Nominees were announced Thursday (September 27th) for possible induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame early next year. The list of nominees includes Madonna, the Beastie Boys, songwriter Leonard Cohen, John Mellencamp, Afrika Bambaata, Chic, surf-rock pioneers the Ventures, disco legend Donna Summer, and Sixties group the Dave Clark Five.
Members of the Rock Hall will now vote on the finalists, and it is likely that five inductees will be announced around the beginning of the year. The annual induction ceremony is usually held in March.

Yeah, not even one of those deserve to be there. Especially when you consider the huge number of bands and artists that do.

Alice Cooper
Deep Purple
Kiss
The Moody Blues
Rush
Yes
But no we must induct disco singers, rappers, folk music, etc. Utter rubbish.
p.s. I did not mention Journey on purpose. Induct Steve Perry by himself

Disagree. John Mellencamp deserves it.

Why don't you enlighten us as to why he belongs in the R&R HOF?

Why are you asking me? I think it's ridiculous that he's been nominated.

I agree Mellencamp should be in there, he's got some great stuff. I have no freaking idea who Afrika Bambaata even is. Dave Clark Five... maybe. They deserve it just because Jann Werner screwed them out of it last year. I think Madonna is great, I've loved her since day one, however being in the ROCK and ROLL hall of fame? Questionable.

I believe the Afrika group is the musicians who backed up Paul Simon on his Grammy winners, Graceland and Rythmn of the Saints.
Of course they also did other stuff

Fair enough - given how often I am sarcastic - but in this case no. One of my all time pet hates is people - especially attractive girls - who say what a 'genius' and an 'intellectual' and - worst of all - what a 'poet' he is.
The guy's lyrics make me tense up with irritation and that monotone voice does them no favours either. And he hasn't had a record out that has made an impression since 1974...and oh...I could bang on all night about how useless Cohen is.
By the way...Afrika Bambaata recorded a song in the very early 80s which was supposedly hugely influential on the development of hip-hop so I guess he's been nominated because he's perceived as a 'pioneer'...but I have to say...this is an absurd decision as well given the number of legendary and multi-album rock and roll bands who keep getting ignored.

Yes, their selections reek of "look how smart we are." Induct the fucking artists that deserve it, you bunch of geeks.

The only person I see on the list that deserves it is John Mellencamp.
I guess they are not understanding that the name of the hall of fame is "ROCK-N-ROLL"
AR's list is more like it.

I like Mellencamp and I think he deserves to be in and a case could be made for Madonna but the rest of the people on that list are ridiculous picks.

Madonna absolutely deserves to be there. She is number one female entertainer of all time.
By the way, Journey does deserve to be there on their merit alone. Forget the bullshit happening now. They were too good for too long to not be there, and you all know it.

There is a huge difference in rock stations from 1984 vs 2007. Back then Madonna and AC/DC were played on the same station.

But that was Top 40, they even played Oak Ridge Boys and Dolly Parton.

Damn, your stations SUCKED then! NEVER heard a country song on a Top 40 or a Rock station back in the day. I think those were your crack days.

Does being the number one female
ENTERTAINER of all time merit the
Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame though?
