Still sad

Hi all

Just wanted to vent for a second.
Maybe it’s just me - but I'm still trying to get past what happened to JSS.
I don’t know how people feel - maybe it’s my naivety to the music business,
But it still disturbs me. Its unfair that people are allowed to treat others with such disrespect and are allowed to get away with it because its 'the biz' That one little phrase is supposed to mean certain people are exempt from behaviors and
common human decency.

I guess I would assume the 'old timer' bands would have more class than this.
If you want to let someone go, (albeit as insane as that was) have the decency to be professional and respectful. And I think that is what is so tragic (insert word of your choice).

Old school bands that stick together through thick and thin (like Def Leppard and like I thought, Journey) were impressive and inspiring to fans.

Unfortunately Journey has become the epitome of the phrase 'the biz.'

So sad..

Oh come on. It's tragic to those of us who have loved this band for 30 years or more.

Tragic? Not by any means... I would go as far as to say that it's definately not right, but not "Tragic".

I'm not sad. Jeff was treated badly, but he handled it with dignity and has great things going on creatively. If anyone came out clean in the mess that Journey made, it's Jeff!

My reply wasn't a jab at Kim at all.. I personally reserve the word tragedy for things such as accidents that involve deaths and such things like that. What happened to Jeff was uncalled for and a complete injustice on the bands part. I side with you, but I use different words

i'm bummed & was REAL sad but in the bigger picture this is probably best for jss. now he's free to get back to doing his own stuff... he has a lot of beautiful music to share with the world. it does suck real hard that jeff was treated so badly... but he seems like a good person... as he says his mama raised him well. i'm sure he's being taken care of by his family & friends. he's 41 & has been in the music business for over 20 years. i'm sure this wasn't the first time he's been hit with a big blow... and he doesn't come across as being a bit jaded. that says a lot about his character.

Let it go. Jeff is better off without Journey. Jeff will be back on his feet very soon!

Journey, on the other hand? Who really cares? They're apparently still blowing their collective wad over Steve Perry.

I think JSS will be just fine. It's not like anyone has killed his family. With touring with Journey, some people are now more familiar with him here in the states, and that could sway his solo work into a good career move. The mans gonna be fine, he'll handle it, and move on.

I admire you devotion to JSS, Kim, but I think it's almost unanimous that people think he is better off this way. You can't keep the man down long. He has moved on and will continue to deliver new music to his fans. What's there to be sad about?

Kim, I hear ya..

Words can mean different things to people.. I think it is horrible what they did to Jeff, and Journey lost what little respect I had for them when they let Jeff go.

I really believe that with all the new fans and friends Jeff has made here, he will go far.. Journeys loss....

Our gain... Now jeff can do the music he wants, in the style he wants!

Rock on Jeff

You're still sad but I still don't accept that he HAS to be out.

Tons of downtime here bandwise.

Lots of time for the ice to thaw.

Unlike the Augeri situation which I thought was irrepairable.

Tragedy!!! This has been weighing on my heart since I read it yesterday. I can't shake it!

Girl, 12, who died after being struck by softball had artery tear
7/26/2007, 1:49 p.m. EDT
The Associated Press

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — A 12-year-old softball player who died a day after being hit in the head with a ball at practice suffered a tear in an artery that caused a hemorrhage on the surface of her brain, an autopsy revealed.

Margaret Ruth "Maggie" Hilbrands was hit by a ground ball during a routine infield drill on Monday — a day after the death of a minor-league baseball coach who was struck by a line drive in Arkansas. The Grand Rapids girl died Tuesday at DeVos Children's Hospital.

Dr. David Start, a forensic pathologist with the Kent County medical examiner's office, said Thursday the impact of the ball caused Maggie to jerk her head to the side, resulting in a tear of an artery.

Maggie had been set to enter the seventh grade this fall at Grand Rapids Christian Middle School. She had been practicing with teammates on the Lowell Xtreme traveling softball team.

Margaret Ruth "Maggie" Hilbrands
Margaret Ruth "Maggie" Hilbrands was quickly carried away to her new home in heaven in the arms of Jesus her Savior on Tuesday, July 24, 2007. Maggie will be deeply missed by her parents, Marty and Jan Hilbrands; sisters, Julia, Catherine, Ellen and Audrey; grandparents, Will and Jan Hilbrands, John and Jane Warners; aunts and uncles, Chris and Kathy Doyle, David and Jane Hilbrands, Dan and Rebecca Hilbrands, Phil and Connie Warners, Dave and Teri Warners, Gary and Myra Warners, Mark and Amber Warners; 14 Warners cousins; five Hilbrands cousins. Born July 10, 1995, Maggie attended Creston Christian School and Grand Rapids Christian Middle School. Precious Maggie brought joy, love, and her contagious smile everywhere she went. Her family and hosts of wonderful friends all anticipate the day they can greet her again in heaven. The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, from 1 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m., as well as on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in Maggie's memory on Sunday, 4:00 p.m. at Sunshine Community Church with Rev. Dave Huizenga officiating. If desired, contributions may be made to the Grand Rapids Christian School Association. Zaagman Memorial Chapel

No it's not just you. You are merely expressing and showing to other readers that you have moral standards thats all.

And regarding the fact of tragedy, seeing as the very definition of tragedy is that which is either dreadful, fateful or lamentable I would say you could say it is a tragedy that A good Band has rather shortsightedly passed up a good singer and who knows what the future holds for Journey now.
Speaking as someone who has encountered many tragedies (which I wont go into) there is no law that states a tragedy is just about people dying although it is a tragedy when that happens NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT :-)...You are obviously a very thoughtful person, and I think that is something to be applauded, too many people in this world don't care about anyone but themselves ...:-)
