Reality set in this morning...I think The Journey is OVER!!!

With no word from Jeremey, no BT back tey, not even a site for that matter and with no comment from the band after JSS's removal and the DSB blast from The Soprano's, I think they are calling it quits. I truly feel this way right now. I was just looking at some of the posts with YouTubes here and there and FUCK, we really had a GREAT FUCKING band. From BGTY to WYLAW to Augeri and to Jeff, we really had a good thing. All three really had a great run. I fear that it's truly over.
If Neal and Jon came here and saw and read how the basic hardcore fan base has turned simply rabid towards them and have read that mostly everyone will not except a new singer with open arms, I think they are reallly saying we fucked up and need to throw the towel in. You know they come here. You know they have read this stuff. I know I would if I was them. Even the basic fan base over the years, have dropped off. They will continue to drop off with another new singer I think. Word gets out. They joke about here on Pittsburgh radio whenever they are touring and coming to town.
I just look at the vids and listen to the boots and albums I have with all three singers and I really feel like WOW, what a band!!!! Now I think, It's over. Like I said, with no word from Jer, nothing from the camp or site, I think it's over. Damn!!!
I do however look forward to a new TS album or a JSS stop near Pittsburgh. I think that they will possibly help they ((((blah)))) feeling that we may all have.

The only time that I will feel that Journey is over is when Perry states that it is.

Come on, HOTS.
That makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever...
Are you STILL holding out for his return???
Or are his CONSTANT reminders in EVERY interview
that he has not been part of this band since 1998 not good enuff???
Besides, Perry can say "Journey is over" all he wants.
But he has no control over this sideshow frick and frack are
gonna keep trying to tour with...

I doubt that he cares if they tour with vocalists that attempt to give any performance "the Perry touch" as it's a tribute to what Journey was all about, for the most part. I know that he has no control over how they try to stay revelant but while the guys are all alive and kicking, if the band went off the radar, the possibility of a few phone calls being made and someone saying, " Hey, how about one more, just to say that we still can" is always there, imo.

I think that he does. He posts that there were no hard feelings and that he was thankful for the time he spent filling in for Augeri. He gained many new fans and had great exposure touring with the band. It was what it was.

Problem is, Sherrie, they aren't too concerned about
this "small" portion of their ticket-buying public.
Keeping Augeri or Jeff around and recording a new album,
yes, they absolutely need us diehards because we are usually
the only ones they KNOW would buy the stuff.
but since it seems like they are gonna be content touring the hell
out of the Perry years, they really don't have to worry about
us because Joe-Mullet-Concert-Goer is gonna hear that 'Journey'
is coming to town playing all their Greatest Hits and grab a ticket
on his way to the fair's cotton candy stand!
Honestly, they gave up on some and turned their backs on 'them', the Internet
Diehards, first when they fired Augeri and then pretty much
lost the rest of us when they fired Jeff.
Pretty fuckin' sad...

It just set in for you this morning?
The parade of bullshit lies regarding Perry's 'injury' in Hawaii didn't do it for you?
The countless number of NDAs that were signed by everyone connected to Journey didn't do it for you?
The only honest account from the one guy that DIDN'T sign an NDA didn't do it for you?
The VH1 BTM didn't smack you in the face with it?
The utterly awful Dead13 didn't do it for you?
Augeri getting tossed with the rest of the band Seeing, Hearing or Doing no evil didn't do it for you?
JSS getting the axe in the way that it happened didn't do it for you?
A tribute band singer being the band's last option didn't do it for you?

I hear ya Carl and know that you're right about the concert goers, but those guys really do read what's on here and it has an effect on them.
I would just hate to see a lot of people saying things out of anger at what's happening now and then regret it later if they get what their anger is saying they want.

makes sense.
But I am TRULY over it.
There are only 2 ways I will support anything they do
in the future:
1. Since i got my 7 yo daughter hooked on them,
I will take her to a show if she wants to go.
2. Only Perry coming back could truly get me excited again.

Correct..........but there's one thing...Journey died when Perry left, fuck the early years and the latter years without Perry,
Journey, regardless of who they take on board are now pretty pointless. Even if Jeff had continued they're still not THE JOURNEY we grew up with and we're kidding ourselves if we think that. Augeri and Jeff, even if they had been the greatest replacement in history, it still wouldn't bring back the Perry factor. Should they throw the towel in, too right they should, this should have been done 10 years ago but the dollar speaks don't it!
Would U2 carry on with a replacement for Bono, would Stones continue without Jagger...no fuckin' way. Time to close it down, because what's the point............you want to carry on buying Journey material follow Cain and his solo project...as that's as good as it'll get from now on. No doubt Schon will fire up an impressive solo project also but I can't follow him down that road as it's the band I want and with Perry at the helm...he is Journey and as he's not coming back, it's over for me.
I've always thought Perry's return would be fantastic but not now..too much has gone on. Perry if he returns needs to return solo and not to crush Journey but to simply fill the appetite of those of us who appreciate a great talent.
You can't blame Cain, Schon and company, at the end of the day they have to make money and with Perry leaving, what else could they do? A new replacement will churn out another city by city tour and pay a few more bills but other than that, very little will come from it. Jeff could not have saved Journey as they were long past this stage when he joined. Can't understand why he joined them in the first place really

Perry was a great singer, but he is not as iconic as Bono and Jagger. That's why plenty of people who go to Journey shows don't even know Perry isn't on the stage.

Bingo!
Perry was great but was not as popular
in the "Pop Culture" community as people like
Bono, Jagger, Steven Tyler, Sting, Axl, Debbie Harry...

maybe when it was steve augeri. but i doubt anyone could or would mistake jss for sp... jss is a good 2 feet taller then steve perry! };CP
i found people were shocked to find out sp wasn't singing for journey no longer. my fisrt show with augeri there were people sitting around me who were a bit upset that it wasn't sp. as long as journey tours & sings the dirty dozen people will flock & they know this... doesn't really matter who's up there singing. baby jesus... even i could jump up there & belt out a few tunes. they had the chance to move forward & create something new with jss... but they are chicken shits. afraid to take chances or they really have nothing left to give. they should call it a day before they crack that stone into a billion pieces. imo they did that the day they fucked jss over. not just that they treated him so poorly... but they showed their true colors... they are classless shitheads. who don't give a rats ass about their fans... or their friends.

Kinda like what Styx did when Dennis left huh? They've sucked and died ever since.....Your post makes no sense and lacks Journey knowledge.....I would have thought before you posted. Journey didn't die when Perry left. Nor did Styx when Dennis. Again, your post is fucking stupid. Go back to the Styx board and stay there.....

Maybe not. But the CD buying Journey fans do know and they aren't supporting the recording career as a result of Perry's absence.

I would love Perry to come back but honestly I dont believe he can sing anymore, those songs were written by him and for him , when he was young and his voice was wet, smooth and flexible, now his voice is dry, rough, and stiff. Not gonna happen.
Listen to him when he sang his FTLOSM, all the songs were half step lowered and they honestly werent very good, he chose a lot of alternate notes and phrases to avoid the difficult passages, of course he made it sound good because he is Steve Perry but , honestly it made me flinch many times and it was sad.
Theres no way hes coming back to embarrass himself. He wants to remember it the way it was. Lets let him.
Guitar players get better and better, piano players, etc... if their instrument wears out, they go to the guitar store and get a new one, have one made custom etc etc... as far as I know, new throats arent for sale anywhere. The Steve perry that we know is no more. And honestly, I think thats why he didnt tour in 96 TBF.
Ill back Journey with a new singer, just pick a good one that can handle the material easily, sings it his own way, doesnt try to immitate perry. Im tired of going to concerts and wondering if the singer is going to be able to hit it, bracing myself to flinch. I want to feel confident that the vocalist is going to get it easily, the vocalist is confident and hes not going to try and shout the note to get it. I dont care if it sounds like perry or notl, so long as he or she captures the emotion and meaning of the song that the original authors intended and makes me feel the songs.
Also, Im sure you all care much more about everything than JSS, or Journey for that matter. They dont care. JSS got great exposure, he is his own musician , im sure he didnt want to be boxed into a band that wasnt going to do new things and let him be a p art of it, only sing the songs. He is a true musician and has lots of options, and lots more options now than before. Be happy for him. Besides he wasnt right for journey anyway.
I think Kevin would be great, Hugo, Dave Brooks, Jason K, of course hes not interested, but better singers that have their own style would be the best approach. the question is, does Journey (aka Neal Schon) want to actually have a band that is going places, writing, creating, evolving. I think not. They can't get past their egos, and neals afraid to have someone new with an ego or a lttle pride because he doesnt want it to be a fight again like it was with Perry.Hes in control now, and thats how he likes it and who can blame him. The love hate thing with perry was what produced all those great songs and made them so awesome but Im sure that must have been difficult and a pain in the balls at times. Maybe he just likes it nice and peaceful under control the way it is.
A real singer is going to want to do things his way too and I doubt Neal will have that. Augeri was grateful just to be there, schon rescued him from the GAP and there was no resistance from him. Im sure it was yes sir , no sir mr schon, then neal blew out SAs voice insisting he sing l ouder and turning down his amp. The concerts I went to all had Augeri overpowered by the instruments, could hardly hear him. Neal doesnt want the lead signer to get out of hand, almost as if its his way of actingn out for all the years perry abused him and controlled the band. Schon has real psychological issues, unresolved abuse issues and he needs professional help. Thats my 2 cents. I dont know what happend with JSS but I suspect that he asserted himself and his side project threatened neals ego as well.
Im waiting for a real singer to come and make Journey a real band again. A complete band. But I seriously doubt that will happen because Neal and John do not want that, their money is in tribute to their former glory.
Ok Fockers, flame away.
ON THE OTHER HAND sometimes I think, Neal wants guys that cant do the material, and now an impersonator, to motivate Perry to come back and do it right. It it becomes utterly unbearable, maybe perrry will come back. OR neal is doing it on purpose to hurt perry, mock him etc. Why do those guys hate each other so much that they cant even talk to each other. What could possibly make two grown men hate each other so much?

I beg to differ....Perry was and is even more iconic in many other ways. Primarily due to his voice alone. To the mass of Journey fans, Perry is virtually Journey! Need proof....just look at how many people attend an average concert without Perry. It's not even close to what was. And sure, there's some folks in the audience that can't tell the difference, but the numbers are from a much smaller pool....and these are the same people that think a $49 stereo sounds just like a $2,500 stereo.

Concert attendance and album sales between now and 20+ years ago are not comparable because the music scene is totally different.

Fleischman and Dunbar needed to go, Smitty and Valory, that was a mistake. Herbie, another mistake. You'll never find another manager that worked harder for the band than HH did. He's a crude fowl mouthed dude, but he did his job well. That and he only took an equal part of the pie. Azoff takes a much bigger chunk.
