I haven't been to a bar/band show in years....but I have to admit, I had a great time. It was a bit LOUD at times, and for awhile I was questioning if the songs the opening bands were singing/screaming actually had lyrics....I was assured they did. However, I have decided that 'dancing' like I remember it has totally 'left the building'.
There were 4 bands on before GUFF. I don't think GUFF played till like after 1am...all I know is it was late. They played 10 songs and I weasled my way to right in front of the bandstand - video cam in hand - to make sure I got "I Can See It In Your Eyes" on video. It was the closing song before their encore and when Ash introduced "ICSIIYE" with a brief story of how Steve was a part of the song....." the place went nuts!!!! EVERYBODY, including me, was singing along.....everybody knew all the words and it was FABULOUS. And no, STEVE WAS NOT THERE, but the guys did a great job with the song all the same. When they did their encore number the audience went 'crazy" and jumped on stage with them and was "borrowing" their mics and singing too!!! It was unique for this old lady (I'm 56) to be in with all them college kids, but ya know, I HAD A GREAT TIME and even tho they were a bit WILD, they all were very polite and asked me alot of questions about Steve Perry (cause I had a picture of him plasted on the back of my TeeShirt...lol) - to which I gladly talked their ears off, piercings and all......
Thanks to Reed, Charlie, Jay and Ash for making me and my hubby, Denis (who was a real trouper thru all this - I assure you this was not his "slice" of rock music pie) feel like we were kinda important for the evening. The guys were typical "guys" but really were funny and clever and very appreciative of the TeeShirts I had made for them just for the CD release party. I do have the video of them singing 'ICSIIYE' but I am not sure how to get it uploaded...its a huge file. It was pretty loud too, since I was standing at the band stand to the R side - RIGHT IN FRONT OF A SPEAKER - so its a tad distorted sound wise, but if ya keep the sound down you can for sure tell it's "I Can See It In Your Eyes"!!!! I assume I can't post that either...???
NOTE ON THE DANCING.....(?)/jumpin/falling/roaming all over - at least I think it was dancing, I could be wrong. It sorta reminded me of the old backyard game of "Red Rover" when you try and keep the runner from breaking the line and "Getting OVER" - ya know ya link arms and try and shove the runner back. Well that seemed to be the jest of the dancing only there were like 20 runners and the rest were shovers. It was, to say the least, an experience!!!
I don't wanna ruin GUFF's image but they were all pretty darn cute and really sweet. Reed spent a goodly amount of time yaking with me and the guys in the band that got to work/meet Mr. Perry very repectfully related their story of meeting "THE VOICE". It was mostly personal observations on their part. My guess is they were asked to not 'kiss and tell' so to speak and they kept their word. They did gave me a few autographed GUFF goodies and signed one of the shirts I had made for them too.
THANKS to GUFF for making my first "PUNK" rock thing pretty dang fun!!!
Here is a few pictures of the guys in action.....and Yes, I have permission to post them from GUFF...besides, they are my pictures...I took em!!!!
