Ain't NOTHIN' Wrong With Steve's Voice!

Hey all....

Remember this, from Uncle Joe?

...Having sat within six feet of Perry singing in a recording studio within the last 10 months, I know his voice is (and pitch) is as good as anytime since the mid-Eighties....Rock on!

Joe Benson

Finally heard the "final product" of ICSIIYE ~ listened to it on headphones....

Steve's voice is CLEAR, STRONG, and HIGH!! :D

You can hear the higher backing vox very well on 'phones ~ Produced so they're in both your ears, not "behind" or "above" you.

Try listening to it that way; you'll see what I mean.

ALSO: Thank you Laura for your story.....just by "perfect timing", I read it RIGHT AFTER I heard the song! LOL.

PS ~ Yes, that is Steve "belting out" "I can see it in your EEEYYEESS!!" not once ~ TWICE ~ at the top of his lungs....

yup; no "weakness" there, either.

I'm pretty convinced the Guff boys did their own harmony vocals. SP did sound great on his parts. His voice sounded strong albeit a little gravelly. He didn't sound like he was having any trouble singing his parts. It's always good to hear him sing. Especially these days.

Well, that can be true for all sides of the argument.

The only time we have heard Perry sing "live" is after being in the stands of a baseball game breathing in cold air and at that parade after the White Sox had won the series. Not exactly "proof" that his vocals are washed up, although it's all we have to go by. Studio vocals can be manipulated enough to fix rough spots and again, it's hard to tell on backing vocals. I would like to hear him sing lead on one vocally challenging song before I will agree that Perry can't sing anymore.

I don't think for a second he can't sing anymore. Albeit maybe not with the glass shattering highs he was able to hit, but I would be willing to bet he can still sing with the soul that only he knows how to! Personally, I prefer the more earthy, husky vocals of his later music. Adds soul!

Finally got this on iTunes this morning as I was MIA for a while (sick again). It sounds better than the UJB clip but I find myself longing for more Steve, far less Guff, as usual. I love his rasp. I listened 3 times so far. I want to believe, I really do, but this is the 1st time I've found myself thinking his voice is just not strong like it used to be. I won't judge for certain on this little bit of answer & backing vox.

I give JRox credit for typing this dose of reality, no matter how painful it may have been.

The main thing wrong with his voice is that he doesn't want to use it anymore.

He should use it how he sees fit. Me? I want a sequel to ST and FTLOSM.

But the overreactionary tendency of loons to behave as though he just presented us with anther Escape quality and length recording and a 35-show tour announceement every time he supposedly goes near a studio, record store or bg vocal mic is ridiculous.

Is there a full-length clip of this tune to listen to somewhere? I want to listen to the whole thing before I decide if Steve still sounds like he's been gargling razor blades.

Not quite as ridiculous as your hyperbolic overreaction to everything anyone you've labeled a 'loon says that's positive about Perry. Image

Nora, congratulations on being the most fucking myopic Loon ever and also for keeping the Loon dream alive.

SP could shit out "She was seventeen, beauty queen" and you would adore it. Your ears are packed with shit, or wax, or both. What you heard was studio magic. Steve PerrDo the math. Why do you think Neal invited him out on the 30th anniversary tour? He KNEW he couldn't do it, so he looked like the good guy "inviting" SP, knowing full well he would never accept the invitation.

Man, you just brought Loonism up to another fucking level. Weird chick. Yeah, change your name from tragchick to weirdchick.

Coming from a man that thinks Bryan Adams and Bruce Springsteen
are the most talented men in music.
I agree with Nig on this one, the biggest flaw in Perry's voice is that
he don't wanna use it.

First off Nora, you know I like you and was only joshin you.....

Secondly, you sure you want to take UJB over my word? He was wrong as a two dicked Racoon about Tapegate.

Keep Pushin.

Moonbeam, BA and BS ARE two of the most talented men in music. I emplore you to name two more talented men in music today.

Dean I never said that they weren't talented, I was just making
light of them compared to SP's voice and your enjoyment of them.
If you want two names that I feel do as much justice to music as
them, ok, I'll play along.
Paul McCartney and Elton John.

Thank you for being ever so civil, I like that from you every now and again. 8)

Have either of the two Fossils you named put anything new out l;ately that hasn't been utter shit? McCartney's latest sounds like the fuckin Hooters comeback and Elton is too busy jackin off cocks and deepthroating his bell boys in Vegas to write anything good.

You lose. BA/BS > PM/EJ

 Both EJ and PM can go musical rounds with BA & BS.
I think your full of BS by the way.
Thanks for the shakes Sir, no one does em quite like you.

Obviously we can't confirm what did happen in the studio either way, but it wouldn't be hard with today's technology to make SP sound like that in a studio.

He could've gone in, given his all vocally for 5 minutes, and had enough backing vocals for that silly Guff track.

It doesn't matter if he can sing in the studio, it matters if he can bring it live, which obviously he can't, or he would have done so at ANY POINT in the last 12 years. I think that says more about Steve's vocal condition than any interviews.

Gerene, you know I love you and you have great taste in music,I respect your favorite singers...but let's get a bit real.
McCartney is a living legend and all,he penned some immortal tunes, but I have to agree with Deano here  ...Sir PM's latest material is horrendous.
No one's talking about it,and if they do it's because it's signed by his famous name.
Both Bryan and Springsteen have a pile of CDs and DVDs that bury PM's activity.Of course,we are talking about McCartney solo, not the Beatles member.
I must say though,that Bruce's latest,"The Seeger Sessions",is crap.Can't listen to it.

Elton John?Yea,a one man show, nice sunglasses, nice feathers,but...sorry,I have seen him live and it was the only concert where I have literally fallen asleep.
I was embarrased.

If we're talking about relevant musicians that keep going strong,BA and BS win the match.

Just my opinion,of course.

I love that fols think differently, you included lady *Laura.
Haven't heard all of McCnart-ney's new spin but what I've heard, I have enjoyed.
Far as EJ goes I have seen him a few times live and I was never bored.
Personally I don't like comparing musicians because everyone has their
own sound and styles.

Bryan Adams is playing his songs down a step or two. They barely sound the same. Here are three examples. His voice is a fraction of what it used to be, not to mention he looks like he's been hanging out in Meth houses. As for Springsteen, the dude has always sounded constipated while singing. Moonie, the two creeps you picked should be used for target practice at Fort Bragg.
