Not sure there is any relevance in comparing the two. Polar opposites in fact.

Yes; I understand that they are Polar Opposites.

I'm posting regarding how the public - outside of fan sites / message boards like this - can react like, "Oh my GOD! He doesn't sing HIGH anymore!!"

Seriously ~ if people abandoned the Steve Perry-era Journey in 1982, then the "high voice" thing is what they'd be expecting. But, we know 99% for sure that cannot happen now.

Nothing to do with one another!!! Spears had no business dressing like that. Couldn't even lip sync her song right and failed miserably at her routine.
Perry's voice is Perry's voice. He's a pro, unlike Spears who was a packaged product.

I do think that's exactly what keeps SP off the stage. He knows he has hard core fans that will appreciate anything he does, but he's afraid of the casual fan that will expect him to sound like he did in the early 80's. He's afraid of flying tomatoes. He would have every right to feel that way too. Look at how it went for Lou Gramm.

If I were SP I'd be more worried about the housewives fawning over me and the people trolling the internet in my name.
