A Steve Campaign

If I get accused of being a loon so be it. I posted this over at Perryville and Perry Palace too.

I know alot of us talk about how great it would be to see SP one more time, so that got me to thinking. There's a similar thread over at Perriville, which is funny because I had been thinking along the same lines; if something could be done to bring SP out one more tiime.

Here it goes.

Fans of Jericho, as part of their campaign to bring the show back, took out a full page ad in Variety. I propose this. That his fans collectectively pool their money together and take out a full page advertisement in a MAJOR NEWSPAPER. One that Steve is sure to read. The main idea would to be express how much we miss him, how much we appreciate him, and to show him that the music industry is a very dark lonely place without him. That his fans could care less if he hits the high notes. That he is more than the sum of an upper octave, Maybe, just maybe it will convince him to come back, just one more time.

I know there are some people who may think I have lost my marbles. That this idea is crazy. To them I say, those who have no imagination have no desire other than to toil in drudge. I think this could really work, and I am deadly serious about this. ANYONE?

I'm deadly serious about this. I assume one could set up a paypal account. Tomorrow, I'm checking on pricing. Someone over at Perryville mentioned that Steve supposedly reads the San Diego Union Tribune. Has anyone else heard this?

I usually try to stay out of these things, but because you are talking about people contributing money, I felt I needed to say something before this gets out of hand. Steve Perry does not feel unappreciated. He is well aware of the loyal and wonderful fans he has. The decision of whether or not he will sing/perform again is his alone to make. I would never presume to speak for him, but I also don't want to see people contributing money to something that is not going to achieve the results hoped for. I'm sure he would be flattered and humbled by the effort but that's as far as it would go.

You are free to do this if you want and I fully understand the thought and desire behind the effort, but I personally don't think it is money well spent.

It's funny though. In the music biz, no matter how many times the singer or band has retired (Rolling Stones, Ozzy, The Eagles...) they just keep coming back. So, it seems like a performer never actually retires. Steve Perry is the first, to me anyway, that has actually been the "most" retired out of any musician/singer I have ever followed.

You're not crazy, a lot of people want the same thing, including myself. Just one more record. I don't give a shit if he has to sing baritone, just one more record before it's too late. Find your avenue of posting the ad and get the price and post it on here, and see what happens. You may be surprised. If you don't get the necessary funding, then you can return the money to those that donated. It's worth a shot. There is no way he could ignore that. I'm damn sure in.

Hey Lora.

Glad to hear your thoughts on this. Maybe I should clarify by saying, if he decided to come back it would be icing on the cake. I wouldn't expect it or anything. And I wouldn't in any way, say, hey steve, sing or else. It was honestly just a thought to show our appreciation, but if it brought about the biggest concert of the year, HEY NOW! SCARYGIRLS SAVES THE WORLD.

And Lora thanks for the voice of reason.

Several years ago we did do a full page birthday message in the San Diego paper.

Mr. P has shared more of himself and his music with us in the past year than he has in a long time.
In his sightings he seems to be more comfortable in his skin.

How about a grass roots petition? This way there would be no money involved other than donated time. It might have a much bigger impact.

Just an idea...

I'm looking into two options. One is The Studio City Sun. It appears to be a major newspaper there. Reaches 20,OOO homes. The population according to the SC Chamber of Commerce is close to 40,000 homes, so the reach would be half the city.

If I'm reading the rate chart correctly, the rate for a 1 time full page color ad in the Studio City Edition only is $1449.

I don't know yet about San Diego. Hopefully, I will know more about that tomorrow. I checked the LA Times. It appears to be almost $11 grand? I could have misread it.

Will keep you posted..

I honestly don't believe this stunt will have the desired affect, but I like the idea of it.

Something to consider: you might think you have to take out an ad in Perry's home town for him to see it, but you probably don't have to go that far. If you were to take out a full page ad in any decently circulated paper or magazine, the media (offline and online) would pick up on it and carry the story. (you could even bring it to their attention. Can you say E! ?)

Even if Perry doesn't see the ad himself, someone he knows will hear about it and bring it to his attention. Hell, the media might even call him to interview him about it.

In the end, I still think it's an unrealistic venture. The man doesn't want to sing for a reason and just because we want him to sing isn't going to change his mind. He knows we want him to sing, so you're not telling him something he isn't already aware of. Like I said, he has his reasons (*cough* *cough* -artistic perfectionist who isn't happy with the sound of his own voice- *cough* *cough*).

Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Good luck with it, I hope you prove me wrong.

Who would be in charge of taking everyone's money, and how does anyone know that it ends up where it's supposed to be? Meaning... what if $500 is collected. How do we know that we got $500 worth in product? Sorry, scary girl, but I don't know you from Adam.

He's been undulated with emails from Fan Asylum. He knows his fans miss him. An ad placed anywhere isn't going to make any difference. Is this for him you do it, or yourself? Do as you wish, but the money is better spent elsewhere (in my opinion).

(yes.. I know. Wet blanket. Voice of Reason. Queen bitch of the universe. However you see fit to apply.)

He's been undulated with emails from Fan Asylum. He knows his fans miss him. An ad placed anywhere isn't going to make any difference. Is this for him you do it, or yourself? Do as you wish, but the money is better spent elsewhere (in my opinion).

I'll pass. He already knows.
