THE STORM reunion

Postby Maro » Thu Aug 30, 2007 8:19 pm

What are the odds to see it happen? THE STORM reunion... Would you support it?

Kevin Chalfant is available after leaving Shooting Star and recording Journey covers album Fly 2 Fr33dom, has only two gigs scheduled for his solo band (Sep 29 2007 and Oct 6 2007 in South Bend)

Gregg Rolie is available, has only two gigs scheduled for his solo latin rock band (October 24 and February 23, 2008)

Josh Ramos is a bit busy with Ramos/Hugo project and Hardline's third album was in working limbo for years, but maybe he could find enough time for The Storm

Ross Valory is currently available while on Journey hiatus

Steve Smith has some drums clinic and Vital Information gigs in october and november scheduled, other than that he could be available.

Ron Wikso is playing in Gregg Rolie's band so he could be also available, if Smitty won't be interested...

Are you interested in seeing this brilliant band again? :D

As long as it doesn't interfere with Journey's plans then hell yeah I would be thrilled to hear a new "The storm" CD and tour!!!

Ironically I am listening to "The VU" CD as I spotted this thread.

I would much rather see Gregg and Kevin join (or re-join) Journey. But since that is not likely to happen, the Storm would be cool. :)

The Storm
American rock group, formed in the Bay Area of San Francisco during the early 1990s. The band featured three of Journey's former members (two of whom were founding members) - Gregg Rolie as keyboardist, Ross Valory on bass, Steve Smith on drums and Kevin Chalfant and Josh Ramos.

The Storm's debut album scored two Mainstream Rock radio hits with the #6 “I’ve Got a Lot to Learn About Love” and the #22 “Show Me the Way.”

They were successful, just not long lived. The 2nd album "Eye Of The Storm" is stellar. Hard to find but worth it.

I have both of The Storm albums, and second is far superior to first... trouble was with release timing...

First album was released only months before grunge explosion, and second was recorded right in the middle of grunge euphoria... with labels more interested in grunge it took two-three years to finally see the lights... during that time guys lost their enhusiasm and went into separate ways...

A little bit of The Storm magic was present in Kevin Chalfant/Josh Ramos project TWO FIRES (they released two albums), but Gregg Rolie was terribly missed there...

If Journey were brave and refused Steve Perry's comeback in 1996., continuing reunion with Kevin Chalfant, Gregg Rolie, Jonathan Cain, Neal Schon, Ross Valory, Steve Smith line-up, Journey would be still force on musical landscape, with bunch of decent albums released... Steve Perry would be also force on musical landscape, with bunch of his solo albums released...

Today, I don't think taking Kevin for lead vocalist would be a good idea... but it could work in 1996. or 1998.
Still, reunion of THE STORM would be a success, IMHO.

I doubt it would ever happen, these guys love music but they still need to make a profit on their projects, and I highly doubt there's a huge demand of a reunion of a band very few people probably remember.

Let me guess, it was at a Tower Records store?

As much as I liked the stores, the laidback atmosphere gave some emps the feeling they could do or say whatever. I guess that could apply to lots or record stores but I found it common at Tower.

Not bagging on all of the emps thought (I used to be one), there were a lot of cool people there too.

Sadly, yep.

Smitty's booked around the world with Vital Information so no way he'll leave that for the carnival and fair circuit.

iTunes has the second album. You can also order both at www.rossvalory.com. I don't know if they still do it but you used to be able to download it as soon as you bought it and still get a CD in the mail.

Haha, Ross: "the best average white bass player to ever play on the big stage". No wonder I never see any bass solo clips from him.

And this is the closest to an update on Journey's status as we're gonna get for a while.

Actually, I like the first album a little better, slightly more guitar oriented.

I would love to see Journey reform with the Chalfant, Schon, Cain, Rolie, Smith and Valory line-up.

You are wrong in so many ways it's not even funny!

Journey do have future plans. The Journey will continue. Just because you are so pissed that JSS is no longer with them doesn't mean that there aren't millions of people who are still interested in Journey.

Journey aren't going to be as massivley popular with who ever their new singer winds up being as they were back in the 80's, but then again they weren't going to be that popular with JSS either. The only way that they would possibly come close to their success of the 80's (and even then I still highly doubt it) would be if Steve Perry rejoined the band, and that's not going to happen.

But at the same time Journey are still going to have a great deal of success, and don't let your emotions fool you into thinking otherwise!

I don't know where you get this idea that Ross Valory sucks on bass? You always seem to say that Valory is average or even sucks on the bass. Ross is an above average bass player. He's not as great on the bass as Schon is on guitar or Smith is on drums, but he's still a damn good bass player.
