Top 5 Journey Songs With The Most Electrifying Vocal Moments

PostPosted: Sun Sep 09, 2007 12:42 pm
by StevePerry1986
Which 5 Journey songs (with Steve Perry as the lead singer) really push the envelope and deliver the most mesmerizing and passionate vocal moments? In other words, the exact moment where Steve Perry's voice is at its most electrifying in a particular song.

For me, my top 5 songs that fit that mold would be:

1. Mother, Father
2. Escape
3. Anytime
4. Too Late
5. Sweet And Simple

Also, if it weren't just Journey, I'd also add Steve's solo tunes "Go Away" and "Missing You".

Just going through Journey's discography and I can't seem to find the live version of Patiently from 1980. Could you send it to me?

It's a bootleg from a show in '80.

As far as studio recording are concerned, some of my favorite vocal performances are;

"Somethin' To Hide"
"Sweet and Simple"
"Lay It Down"
"Somewhere There's Hope" (Perry solo)
"Winds of March"
"Mother Father"
"One More Time" (Perry solo)
"Troubled Child"
"Homemade Love"

I could go on and on.

But I'll also add that I'm in agreement on the live version of "Patiently" from the Texas Depearture 1980 boot. Maybe the best vocal ever!

if we are going just Perry, how about Donna Please? I know at least one here agrees with me.

and FTLOSM the song.

but Journey ---hands down it's Sweet and Simple

with EDGE OF THE BLADE next.

Patiently. Lights/Stay Awhile from the Houston live dvd. the control that he has--even live-- is astounding.

5 picks

This is tough --- there are so many to choose from.

I would have to say:

Mother Father
Still They Ride
Anyway
Open Arms
When You Love a Woman
Separate Ways

Actually, he has such an amazing and powerful voice that every song has some electrifying moment.

Interesting how Mother Father is pretty much on everyone's list. The vocal treatment at the end of that song is simply impossible for anyone to do....Perry proved his uniqueness with that one part....no one will ever come close to even remotely sounding off like Perry did at the end of that song.

If I ever bump into someone that doubt's Perry's talent....I usually play them the end of that song. After they've scooped their jaw off the floor, they agree that Perry had no equal....

No one has mentioned "La Do Da"? Seriously?

In no particular order (because I couldn't pick a #1 if I tried):

Stay Awhile
Why Can't This Night...
La Do Da
Mother Father
Homemade Love

In no particular order

Still They Ride (any version - even the shower)

Any Way You Want It (from the Houston Show - the man sang part of it while jogging on a track on the outside of the stage - and that last breath before the final "Anywa-a-a-y" sheesh)

Mother/Father (what Frank said)

Open Arms (still grabs me - how many dozen years later and it is still like hearing it for the first time)

Faithfully - (sorry Cain, the song is really good - The Voice made it great)

Makes me tired just thinking about singing these five ..... cannot fathom what it took to do 20 or 30 of them 180 nights a year.

All INCREDIBLE songs!!!! 8) And yes, (Crazy)Dulce Lady, Donna Please is a great song. I mean...who else can say that they have a song specifically dedicated to them by SP himself!!!??

Still They Ride remains at the top of my most beloved Journey/Steve Perry songs. It's one of those songs that I can listen to, rewind, and replay over & over again because I just can't get enough. The performance on the Greatest Hits Live is my all-time favorite!!! Feeling That Way/Anytime, Patiently, and WCTNGOF are up there too!! 8)
