A Plea to Steve Perry

and to anyone in the know who can pass it onto him (Lora):

Steve,

I know you issued a statement saying there was no validity to the rumor that you would be rejoining Journey. BUT, many of us who have supported you and Journey for decades feel that without your help, the legacy you helped secure for the band will be washed away, never mind just "cracked". I beg you......knowing you owe nobody anything.....to rejoin Journey. Monster album, tour, media appearances, story tellers, etc. Save this ship........again. We'll repay you with ticket and album money of course, but more importantly our soulful cheers. Unite the fanbase, save the legacy and go out on top. We don't expect you to sound perfect on every show for every note - we just want you to lead this band out of the swamp. We have seen the Escape show on DVD and yearn to see you guys ride again.

Steve, YOU were right...and many of us were wrong about Journey moving on without you, if this is how they are going to choose continue. I know you didn't begin the Journey with the band, but we would sure love if you would think about ending it with them!

Together, you can again annoy the critics (HAH HAH) and inspire your fans. We have not stopped believin' Steve.

THIS, on the heels of the Sopranos, is the perfect time for a reunion.

I am very sorry to annoy you....and I respect your chosen life......but please just give it a second or two of consideration.

Signed.....
One of many distressed Journey fans

At first I thought this post said Pee on Steve Perry and I was gonna get pissed, but rereading it I see it says Plea.

I think this is the first casualty of the statement, it has sent a loyal fan to desperate and mental breakdown, you should send frig AND FRO your medical bills.

better yet, find all the proper email addys to big wig execs and we will all send emails.

A well-written plea that I agree with completely.

Perry is the only one who could EVER hope of righting this ship. Without him, the others need to call it quits before they make a bigger joke out of this once great band than they already have.

I also agree that it COMPLETELY doesn't matter if he can't be 30-years old again. Who CARES? That wouldn't be the point anyway. It would be about seeing a Perry-fronted Journey onstage--ONE MORE TIME. That's all.

And I agree with a poster on another thread when talking about Perry's voice, in that it isn't ALL about just hitting the high notes. It's the expression and emotion he pours into his performances. What Was, as the other poster aptly noted, is a PERFECT example of a more seasoned Perry still putting himself wholly into his craft, and the result is stunning.

The last two Journey albums with Perry sucked. Hope he records as a solo artist, tho.

That would be me... 8)

tragchk's "steve perry comments" thread post wrote:What boggles MY mind, at least, about Steve's singing ability is this:

 He has TWO VOCAL STYLINGS / SOUNDS:

Pre and Post "Frontiers".

And they're both tremendous, in their own ways. 8)

Case in point: "Good Morning, Girl" and "What Was".

Heck, I'd LOVE to hear a CD of funky, catchy, and Ballad-style songs in the "What Was" sonic category.....

I respectfully disagree that the last two Perry/Journey albums sucked. Frontiers was incredible and if Only The Young and Ask The Lonely hadn't been pulled at the last second by idiots at Columbia/Sony it would have rivaled Escape (IMO).

ROR had some good tunes on it--Happy To Give is one of Steve's all-time best vocal performances. Overall, I think the album wasn't as strong as the others but it didn't suck.

I was referring to ROR and Trial By Fire. You must have missed that one.

I feel your pain Eric, but I don't want Steve to have to put up with the mess that F&F have made. He's earned the right to continue to hold himself about the fray.

You must have gotten confused NIG. ROR and TBF were great albums. Arrival and Generations were the substandard ones and that's because Perry wasn't part of them. Image

It's gotta' be tough for him. He's gotta' be feeling a bit like some would expect him to be what he used to be. That's big shoes for anyone to fill, even Steve Perry. Can you just imagine how he would be looked over with a fine toothe comb?
I think he is smart for so many reason to stay away from Journey and do his own thing. He's got it pretty good and can do whatever he wants on his terms.
Why would he go back, except for the fans, to being a part of something that is so messed up right now.

To many right now seems like a perfert time FOR THE FANS for him to return, but for him, it's the worse time. He's made his statement, but even before he did, I just thought if he hadn't done it by now, he sure as hell with what he is about join the trainwreck now!

While I understand where your heart is, in time it will be right.
I am so finally at a point where I now do not ever want DDY to join Styx ever again. Maybe I am lucky though because he is out there doing so much and enjoying an amazing solo career right now and involved in some amazing very high profile things right now. I also have prove that he can still sing a whole concert almost flawlessly. Maybe even better than before.
We don't really know for sure how Steve would do at a full show.
While Steve and Dennis both lived pretty healthy lifestyles, and that's what Dennis believes has kept his voice what it is today, he also knows it's that he never quit singing. Over the years, how much has Steve really been singing.

Great heartfelt post though. Again, I think if Steve had been giving you something over the years, that might have satisfied? Or is it all about wanting him back in Journey?

If he all of a sudden decided to do a small solo tour, I would want that more than him joining the wankers.

Now, if I could only say something like that without ranting on and on. :D , but hey, I am still bed ridden so what a time to have all the time in the world. Great words.

Huh?

Trial by Fire is a beautiful record. There's more to just playing fast you know. Easy to Fall is their best song IMO.

How blinkered can you possibly be - dismissing particularly Arrival because it didn't feature whoever? Dumb as fuck.

Not IMO. ROR is a great pop album, just not Journey. TBF is one big funeral dirge to me. MOL and ICSIIYE are the only two songs I like.

She may well have a pass but just stonewalling an ostensibly good album makes my hackles rise...
