Same here -- I may not like their decisions sometimes, but I only quit supporting a band when they quit putting out good music, plain and simple. Journey is one of my faves, and I'll buy everything they put out, and see every show I can attend, unless they just quit putting out quality stuff.

I wasn't that into "Red 13" -- maybe it was experimental, but I also thought the production was horrible. I also hated the production on "Arrival" -- very bassy, and sounded like I'd blown my speakers or something. Just kinda a come-down from previous efforts, though I recognize they may not wish to keep that highly-polished sound that had become their hallmark for all those years previously. Times change, ya know. Still great songs on "Arrival", but some of them sounded too close to previous songs, it was almost like they were trying to hard to say, "Look, we're still Journey! Recognize this?"

I really enjoyed "Generations"...

The thing I believe us fans have to get over is any illusions about these guys created from the music. You know, they write smarter, more thoughtful music, so it lends to the silly concept that they are more thoughtful, sensitive people. They are just humans, and some of them may not be that good of humans at that... haha! But I love the music, that's all... They will never lose their place with me as one of the best and most influential melodic rock bands of all time.

I'll go to a Journey concert if they are opening for the Jeff Scott Soto band. I'll probably miss the first act though.

Someone made a good point in another post the other day.

So many naysayers but instead of really giving up AND movin' on down to the JSS forum, these "ex-Journey fans" can't give it up.

I notice no one's been able to refute my point that what happened to Ross and Smitty was equal to or worse than what happened to Jeff.

It's not "rebuilding" as you say. Due to mob mentaility its not popular here to come out and say you'll still support Journey. Your post is a perfect example.

Instead of refuting my points, you resort to being snarky. The JSS forum misses you.

The thing about Ross and Smitty is that at least the fans had the consolation that SP, Jon and Neal were still in the band. Now, there isn't even a lead singer. Jon and Neal? They're a fucking joke. I still post here because there's a great mix of people here that keep it interesting.

There are two possible responses to that. One is the obvious, that this technically isn't strictly a Journey forum anymore. It was renamed the MRJF for a reason. The other response is that even if it was still a Journey forum, disgruntled Journey fans would still have as much right to their opinions as those who still want to hang on to Steve Perry's coat tails with them.

That to me is as bad or worse than what went down this past year.

Did it harm the ROR tour?

Not one cent.

Come on...of course it did. Have you listened to those concerts? Comparatively speaking, they are the weakest of the Steve Perry era tours. Steve was out to lunch that tour, and he was done with his voice (pt. 1). Mike Baird actually sounded ok, playing Larrie Londin' parts, but no comparison for anything Steve Smith touched. none...

I'll agree with you though, Smitty and Ross's departure was the first (and to date, the) worst overall band decision. Perry owns that one, outright.

I wasn't on the net when I found out Perry was out. I wasn't on the net when I saw the Free Per View with Augeri and knew he just didn't cut it. I knew before I was ever online that Journey without Perry was a pathetic thing.

I would still have known about Jeremey even if I hadn't been on the net because his band was local to me.

However, I may never have known about Jeff if I hadn't been on the net and I may not have known what complete morons Frig and Fro are. I'm glad I've been enlightened.

There is a difference between learning the latest news about a band's lineup and thinking you know all the dirt that went down simply because you read it on the net.... I respectfully disagree with you about one thing. I think Steve A. did just fine. 8)

That might be because you're in awe of Schon instead of focused on the lyrics and the voice that's delivering them. It's all about the vocals for me.

That appears to be the only gig Journey is getting these days...

I just finally met the Wombat in person yesterday and am going to avoid giving him grief (for awhile). So use your imaginations and imagine a hideously gross, disgusting and inappropriate picture posted in this message below.

Well, after this last fiasco, I won't give Journey one red cent. And if you think a new cd is coming out, I think you are wrong there. I believe the songwriting well is dried up.

And I will still play my Journey cd's with Perry and JSS.

Maybe some come here to get the message across to Nit and Wit that we don't like pretense, don't like deception, are fed up with their lies, and will never spend another penny on them for any reason? Money seems to be the only motivator in their lives, so why not?

Spandex? No, that was Randy. Hairspray? Man, what an imagination.

Facts are exactly what I put down. No one cried over this stuff happening back then but now the world's coming to an end. Right? Whatever.

From snarks to personal attacks. What an advanced intelligence you must be. Ever heard of the return key?

If you choose to follow me, it'll be fun pointing out your stupidity. You make it too easy.

I too am still a fan. It is about the music to me. If I like it, I will listen and go to the shows.

As far as the move on, and/or, move on down to the JSS forum, it is a waste of time to make a comment on this. It has been tried and failed. There are more haters than fans here, and that is just the way it goes. The Mob Rules. Just the reality of the situation.

One comment I will make, if any one thinks the JSS band is going to have a more succesful tour or play to bigger crowds at bigger venues that Journey will on their next tour, you are nutz. I like JSS very much and think he is indeed a very talented individual. But the man has been in this business a long time and if he hasn't reached the pinnacle by now, I don't think he will with the musical climate being the way it is in the U.S. today. Would I love to be proved wrong on this? Yes. Not only because I like Jeff, but it would also mark a return of popularity for the style of music I like best. But it just ain't going to happen. Reality check.

I understand your point. The musical climate in the U.S. sucks, but at least Jeff has adjusted his new material to it to some degree. Would I prefer him to record a bunch of songs reminicent of Talisman/Soul Sirkus/Journey and really make a retro melodic hard rock album? Of course, but that's probably ill advised and what he is recording has potential and shows where he is at right now.

Just wish him success on whatever level that means, and make no mistake he will be successful. Now on what barometer you may set that on I don't know. From what I can see Jeff is very grounded and knows his status very well in the U.S. He has extra noteriety here now though and a real chance to build on it in some way.

The one thing I can say is that the set he played in South Bend looked better than most arena acts I've seen. And I've seen absolutely everyone you can imagine. I don't get caught up in what happens though. Jeff has a much better chance of making a contemporary song that gets on the radio than Journey does now. No two ways about it. Hopefully he can get noticed. All I know is that I'll go see him in whatever he does and that's all I can do.
