The 60s-70s Flower Power song thread...

I just caught the Time Life paid 1/2 hr. commercial for the Flower Power music (hosted by Peter Fonda "Easy Rider", no less)...I love this music - I grew up on it & even 'tho I was a kid I hung out with the teen-agers & consider it my teen time. So since we had the 80s thread this one is for the great songs of the 60s-early 70s. So share a youtube find here. By the way, they showed a clip of Santana on the commercial with Gregg singing & a few seconds of Neal as a teen-ager.

So here is the first one - these guys are totally high! :D : http://youtube.com/watch?v=Iv6GhRDERsk

I remember being very small and going to the love-ins.
Yes, Alabama and Mississippi had love-ins.
I had my tamberine..The kids would dance around the campfire sing and dance.
The adults would have their guitars and make shift drums.
It was so much fun!!! :D
I was mostly influenced by the BEATLES, and Janis Joplin!

Sallee, that song always reminds me of the book, "Go Ask Alice" - the diary of the runaway girl tripping on LSD. I didn't even know it was also related to Alice in Wonderland until I started watching VH1 Classics the last couple of years. :D
San Francisco was the place back then for the music...and, the hippies. :)

We wore love beads, fringe on our clothes, peace signs...the poster "make love, not war" was hanging in our bedroom...one of our hippie boarders convinced my mom to smoke a joint...she said it didn't do anything...lol.

The music seemed cooler than when I see these crazy videos...such as: http://youtube.com/watch?v=XSV1URdtgTc

I remember that book, tammy, and the movie as well.

I lived across the bay from San Francisco, and also in Berkeley, were hippies too. They were everywhere!

Now here is a song that was for its time, the longest song. Here the video is in two parts.........

I love a lot of the music from this era. I was just a kid but had six older sisters who got me into this music.

One of my favorite bands ever:

I met the guy (P.F. Sloan) who wrote Eve of Destruction a few weeks ago, that's what made me think of this one.

OMG, I love this thread. Image These songs are the soundtrack of my teenage years. I love them all. Image

Of course the Beatles, Moody Blues, the Animals, Manfred Mann, Cream, basically all of the British bands of the time except the Stones were my favorites but here's one of my favorite songs of the time from an American band.

Oh hell yeah, loved these guys. Their harmony was incredible. They look like they'r lip synching in that video(especially Cory  ), but I saw them live in Omaha in 1968 and they sounded just as good live as they did on the records. What happened to Chuck is so sad.

I was sad to hear what happened to Chuck Negron. But he did get out of that sad time, and what I found sad is that one of his sons ended up on A & E's Intervention. :(

On brighter side, I have heard Chuck is out singing again. :D

Yup, definitely lipping in that one. Even they're laughing about it!

I heard that he cleaned up, but I also thought I heard that he'd fallen into it again. I didn't know about his son. What a terrible personal legacy for such a great singer. :(

Oh yes, I remember those and I especially like Incense and Peppermints.

I noticed while listening to some of these oldies that I haven't heard for a while that I'm hearing more of the meanings to the songs now. Back then I just heard the sound of them and the surface of the lyrics. Now I hear the meaning of the lyrics. For example, Incense and Peppermints isn't just about covering up the smell of beer and marajuana.
