Three friends see this old TV advertised for £30, so they ask another friend to go and get it. They each give him £10. The friend goes to the store only to find the TV is now £25. So the shop gives him £5 change. He wonders what to do with the change and decides to give the friends £1 each back and he pockets the £2.

So the item cost the friends £9 each.

3 x 9 + 2 don’t make 30.....does it :?

Anyone heard this before because this fucker on holiday told it me over a few beers and 3 weeks later it’s still doing my head in :x

Yeah, this is an oldie. I can't remember the exact answer, but the point is you shouldn't deduct the odd £2 from the thirty. That is irrelevant as the price is now £25. You have to add it to the £25. The three friends have paid £27, which is £2 more than they needed to.

see now I saw it as he gave the other 3 guys 1 dollar each and kept 2 remeber there where four people total so 3 of them got 1 each and he kept 2.....only 3 people gave 10 each then he asked a different friend to go take it in..imo 8)

Each friend (3 of them) gave the guy $10 for a total of $30. He gets the TV for $25. There is $5 change to be divided up by the 3 people that paid...HOWEVER this guy gives each $1 back and pockets $2. 1+1+1+2=5 Pretty simple.

There is one thing I have to ask. If it is three friends wanting the tv, how are you going to divide a tv? Do they live together in the same house or do they have places of their own? That is something to think about....... Sorry Styxie, I am going to make your head hurt some more.......

Formula

(3x10)-25=5
5-(3x1)=2
