Where Are You Now? Hugo's fans.

Postby Maro » Wed Oct 03, 2007 4:42 am

Just listening to Where Are You Now from Valentine CD... It took some time to get it, but now I have original CD, not burned copy... :D

Anyone else likes Hugo's work (original stuff, I don't mean his tribute band here)?

The debut Valentine album is pretty good (thanks to Aaron). Several good tracks there.

I think "Fire in the Night" is absolutely fantastic. I am only into Hugo as a solo/original artist, think he's eerie in the tribute band, though!

absolutely, much better than follower, Open Skyz album...

I've read somewhere that there was second Valentine record that was shelved by their record label... I hope they'll sell or licence the masters to some reissue label to release it...

The only song I know of Hugo's is Valentine's "No Way" because of the music video on yootoob. He looks like he just watched Perry in the "Anyway You Want It" vid and said I want to look like that. 8)

I've heard a few clips of Hugo's other solo stuff. I like his voice when he's singing his own thing. I can't quite wrap my mind around him singing Journey though. His resemblance is just too creepy for me.

If you ask me, he'd be better if he stops with tribute thing and concentrate on his OWN career.
I don't care if he looks or sounds like Steve Perry-clone, he made couple of damn good albums which are always overshadowed with this Steve Perry-wannabe crap.

I agree, he would be damn good in his own right. I like him a lot. Excellent voice, I think.

However, the "boys" want a Steve Perry-wannabe clone, and Hugo's their man. I don't get it. He's the one they should be calling. I bet he'd have the "magic" that Fro is looking for. He can just pretend he has Perry back.

He might be ok for Jon, but somehow I think Neal would sabotage every choice they would pick, regardless who it is, because deep down Neal doesn't want anyone else singing in Journey beside Steve Perry, who's determined to never return in Journey in this lifetime.

Agreed, however, Neal should have thought about that in 1998, but.......oh yeah, he doesn't think about long run. And for Neal to grovel, like he should be doing to Perry? Not in a million. What a sad state of affairs.

Yes, Hugo's work is fantastic. He deserves more recognition that he gets.

Since we're talking about Hugo, can anybody tell me his last name?

It's not important other than I'm ridiculously curious and it's driving me crazy!!!

Did he ever have a last name or was he simply "Hugo" from day one?

Correct bro ...

And for those not familiar with Hugo, spend a little time here:

http://www.hugotunes.com/about_us.html

There are good cuts from his own cd's that will give you a flavor. Each page has a different song playing. The current news page has "Tell It To My Heart" playing. That song is the reason I picked up playing guitar. That overdriven rhythm guitar gives me wood every time I listen. Schon could take a few notes here. Hugo's vocals aren't bad either.

L8r,

Aaron

Open Skyz is my favorite ( thanks Eric  )

Saw Hugo Saturday with Evolution and this time he didn't freak me out! Seriously, they were all great and it made for an awesome evening of great friends and music.

But I woul dmuch rather see him break out and do a few shows of his own music. :)

I wish Hugo's band did some gigs on the West Coast. I would LOVE to see him.

He sings on two tracks on the Street Talk CD. I thinks his two songs are solid, but the best songs on that CD are not sung by him, they're sung by Goran Edman (?) instead. Buy this CD for Hugo, made me a fan of Street Talk.

from rockdetector.com:

"The band cut a second album and had the non album song 'Keep The Faith' included as part of the movie soundtrack 'Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead'.

Switching to the RCA label VALENTINE set about recording a third album with producer Richie Zito. Amongst those tracks would be a cover version of SUPERTRAMP's 'Give A Little Bit'. Internal problems resulted in the departure of Neil Christopher. This loss of a key member had further ramifications on the band title and what was intended to be a third VALENTINE opus emerged credited to OPEN SKYZ."

This is what I was reffering before... Does anyone knows anything about this second (unreleased) Valentine album?

I seen the same thing a while back and thought it was BS. I'd pay good money to get a copy of the second Valentine cd if it exists.

I think I've read somewhere else about second album being recorded for Giant/Warner who dropped them before releasing it because of emerging of grunge. They moved on RCA who wanted them to "soften" their sound and forced them to use outside writers... which lead to their losing of original drummer and name change to Open Skyz.

Thanks, man.

Actually, none of Hugo's cd's are available on his site, because it's still under construction.
There are only pictures of Valentine and Open Skyz; pictures, short reviews and songlists for his three solo albums and soundsamples from his last solo album Fire In The Night.

Most of his cd's are hard to get, but with some luck, in time you could grab them on different cd stores on net.
It could be sooner if you're willing to pay big bucks for them, which I'm not, so I'm still waiting for my luck with Fire In The Night (I have it on mp3, though, thanks to Susie)... :)
