Frightening stuff... :? Even more so because it happened while rehearsing..

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070729/people_nm/kiss_singer_dc;_ylt=ArOkN8FURHqj4tb.P6kYmQYDW7oF

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Paul Stanley, a singer and guitarist with rock band Kiss, was forced to pull out of a show in California on Friday after his heart started beating at more than twice the normal level, he said on his Web site.

The apparent tachycardia happened while the band was rehearsing for a performance at a casino in San Jacinto, California, about 90 miles east of Los Angeles.

"My heart spontaneously jumped to 190 plus beats per minute, where it stayed for over an hour necessitating paramedics to start an IV and give me a shot to momentarily stop my heart and get it into a normal pattern," Stanley, 55, wrote on his site (http://www.paulstanley.com)

genetics are a funny thing,, Paul runs, eats wisely, doesnt seem to over indulge in drink , no drugs,, ect... ACE has been drunk since '75 , popping pills, and wheel barrels of coke.. looks bad, but seems as healthy as anyone his age..

side note..***

being a KISS fan took a new low last night as i listened to Rockline... Bob C. did great asking Peter Criss about his life and new album... BUT he played that new album... it is horrendus.. terrible.. NO bright spot.. flat out embarrasing,, Pete was pretty cool but didnt like some of questions about the past.. i got a black eye from just listening ...

The comment about the drug they gave Paul to fix his tachycardia is called adenosine. We paramedics around here call it a "code brown" drug. You hook the person up to the heart monitor and inject this drug into the IV line that you've started and it literally stops their heart. The really amazing thing is they never lose conciousness and are still talking to you while it happens. It's a "code brown" because we are staring at the monitor going "come on fucker start beating again" waiting for the heart to reset itself. It is truly an amazing piece of medicine.

Gene knows how to handle a crisis. Most bands would have just left the stage and let others clean up the mess.

MESSAGE FROM PAUL
PROUD OF GENE, TOMMY & ERIC

07/28/2007 PAULSTANLEY.com

PAULSTANLEY.com

During sound check yesterday, my heart spontaneously jumped to 190 plus beats per minute where it stayed for over an hour necessitating paramedics to start an IV and give me a shot to momentarily stop my heart and get it into a normal pattern. Not knowing if this episode was life threatening made it even more exhausting. After consulting with both the paramedics and a cardiologist at Cedar Sinai, they confirmed my worst fear. They said that I would put myself at risk if I tried to do the show.

I’m very proud of Gene, Tommy and Eric for carrying on without me. I apologize to anyone I disappointed and I’ll make it up to you when I see you again.

Paul.

KISS ROCKS FOR PAUL
PERFORMS AS TRIO

Last night an extraordinary page was written in KISSTORY. At the Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, California, last stop of the band’s 2007 ‘Hit & Run’ mini Tour, KISS performed as a TRIO for the first time ever. Immediately following the band’s sound check, Paul Stanley suddenly fell ill, with what was later determined to be a “cardiac event”.

Once it was determined by emergency medical staff that Paul could not perform, there was talk that the show would need to be canceled. It was Paul himself, who insisted that the band play the show without him. Paul was concerned that fans had traveled long distances and because of the band's individual schedules the show could not be rescheduled.

KISS Manager Doc McGhee then took the stage to announce to th e crowd that Paul was sick and unable to perform but that Gene wanted to speak with the fans. Gene asked the audience if they wanted him, Tommy & Eric to perform. The crowd responded with a defeaning chant of yes, yes, yes. With that, Gene announced that the concert (If they could pull it off), was a tribute to “The Greatest Voice in Rock and Roll - Rock God Paul Stanley”.

With Paul en route to the hospital - Gene,Tommy and Eric played their hearts out in honor of their stricken leader! The set list evolved as the night progressed and KISS blasted their way into the hot night air - valiantly trying to hold it together minus the band’s heart & soul. In an emotionally charged moment, Gene told the crowd that he was an only child, but nevertheless had a brother – Paul Stanley! ‘Christine Sixteen' brought 11 invited fans onto the stage to help perform the song, and added a bit of lighthearted fun to the pensive night.

The trio went on to perform a full set inclu ding classics and rarities - ‘Watchin’ You’, ‘Goin’ Blind’, ‘Nothing to Lose’, ‘Black Diamond’, ‘Cold Gin’, ‘She’, and ‘Parasite’. The sold out arena was filled with dedicated fans who appreciated what a unique night this really was, despite its bittersweet nature, and rocked hard & loud. As the final chords of ‘Rock & Roll All Night’ were struck, and the last jets of flames and confetti shot into the night sky, everyone realized what they had just witnessed was simply great music performed by dedicated, extraordinary musicians who really gave it their all, and then some.

Another thing every KISS fan at the show last night realized - is just how lucky we are that our favorite band, led by the greatest front man in Rock N Roll PAUL STANLEY, cares so much for us fans!

Get well soon Paul - we all love you!

Thanks, Ed. Cool article. Having seen KISS about 5 or 6 times I can honestly say that they know how to put on a show. That said, Paul Stanley is a freak. The notes he's belted out for almost 30 years should have destroyed his voice, but it's as good as ever. I have always respected the shit out of KISS and this solidifies that decision immensely. I hope Paul recovers. He is truly what a frontman should be.

I'm not sure, I had an exhausting day and came home and at about 11 that night I laid down to go to bed and it started. I slept all night with it that way, and got up the next day and it was still doing it, so I went to the ER and they gave me that heart stopper drug, but it didn't fix it, so they admitted me. I stayed there all night, and the next day some time in the afternoon they gave me a drug that made it quit. The next thing they were going to do was, kathump, the paddles. YEEEESH!!!! You have to be awake for that.

Your heart is full of little electrical receptors called Nodes. When one or more of these Nodes misfires, that causes the problems like Paul Stanley, and Rick experienced. Can be caused by genetic defects that you may not even be aware of until something like this happens. That is usually when it is finally found, diagnosed and treated.

Sorry Rick wasn't trying to step on your toes. I just know the answer to that particular question.

No, thanks for the info bro. I'm sure they told me all that, but it was something like 10 years ago, so I have forgotten what all they told me.

Thanks for the post! That's just incredible that they pulled off the show without him!!! I hope he's alright, and gets back out there to rock some more. For those of you that haven't bought his new solo album, you've gotta check it out. It's by far one of the best albums I bought last year. Unlike Gene's album, this one rocked and was very "Kiss-y".

Any chance at seeing more of that show? I'd love to see more clips.

out of this world ED..!! only tommy and eric and bruce could have pulled this off.. amazing! bad notes everywhere,, unrehearsed tunes to the max! .. very much a high point for this old band ,, pulled it off..

Thanks again, that clip was very cool! Did you guys see someone throw a can onstage? WTF kind of person (especially on that night of all nights) would throw a can or beer bottle onstage? It's a good thing I wasn't next to that guy when he threw it...would have got ugly really quick!!!

Thanks everyone for the interesting med info and the clips.
I had no idea about the procedures that fix this heart issue...Scary stuff anyway.

Impressive, isn't it? I'll never forget him from last year.He was outstanding,I couldn't believe he could still be that good at his age.Great physical shape too.

It's really great to see how the rest of the band managed to get through the show without Paul.Gene is awesome,as always. 8)
