The Bakersfield video really highlights just how well Augeri could sound and how well he fit in the band. He had plenty of bad nights, but this night was just incredible. Thanks for posting!

I admire Augeri, but you can tell he was struggling with the notes in '01. Poor bastard. When you listen to Tall Stories, he sings in a totally different range. Perry set a standard that even he couldn't live up to forever. They tour these poor singers to death, then discard them like yesterdays news. I think Jeff's release was the best thing that happened to him. They would have used him up too. God bless their next sacrificial lamb.

Those are the highlights? Yikes. Don't show me the lowlights then.

These singers doing morning shows need to listen to what Jeff said about this: Sleep in the day before & stay up all nite. There's no way to warm up the voice in a few hours by getting up early. That HP performance in NY is extremely painful on the ears. Augeri HAD to be aware how bad he sounded there. I can imagine that pissed Neal off to the nth degree.

The poor guy was SERIOUSLY struggling on some notes in that Bakersfield show too & he's way off pitch at times. What's interesting is he sounds strong in some places, then his voice just falls apart in others.

He sounded a lot better in the 1998 shows on YouTube. How much did they tour from 98-2001? Anyone know?

All summer and a lot of the fall in '98, same in '99 nothing but a few fall/winter dates in 00 (inc DVD shoot), all summer and a lot of fall in 01 02 03 04 05.

They were road WARRIORS until Augeri's voice threw a rod.

So it was comparable to the Perry era tour schedule then. I guess they forgot that Augeri was older when he started.

Pretty comparable. Depends on EXACTLY how many shows the band played on each tour with both guys. Close to the same number of full-blown tours but I'd like to see a tour-by-tour side-by-side of the dates.

They didnt care. I think they would be embarresed to to have a young lead singer{which is want they needed to play as much as they did}.They just wanted a workhorse that would do what they said,till he got lame, they they put him out to pasture

All of them looked like midgets beside Jeff. I remember my husband commenting on that in Nov. He said Jeff looked like a giant. I said he sounded like one too

I think that this video demonstrates that Augeri really did deserve the gig. (the bakersfield footage)Definately a great performance. Not perfect, but truly live vocals never are. I can guarantee you that anyone in the audience that night didn't even pick up on the minor flaws, and would have been impressed by his delivery style and stage presence. If anybody has more good Augeri stuff, please post it !!
The Today Show footage, on the other hand, was much less impressive.

However,they toured pretty heavily with Augeri too.That might be the main reason why he fried his voice,plus the age factor setting in,just as in SP's case.

So an average of about 96 shows a year. What's amazing is that there was one leg that was 30 or 31 days straight. How any vocalist can do that is beyond me!

I was two rows back for our Generations concert. I remember thinking that the acoustics were terrible, that the music was overpowering Steve and even that close I was straining to hear him sing. I never had any inkling there was "tapegate" or anything else going on but I knew something wasn't right. Little did I know....

Looking at that one site with the Perry era info, on the Inifinity tour, they only took three days off in both March and May. There were a couple other months on that tour that were pretty full, as well as several months also for the Escape tour, and to a lesser degree for Frontiers & Departure.

I am not sure when it started . I went to 5 that year. the first one on July19 it was the full lenth concert, I thought it was live,then again in August some songs sounded perfect, the other three I went to the last one in November that year they cut the concert to about 2 hours and 10 minutes and the vocals were outstanding then I mean perfect.The concert I went to on Sept 7 th{Wolf Trap} I remember something strange during Faithfully,even my daughter noticed it.The second half sounded a little different almost like the 2001 DVD, but we dissmissed it {may be denial] Rumors were coming out by then. I figured it must of started when they cut the setlist down,and flew in "the vocal coach" .What shame. I was looking though my ticket stubs. I feel bummed about the whole thing them fuckers

Also, how long were the shows, how much was instrumental? Certainly by Escape and Frontier Journey was the main act and would have had a strong catalog of vocal songs to play. Earlier on (Infinity, etc.) they may have had more instrumentals from the first 3 albums and with Van Halen, etc. on tour with them a shorter set.

Regardless, doing it for this many weeks, on the road in a different town each night had to be tough on Perry and Augeri. You can be tired and still play guitar, bass, keyboard pretty well. Drummers and singers suffer the most from fatigue.
