who the hell knows where Steve is concerned...why does he even care what the fans think? or Know? It is beyond me why he still stays in touch every once in awhile...He's been gone for so long and is presumably retired(?) so why even bother with us...????????maybe he just likes adulation? needs the comments and applause so to speak. Rock stars are a different breed of people, except JSS of course, who is just like the rest of us...NORMAL...

I think Steve Perry needs to hear that himself. My feeling is he's torn. He wants to sing and perform, but the perfectionist in him isn't satisfied with what his own voice is giving him. Must be tormenting.

Yeah, must be killing him as he sits watching baseball games and raking in royalties (well deserved).

You're assuming it's just about money for him. Perry's a creative person. An artist. Being an artist isn't something you do, it's something you are. He might be comfortable, but that doesn't mean he's satisfied. There's a difference.

Someone here said that Perry sounds fine, not much different than FTLOSM days. Then why isn't he singing?
I am sure Perry is doing everything he WANTS to do these days. Singing in a band, touring the country, is not something he wants to do. He has already done that. I would feel the same way if I was pushing 60. I am glad he is doing what he wants. I just don't get all of the whining from people trying to convince him to rejoin Journey. There is a limit to how much music an artist can give us. Just be happy with what he already has given us.

Yes, I bought the song off iTunes, then bought the CD - love it all! I've always liked DP's voice (Ambrosia). Also, went to see him playing at a club (no sign of SP there, I was hoping.
First thing I noticed about "A Brand New Start" was the similarity in lyrics to "Little Girl"...I don't have them handy right now, but there are certain words...and, I wonder if there is something about the prevalence of the word BLUE in most of his songs. Kinda like a good luck charm or signature? Or maybe just coincidence.

I think you hit the nail on the head here.
The only critic that matters to SP is SP himself. Unless he's fully satisfied with the product, there's no need in his mind to release it.
I just wish he knew that he's called The Voice, because of his voice, not the notes he hits. He can hold ANY note, unlike any other.
Example: Just take a listen Brand New Start...at the bridge where he echos David Pack...
---Just like me
---Run away
---Words I need to say (shit, how he holds and delivers the word 'say')
There's only a handful of vocalist that can make my spine shiver like that.

I absolutely LOVE this song!!!
And while I think he sounds great.......I think it's a big leap from singing a few background vocals to say he can still sing enough to do a whole CD much less a tour or something of that nature.
But listening to that song sure made me miss hearing him.

Great song! I managed to get a promotional copy of this CD in June '05 when we saw David perform here in NY...I think Steve sounds very good on this song. David is an amazing singer as well, an extremely nice guy. The two of them sounded great on this song.

My thoughts
EXACTLY. Has this guy ever stricken anyone here as the type of guy who goes around doing things because
others want him to? Not me. If that were the case we'd be trading TBF bootlegs. If he really and truly wanted to do any of that agian, he would, and if he wants to be heard from, you'll hear from him.

I saw him sing it live...there was no strain.
