Review of Frontiers show in Atlanta Saturday night

First of all, please forgive any typos in this review. I've been drinking heavily for the past four hours tonight, and I'm not sure if I can string a paragraph together. Thankfully, I put the setlist into my blackberry during the concert.

Let me start by saying if Jeremey IS the new lead singer for Journey, he's definitely qualified for the job. He was spot on all night and sang the Journey catalog as if he was born to do it. He hits the high notes with seeming ease. I had watched the clips on YouTube and listened to the MP3's on their website, but damn......................

The show was fantastic. This was a setlist that none of us will ever see Journey perform. And I'm not sure we'll ever hear the Journey classics sung this way again. I really don't have a strong memory of the seeing Journey with Perry on the ROR tour in 1986, but I remember seeing JSS and Augeri multiple times in the past 8 years. I was even listening to a bootleg of Journey from Japan in 2001, and even in those days it was obvious that Augeri was struggling to hit the hign notes on many of the songs. There was NO struggling by Jeremey to hit ANY notes on Saturday night.

Speaking of the setlist, here it is:

Only the Young
Stone in Love
Escape
Girl Can't Help It
Send Her My love
Message of Love
Mother, Father
Feeling That Way
Anytime
Suzanne
Faithfully
Edge of the Blade
Line of Fire
Lights
Stay Awhile
Still They Ride
Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'
10-minute intermission
Separate Ways
I'll Be Alright Without You
Keyboard Solo
Who's Cryin' Now
Ask the Lonely
Where Were You
Missing You
Don't Stop Believin'
Open Arms
Chain Lightning
Wheel in the Sky
Just the Same Way
When You Love a woman
Oh Sherrie
Be Good To Yourself
Anyway You Want It

I loved the fact that they did a couple of Perry solo tunes. I know this wasn't the case, but it almost seemed like Jeremey was saying, "Just in case you have any doubts I can cover the Perry notes, here are a couple of his solo songs for ya!"

The only thing that would have made the setlist more "perfect" would be for "Majestic" to have opened the show, "The Party's Over" to close the show, and for the combination of "Patiently" and "Opened the Door" to have snuck in there somewhere in between.

I had a blast at the show. I was planning on spending the night in Altanta after the show, but was so psyched up after the concert that I made the drive back to Tennessee, cranking Journey tunes the whole way until arriving at 4 a.m.

Thanks to Jeremey and the rest of the band for a great night of tunes. I had a great "seat" for the show, about 15 feet from the stage right off the standing floor area. I chose to stand right behind the railing so I'd have a place to set my drinks.

I'll definitely see Jeremey and his band in 2008, whether it's "Frontiers" or "Journey". Good luck with the new baby, Jeremey.

It seems that Jeremey never fails to impress. Dude has pipes.

They did sound great, rtz! I was on the far left end of the railing/bar if you were looking out from the stage. I was in a group of about 8 people. I was totally impressed and after the show we all took the party back to our suite at the Buckhead Embassy Suites and finished off anything left in the cooler!!! No way we could have made it back home that night! I am Tim who Jeremey dedicated Open Arms to his wife Simone on the 16th wedding anniversary. Do you recall that???

Fuck dude, I think you and I have the same tastes in music. I would agree with your comments completely. (and BTW Delp and Barry ROCK!). Jeremey will be a very interesting add to Journey. I'll be there to have a listen as well in 2008.

Thanks for coming out to the show, Jonathan, and for the great review. We did certainly have a blast. I'm sans computer at home for several days at least as we are moving the office out to paint the nursery, etc and things are everywhere. Once things calm down though I hope to get some video from the show online & I'll share the links here. Thanks again!

Contrary to what many of you would LIKE to believe, If Journey does indeed add Jeremey, they will have their strongest vocalist since 1987. I'm excited again.

Unless you've just recently been resuscitated from a deep coma, Journey hasn't exactly been performing much new material in recent years anyway, so there you go.

So then Jeremy might just as well hang with his band and keep doing the same tribute thing with them ...at least there he won't have to worry about getting the axe!

That is your perception of how things have happened. Mine is a bit different. I think ultimately they wanted someone that would sound closer to the way Perry sounded as far as the catalog goes, and at the same time a guy that they could make new music with, without deviating too much from the core sound that made them famous. What Jeremey did before Journey is irrelevant. Hell they hired a guy that was cleaning chicken shit out of coops and that seems to have worked out just fine. The fact that Jeremey pays homage to a group and a specific era of music once or twice a month really shouldn't have such a negative connotation. You just wish you had the talent and perceived opportunity that he's getting. Journey will be just fine. Mark my words.

With all due respect to Jeff, what fucking "new found fame" are you talking about? He sang covers...the same shit you bash Jeremey for doing. Jeff got positive reviews much like Augeri did when he first took the helm. Augeri's were actually better and we saw how that turned out. Being a great showman as Jeff was does not guarantee that chemistry and good new music is a given. We'll just never know now. However, statements like "new found fame" are just plain stupid. There simply wasn't anything except a few positive reviews. Or did I miss a platinum album?

I, for one, am VERY excited for what the future holds for Jeremey. I really hope he gets the job. I dont know him personally but from reading the posts he has put on here in the past he seems like a genuine good person and if fronting Journey is his dream then hopefully his dream will come true. Man, there is such negativity on some of these posts!!!

Platinum album ...hell he didn't even get a chance at a single!!lmao He pumped alot of fresh air into the band ...and brought the uk people on board he was making a nice ripple effect. They never gave him the chance to see what he could do .They went with the dirty dozen sound ...might as well hit the county fair !!Thats all there good for now .

Perhaps you are correct. Then why not just do that. Why the need to jump into a "Frontiers" thread and bash on a dude (though you'll say you aren't) who might have the chance to live out a dream, not to mention that he has a newborn on the way? Seems like you're jealous that he has a lot going for him right now. You're a dickhead.

Thanks! I try to not get wrapped up in negativity, you know-always see the glass half-full. Journey music makes me happy. If I wanna wind down Journey has something for me. If I wanna party, well once again Journey comes thru. I love listening to Jeremey cover the tunes and I know he'll do an awesome job wherever he winds up!

Someone mentioned Jeremey being an interesting addition to the band and you commented that they'll be "coming to a county fair in your neighborhood." That's bashing the dude and indirectly saying that he'll create no interest and they'll be relegated to fairs. And learn how to spell his name you illiterate fuck. At least extend him that courtesy. Your grammar is terrible. My guess is your highest level of education is probably one year of high school.

Yeah I have to say I've just watched some youtube clips of Frontiers and the guy can sing like an angel. Looks like Perry too but I'm assuming there's a bit of wig action happening there?! If he's the new singer I'm sure the band will sound and look great but I think it's gonna take a while for the bad taste of what they did to JSS to leave me. But that's just my personal issue.
