OT: There's a reason why Bon Jovi still fill arenas/stadiums

Postby Deb » Fri Jul 13, 2007 5:07 am

One of the best concerts I have been to in years, last night! They rocked the house! Richie's playing was on fire, Jon and Richie are tighter than ever no love lost there at all and both sounded great vocally. No sign of lipping either Dean.  Jon doesn't go for the real high vocals of years ago. Example was Runaway, which was fabulous..........but instead of the high vocals at the end, it turned into a guitar duet with Jon and Richie. It was Richie's birthday so everybody (15 to 20 thousand) sang Happy Birthday too him. After reading about it they mentioned coming a day or so earlier to check out the Calgary Stampede! They played about 5 or 6 new songs off of Lost Highway and IMO they come across much better LIVE than on the cd. 'We got it going on' didn't do much for me on first listen on the cd, but was definately a great rocker LIVE. 2 favorites of mine were Runaway and Saturday Night, haven't lost a thing! Even the little Alberta band Tupelo Honey that opened for them was a nice melodic rock treat. :D

Setlist

Livin’ On A Prayer
Bad Name
Lost Highway
Whole Lot Of Leavin
Runaway
Born To Be My Baby

Glad you got to see it. What were the tickets prices like? I hope to see them when they come to Cincinnati, but it probably will be at Riverfront Colesium rather than Riverbend, unless before the end of October. Thanks for the song list.

I definitely agree with Capt. Crash. Good tune. I'd also like to see them break out Have A Nice Day again. That song just gets in my head and I can't get it out!

"Capt. Crash"- God, what a crappy lyric that has. That song is embarrassing.

Saw Bon Jovi on the Bounce tour and while the show was good, I find him hard to watch. He's a rock star caricature. It's like watching Keith Partridge in front of a rock band. He's so VERY corny with his stage banter and his moves. There's no ROCK in Jon, it's just kind of posed. Richie on the other hand is one of my favorite guitarists. VERY bluesy feel. His first solo album is excellent. Pick it up.

Rather than Jon trying to kind of 'go country' or 'go mellower'- why the F doesn't he go more ROCK? The rock tunes on Bounce and Have a Nice Day were great as are most of their rock tracks. Where BJ always stumbles (ALWAYS) is when he tries to be too middle of the road, or too ballady. Songs like "You had me at Hello" and "Joey Keys" are the STUPIDEST songs for these guys. Very cliche lyrics (not to mention ripped off from, of all things, Tom Cruise) and nothing great musically. Put those up against Undivided/Let it Rock/Tokyo Road/Hey God and those songs come off as songs that might've been written for the Archies. Terrible.

Some of their ballads ARE great- "Bed of Roses", "I'll Be There For You" are amazingly good tracks, but the newer MOR stuff is total crap. WHO is telling the band these are good tracks for them? They used to do the Pizza Party deal where they'd take their new tracks and play them for their fans before releasing them and the fans would say "This is good" or "This is bad". They need to do that again to regain their credibility.

Seriously- Jon, pull your head out and make your band the GREAT rock band that it used to be or could be again. Get Richie sober, let Tico bash, quit with the male modelnosejobsbotox stuff and just be a great ROCK band. I don't wanna hear you do anything like "This Left Feels Right" EVER again.

That underwear photo-- gawd. See you in 16 Magazine Jon! It's not the body that makes me cringe, it's the calven klien 'male modelly-ness' of the shot that makes the guys squirm. It looks like something out of an International Male Manties catalog. Just too gay. Props to the guy for staying in shape, but jeez, pick a photographer that doesn't make you look like a candidate for Broke Back Mountain II.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Understood, however I refused to be painted w/ that brush. I appreciate T&A but I'm not gonna go on and on about it and even if I DID know how to post pics I wouldn't post porn.

Oh, and I'm HARDLY unmanly because I can't appreciate that pic of Bongiovi. Come on, look at him. I'd put him through the wall. :D

Disagree, ya the lyrics may be a little hokie, but overall a great upbeat song especially live.

Agree and disagree here. Lots of ROCK left in Jon, witnessed it a couple days ago. But I have to somewhat agree with you on the moves. Comparing his moves to JSS's now they actually do look a little corny, but I just don't think he's got that natural groove like JSS and Jon tries a little too hard to look fluidly sexy in his moves. But hey, I ain't complaining.

Agree, for the most part. But have to say some of those new more country(ish) songs came across great LIVE.

Cut the guy some slack, he's supposed to be posed. It was a modelling gig for Versace.

What happened to "You Give Love A Bad Name"? That seems to have been Richie's theme song as of late.

OK, as a hetero male of 43 I will admit I am pretty impressed by the pic as far as how Jon keeps in shape...God knows it is tough to look like that in your 40's! And if I looked like that I'd be showing it off too!

As far as the band and the music...love em both! I mean, I don't get the same lyrical rush as I would with say Springsteen or Counting Crows but I really respect the band for their musicianship and overall professionalism and their ability to stay on top.

BTW, I saw the fledgling Bon Jovi twice on their first tour opening up for I think the Scorps and Iron Maiden! NEITHER time did they play their ONE OF TWO HITS "She Don't KNow Me". Guess that was written by another writer and the record co made them record it so Jon would not play it live. Hmmm....still pissed me off as a fan.

I don't think the pic is gay. My wife and most women out there think Jon's hot, and that's not a gay thing. I'm 43 and I've been working out and getting back in shape, but I've got a few more pounds to go. I just tell my wife to close her eyes and imagine that I am Bon Jovi, and it gets really wild.

More power to ya! Keep working out. Its great for the mental health too. I think the world/media puts alot of pressure on women to be in shape at our age but we (men) don't necessarily keep ourselves up after the age of 35 or so.

Second one they did. Out of all their catalogue that is probably my least favorite now, over exposure I guess. But for some reason never get sick of hearing 'Someday I'll be Saturday Night.' Great song live and never played enough.

I agree on She Don't Know Me love that one, one of my favorite early ones. But they rarely ever performed it live. I have an old Cleveland boot from 84 where they do. Uploaded She Don't Know Me if anybody wants it.

While I am not a huge fan, kudos to them for being one of the very few groups still surviving. No, not just surviving, but still going on a major huge level.
Also, he has done so much and given so much back, what have you done?
