Perry and Journey together again..........

Postby WickedGail » Tue Aug 28, 2007 11:08 am

Yes this could happen and for the number one reason in this world today the love of money!

If you think a tour can't be mounted when the bands members are not getting along the below story will proved it can be done.

In the 1970's on one of the last Who tours that Moon was alive for, all of the band members were not getting along. In fact they were barely speaking to each other.

My cousin was working road crew for them at the time so I was a personal witness to this. When the band played multiple nights at Madison Square Garden the four members of the band were staying yes your reading right at four seperate hotels! Rodger was at The Plaza, Pete was at the Pierre, John was at the Park Lane and Keith was at the Essex House. You talk about a road managers nightmare! YIKES! My cousin had me do message ferrying service for them during this week. Remember this was before the days of cell phones text messaging etc.....So if one of the band members was feeling pissy that day and not answering the room phone someone had to go over to the other hotel and bang on the door to tell them something. The RM on this tour should have been paid tripple the usual salary! They did and entire international tour this way and even though the logistics were crazy it worked out.

The funny thing is this never translated to the stage one at the concert who was not aware of the backstage matters would not have understood that there was a problem. In fact it is universally agreed among avid Who fans that this tour may have produced some of the best live Who performances ever! Maybe the tension was the catalist for the energy on stage.

So yes a tour can be achieved even if the band is all not touchy feely with each other.

Folks something weird is up. I point to the large sum of money that must have be dangled in front of the Van Halen boys that brought this so called cumbyya moment, and one could argue that there was just as much bad blood with DLR as there is with Perry.

I can't fgiure out why a band with the industry savvy as the guys in Jouney would set about what appears on the surface to be career suicide. Let JSS go without any clear sucessor seems almost crazy! I have a wild theory. Yes, maybe it's the Washington DC in me. That they are doing a reunion tour with Perry and auditioning all these possible American Idol wanna be's is just a distraction to keep us occupied until they wish to drop the bomb. If not their actions should require some mental heath help. Becase they then are insane!

Just my take........

I don't think SP can tour vocally. I'm still skeptical that there was a hip injury, and that story was made up because he knew he couldn't handle the rigors of a tour vocally. Vanity might just have gotten the best of him. I think he gave all he had just recording the album for TBF.

I will say this though, SP could very well do a new record in the studio and then they could tour it with a hired singer. I think that would be the only way it could happen.

With that being said, I don't think any of it will ever happen.

Your optimism is understandable though.

The original story has one HUGE problem...Steve Perry doesn't NEED any money. The dude has to EASILY be worth in excess of $100 million. His lifestyle, responsibility and vision for his future have allowed him to live comfortably for the next several hundred years should he live that long. I'm quite sure that from now until his time on this planet comes to an end he'll be able to afford everything and anything he wants. Responsibility has its privileges. 8)

PS I think he could easily pull it off vocally. He's always been an artist first and a vocalist second. People tend to forget that his artistic delivery always outshined his stratospheric vocal abilities.

There wasn't a hip injury...no need to remain skeptical....just don't fucking believe it!!! Trust me, the hip injury was complete bullshit dreamt up to not have to tour.

And it has nothing to do with Perry not being able to vocally handle it. I believe, given a little bit of work....he could pull it off.

It all has to do with Perry simply NOT wanting to tour anymore. He's done...toast. Fuck, last time that guy toured was 94 and there are still Loons out there desperate to drag him out of retirement by his toenails....12 fucking years....and he can't get away from them.

Can you imagine the frenzy if he suddenly went "Guess what guys....I'm BAAACCK!"

The loon population would explode.....every loon that gave up over the past 12 years, would immediately start chirping like the annoying northern hemisphere bird they are named after....and Steve Perry would have go back into hiding for 12 more years (following this supposed tour) just to have a normally sane life back.

All that, just to tour with two pricks and a few hired guns....so that the two pricks can pay off their utterly horrendous bills?

Would you go through hell, singing to adoring psychopaths desperately in need of a sunday meeting at Weight watchers.....just to bail someone like Neal Schon out of financial trouble?

Damn, I've said it before, I would wait a good 10 minutes before pissing on him to put out the fire engulfing him....and I'm a nobody.

Perry would need a damn good reason to even think, for 1 fraction of a second, to come back to Journey....before dismissing the whole thought as psychotic as the fans that stalk him on a daily basis!

I think the Schon/Cain led Journey of today IS that bad at running things. I don't think they have enough business savvy to run a t-shirt shop these days.
I don't believe for a minute that Perry's coming back.

I think Steve could handle the vocals and yes, I believe the hip problem. I have to have at total knee replacement at the age of 55 and the doctors don't really want to do it because it will have to be replaced in 20 years. So I'm trying my best to get along with it pain and all until I really need to have it done. Personally, I don't think Steve wants to tour anymore. Why should he? If anything I could see Steve staying in one spot and having the fans come to him. I'd travel to wherever he is to hear him sing.

Once again I ask...

Why fire JSS if you aren't getting Perry back. In JSS you had a singer that wasn't a Perry clone and the fans loved. It makes NO sense to replace him if you aren't getting Perry back.

You're right. Perry grew up about 20 miles from me in the Hanford/Lemoore area. My in-laws are Portuguese and know his family. Perry owns so much real-estate, the dude has property all over the state of Calif. That's just part of his fortune. He didn't blow his money, but Invested well. He could care less how much money could be offered to re join Journey.

It's never going to happen.

It doesn't make sense what they did. I would love to see SP back as much as anyone. I just don't think he's going to saddle up with those guys anymore. I wouldn't blame him if he didn't.

As long as it took for me to believe it, I am now fully convinced that Steve Perry made up the hip story. I think what seemed like a good idea at the time (touring) turned out to be something he really wasn't ready to do. Furthermore, I think fans would've expected a 5-10 year run, something he most certainly didn't want to do. I think because of the "final" tour expectations that fans have now, the odds of Perry returning to the road now are exponentially higher than they were in 1996.

I didn't even read the entirety of the first post because it quickly became absurd. I quoted the last line because it rang true.

Other than that, Steve isn't going to (and shouldn't) touch this debacle that's being called Journey with a ten foot cane.

Frank, I hope you never have to have hip replacement because I wouldn't want Karma to give you what you deserve in that regard.

I spent a summer in Lindsay one year about 28 years ago. Lindsay wasn't much to see, but we went to the ocean every weekend. That was cool. We went to Hanford, Tulare, Porterville, Visalia and other little towns around there. My step-grandfather had relatives all over that area.

When you get into this kind of money sphere you can always find a good reason to obtain more. One very weathy entertainer who was very close to Tommy ( no I'm not refering to a member of Rush) who could afford to sit home on his laurels but still goes out Ion the road told me when I asked him why. He said Gail, the money I'm pulling in now is my monopoly money the fun money. I can have fun with this do a bit of gambeling, more risky business investment etc....This way if I go my original stack will remain so the family is well taken care of. There is not a peron on this board who would not like the opportunity at more cash period!

Gail

If they did as Rush now does to preserve Geddy's vocals two and a half to three weeks on and one off I believe perry could do it.

Lora is right. Steve did have a hip Injury. The problems started when the guys took a huge advance on the tour. Not sure if Steve did. They wanted to get out on the road, but Steve wanted to wait. The rest is history.

Oh a true story is absurd? The reporting of that Who tour was widely known at the time, and I have seen and as recenty as the present moment Genesis, Asia, The Police, Van Halen all these bands with all this supposed bad blood between the members seemed to find the peace pipe quite handy when having a rather LARGE check dangled in front of them. In the rock industry I have learned never to say never....

Wrong. I know for a fact that Steve's hip injury/surgery was very real. What is bullshit is that people continually put this shit out there when they have no clue. Well, I do have a clue so you can believe me or not. Not aiming this solely at you Frank but this crap pisses me off. Now go ahead and tell me that I am a SP cheerleader who lies for him.

If his hip injury was real and it stopped him from touring 10 years ago
What's stopping him now and ever since?
Just look at the TBF interview when he said you may just see us on tour soon
Man that poker face was saying I have 4 kings when in fact he had a pair of 3's
He may have had some kind of hip adjustment but that was not the reason why there was no TBF tour,
If it was all on the up and up Neil and the other 3 guys would have waited forever for Perry to return.
Its was the act of god excuse that got him out of touring ,
No doubt about it
If Im wrong Perry would have sang somewhere on this earth live .
Prove us wrong Steve I dare you.

I think you and Lora are both right. Sadly, whatever the truth is, the fans are the ones that really lost out. I literally want to cry thinking back at how excited, then disappointed, I was during the whole TBF era. In the end, I don't even care much about what really happened because it doesn't change the fact that the most anticipated tour of my life was aborted. I just hope that they can grace the stage together one last time, be it for a tour a show or a song. The fans deserve that much. NO band has fans better than Journey.
