I like the very last part where he's throwing the sticks up and catching them as he keeps playing. Not the hardest part of the clip but funny and you can tell he's having fun with it.

The angle's not the best for when he's playing the left stick with the right stick but its still amazing to see.

Pretty hard to tell that just from one video, isn't it? Other great dummers have had good things to say about Smith's abilities, including the legendary Neil Peart.

How the hell did they fire him? How did they fire Jeff? They aren't the smartest people in the world are they?

The special thing about Smith isn't just his technical skill. It's his creative inventiveness for rhythms. The man can play any kind of music. He's not just a pounder. He's an artist.

I saw Smith play two songs with Journey at the walk of fame after concert here in LA. He wiped the floor with both Dean and Dunbar that night and he was playing on Dean's drum kit. Even Dean himself literally fell over backwards in awe of what Smith did. His mouth was agape watching Smith tear it up. It was a small venue, I was so close I could spit and hit Augeri in the head so I could see Dean's expressions.

Smith defeated Neal Pert in a drum off years ago too. The event was legendary because no one thought 'the drummer from Journey' would stand a chance. How wrong they were.

They didn't fire Smith after the TPF album (if that's what you mean). Neal wanted Smith to stay on, but Smith said he wasn't interested in being in a Perryless Journey so Neal replaced him with Dean.

The original firing of Smith and Ross was by Perry on the ROR album. Perry wanted to change Journey's sound for some bizarre reason. I honestly believe Journey's sound is weaker without Smith on the drums.

Yeah, I meant in the ROR days. Morons, or Moron as it should be said. SP is/was a drummer, how the hell could he do that. He evidently dug SS's chops, he spent most of his non-singing time on stage right at Smith's kit. He did have his prickish side didn't he?

Aside from that, the Party's Over clip was excellent. SP is singing raw and sounds perfect. I'm not sure what year that was, but even there he had started to lose some range. Poor bastard. They toured that voice to death.

Nice clip. You hit it the nail on the head when you said Smitty's s an "artist". A drummer that isn't just banging away. There's subtlety and finesse which we don't always see due to the nature of rock music.

I thought he shined on TBF. The different songs gave him a chance to show his variety.

As for ROR, I think on the VH1 special, he said he refused to play along to a "click track". He took pride in his musicianship and saw it as disrepectful to NOT let him utilize his skills. I think he refused and walked away rather than actually being fired.

Peart's another of my favorites. I read he got into rock because he didn't feel he was talented enough for jazz drumming. That's pretty hard to believe as great as he is.

Maybe you can find some better. Jeff's is a teaching clip. I couldn't find anything better.
