what is your favorite journey album and explain why......

i guess mine would be escape.a great album from start to finish.some great rockers and ballads on it.captured is also a great one to throw on and listen to in one sitting for a good recap on the rollie years.

Hmmmm.....I gotta say 'Generations'.......NOT!

Probably a tie between Departure and Evolution, with Evolution getting the ever so slight nod becasue of 'Daydream', my favorite Journey song this side of 'When I Think of You'.....

Those are my two favorites too. Same reasons. They are both great from start to finish. I'm more into the bootleg concerts lately. I've really been enjoying the Detroit '86 show, I also listen to the 81 Houston CD. Journey were the best live performers I've ever seen.

wow its a match between Raised On Radio (Remastered) and Departure (Remastered) for me..


I love the back and forth between vocals in Departure,
and i Love the lyrics and beats / perrys voice highs in Raised On Radio..

Well i love the lyrics in almost EVERY Journey SONG with Perry (and perry solo).. he's my fav song writer for sure (along with Jackson Browne), but those 2 CD's make me feel happier when i hear them than the others do. They got rockin songs that have great beats in not only the music but the way they sing them, then theres the soft slow songs, all with deep meanings.. to me.


Evolution gets my 3rd place vote - for a mix of why i love both Departure and Raised On Radio.

Infinity.

In my opinion their first album was their best.

That album was damn near PERFECT!!!

#2- Escape - AWESOME!!!!
#3 - Frontiers

All were INCREDIBLE, but I always seem to go back to Infinity.

evolution is probably my all time favorite besides escape.some amazing overlooked stuff on there.too late and sweet and simple are both very good underrated songs.majestic is a pretty good instrumental.daydream is another one that i always liked.rollie does a good job on just the same way.

It's gotta be the self-titled debut.

Perfectly-written and arranged progressive rock that captures my soul.

Those are two very different albums, no doubt. My first is Escape for sure. I do like a few tracks from Arrival also. Not bad picks at all.

Generations. Inexplicable aside frome the fact that I think it rocks the hardest, is the most diverse, and musically/sonically the most elaborate and complex. Neal's best guitars and Augeri's best vox.

Joe can I ask u a question please? Did u start as a Journey fan when Augeri joined? Or were u a Perry fan at any point?

He's a very confused man. Doesn't know that Augeri is out of the band yet.

This is a hard question to answer these days & it shouldnt be. I have to say Departure b/c it's the 1st one I bought & I still have it. I was totally mesmerized by the voice. I grabbed my dad who was totally cool & he went wild. He said that was a once in a lifetime voice & we'd never hear anything like that again. He was a huge Sam Cooke fan so he heard the similarities in styling right away even on a rock album. He got out his guitar & made me sing some of the songs. I said I couldn't get my voice into that range, but he told me to keep on trying. I used to perform w/him sometimes. It was so cute. He wanted us to do a Journey song together. I wasnt sure his "type" of audience would accept it. He died later that yr so we never got the chance.

Captured, that's the album that started my journey back in 1981, Evolution is a good second followed by Frontiers, I love the b-side of it, then all other albums follow close, the last spot is for Red13, although I still love it.

And although I dig Steve Smith, he is a drum god for sure, and I love his current jazz stuff big time... I love love loved the way Aynsley pounded those beats. He killed it.

all the steve smith albums with journey were good.not one bad one in all the years he was with them.i hated that he didn't do infinity.

It's funny. I think certain songs are slightly better suited to Aynsley & kinda miss his drumming on them. Even tho Smitty did a fantastic job on them when covered later. Aynsley was world class. But Smitty better suited all the work they did after that. Wish he'd been on ROR. I'd love to have heard him do those songs. Here u have a singer talking about drums. Damn. I rarely critique other instruments b/c I'm no expert by any means.

Frontiers I think it would be for me, helped me through some tough teenage years.
Troubled Child will always be close to my ticker.

E5C4P3 is their masterpiece. Frontiers is #2. Then Infinity, Evolution, Departure, Dream After Dream, ROR and TBF. Not including live albums, or else Captured would be at #3.

Became a huge fan in '92 with the advent of the boxset....
So it was basically all over by the time I figured out how great the band really is. And to be fair, I'm not a HUGE fan of Augeri's singing on either Arrival or Red13 (moreso 13 though).

"Frontiers" just barely edges out "Escape"...I love every song except "Back Talk" and the title track. Both tunes are still above average, though, in my opinion.

Escape. Creativity, energy/drive and musical integrity...all of the things what's left of this band does not have today.

Funny, Rubicon is one of the easiest Journey songs to play, but kicks so much ass.

the music is great to that tune but the lyrics are what hooked me on that one, especially "Live life and light the fuse". Used to use that as my sig.
