Again, he won't close the door on certain things, but he certainly seems to be leaning toward not performing again. I'm really starting to like this enigmatic quality about him. But then again, I'm into pain. :)

At least, not performing Journey music again.

I love this.... 8)

"Lorraine Ali: Did you really keep it a secret for four long days?

Steve Perry: I swore not to tell anybody and I didn't. I was at a wedding and a friend of mine was just jacking me up for info. The only thing he got out of me was what song they were using. Then he was like, “Ah Ha!” And he starts coming up with all these scenarios: “That means . . .” I just said, “Stop, you'll never guess.” "

Poor guy....tryin' to get info out of "Mr. Fort Knox".

Are you a Hillary supporter?
When I vote, it's private. You pull the curtain and nobody needs to know how you voted. I've kept that pretty personal throughout my whole life..... It polarizes that song. Music should stay open and free and not be hijacked.
...

GOD BLESS YOU STEVE PERRY! I wish all rock stars felt this way!

Journey have been performing it with several singers since we parted ways in 1998. I could go out and do it myself if I wanted, but I won't. I want to protect the integrity of the songs, keep them the way they were when we were together. We were good together and what we did was good.

He's got to be so completely disgusted by what neal & jon have done to Journey.

Three...don't forget the version that Deen did. It's available as a club mix on I-Tunes.

Also, I gotta say...great interview. Mr. P handles his interviews with such class and eloquence. If the occasional interview like this is the most that we can get from him, I'm more than happy to accept it.

Oh, he's taking a shot here, no doubt. Well deserved, IMO.

Funny, he sang Journey songs on the FTLOSM tour. Why is he so concerned about the integrity now? Fill in your own answer.

Seems that he doesn't think that can sing them to some certain standard he has in mind. That's my best guess. The "integrity" he speaks of was certainly there on the FTLOSM tour. At least to my ears it was.

You've gone silent. Is that a painful memory?
I'd love to answer that question but I really shouldn't.

It erks me beyond when he says sheet like this.

Abso-frickin'-lutely it was there. I still think about the magic that I saw that night at the Tower Theater every time I drive by it.

I agree. It was great to hear those boots from the FTLOSM tour, but I felt like he was barely getting there on some of the songs, and they were down a half step. I think he wound up canceling some dates on that tour as well. I completely understand if he doesn't want to sing those songs if he can't do them justice. I hope he does something in the studio and releases it, but like has been said around here, they don't make much money from doing that, so would it be worth his effort?

The mystery, the mystique, the privateness, the seclusion, avasiveness, etc..is what makes him Steve Perry and makes us wanting more.

I'm real glad Perry is doing these interview, not only for the fact that we are getting to hear from him again, but the fans NEED to hear some "postives" about Journey, in light of all the negative stuff going on with Journey now.

Thanks for posting that. Just love how he thinks & speaks - he makes me proud...sure would be fun to have conversations with & the kind of person I could totally trust with any secrets.

This is good:

"Why?
I want to protect the integrity of the songs, keep them the way they were when we were together. We were good together and what we did was good. That's my timeline of the stuff that matters."

And, I'd like to thank Mr. Chase for choosing the song, placing it so prominently & giving that thrill to SP (and us, too, for getting to hear from SP.) :)

I saw FTLOSM and he sounded fine. The band was adequate, but not Journey. I took about 50 people that night and we were fairly close. Damn,to this day I wish I knew to bring flowers. People would just take them upfront and he would take them. My mother in law was really enjoying it. She was 86 at the time.

I'm sad about this. I think it means he'll never do these songs again. Does this mean he wont ever tour again then? Surely if he toured, he'd HAVE to do some Journey songs. This is about the most "final" I've ever heard him.

I'm also sad that he got quiet when the interviewer talking about American Idol & wouldnt answer that question. I think that spells out what went down about him being on AI & I guess that's something else we'll never see.

It's great to hear from him. What a great sense of humor he has.

Funny, I got just the opposite from that interview. That he takes things way too seriously.
