Guess I'm in for an old-fashioned ass-whooping on October the 6th. First-generation American parents, but raised in Europe, slightly Americanized British accent (educated in British schools until I attended University). I strongly advise you to not mess with 'Drew and the Aussies - the descendants of British convicts!

Actually, the French are a brilliant, vibrant, highly cultured people. Very interesting and dynamic...although they do come off as somewhat...oh, I don't know...arrogant, at times. As quickly as the French army surrendered to (and later assisted) the Germans, the Allies would not have won the war without the French Underground. The last time I was in France (summer of 1999), four or five twenty-something guys (none of them more than 5'8") accosted me outside a bar and demanded cigarettes. When I told them I didn't smoke and never had, they didn't understand...you know, the sixth burning finger...

At the minute I don't think there's much to make me feel proud about being American. Our biggest positive claim at the minute seems to be that we've convinced the world that human teeth should be glow in the dark white and bleached to hell and not their natural ivory color.
